All I have left is a heavy sigh, and a slow methodical facepalm.

As a rule, I usually loathe remakes. They are further proof that Hollywood is just being lazy and refuses to try anything new.

However, I do understand the need for good remakes. A good remake is one that takes the basic premise as the original but goes in a different direction with it. A perfect example is The Thing.

This remake of Footloose though, looks like a typical copy/paste cashgrab. They changed the music. Whoop-dee-do. So they made it for the Glee and High School Musical crowd.

Then… don't… see it?

If there's money to make a studio will try to make it. Business.

I don't plan to see it, but I thought it was worth bringing up to discuss, since I am a fan of the original.  I know its business decision, admittedly its probably a smart one too considering the popularity of the music/teenage genre right now. However, if it's an awful remake, but still makes money that means the studios will make more movies similar to it and push aside projects I would like to see. And since it has MTV attached to it, I have no hope of it being anything resembling quality.

Gee, remaking a teen movie so that modern teens will see it. How... normal. Naturally, usually when they do this they use a different name figuring teens won't have heard of the earlier version anyways.
(I recall the local review of Top Gun, back in those pre-video days, that commented that yes it stole from every movie out there, but kids hadn't seen those movies yet)
