I used to listen to DIF at work. It was the only way to focus, get anything done and retain my sanity.
Welcome to the forum, Lamer!
Oh, yeah, welcome Lamer. You were at the live show on Sunday, am I right? Anyway, hope you have fun, here.
You'll be the only one!
(I jest, of course )
Thanks for the warm welcome guys

I'm pretty sure I wasn't. Unless there's some time travelling going on o_0
Fair enough, my mistake I was half asleep at the live show and can barely remember any of it, it was so late
Welcome anyway
There are only few movies I have watched while listening. For me, it's while I sit on my computer or driving. Nice way to pass some time.
Sometimes I am listening for some casts and you guys manage to say something funny, I smile like an idiot while walking on the street. Not cool. But cool anyway.
People like people who smile at people.
I have trouble with insomnia, and I listen to DiF to relax. And it actually helps!
You guys are like drugs!
Audio-only... commuting between London and Sydney, where total door to door travel time is about 24 hours (and frustratingly hasn't changed for 40 years).
Trouble is I've now exhausted all the commentaries to the movies I've seen, so now I gotta see schlock like Cowboys & Aliens just so I can listen to the DIF commentary.
I found DIF looking for an alternative movie commentary to some movie or other, I was surprised at how few there seem to be out there, but have never once listened to the podcast while watching a movie. I appreciate the fact that the podcasters are watching the movie though - it imposes a discipline that simply talking about it doesn't give.
Should we point him to Zarban's site, or let him live in ignorant bliss?
I ain't skurred.
DIF has done 150+ commentaries. At best on the House of Commentaries he'll find twice that again that he likes as much.
EDIT: Hey, what happened to signatures?

Ah-ha... Somehow I had missed that... Thanks for the tip!
If I have the movie available, I'll usually make an effort to listen to DIF along with the movie. Crack a few beers, and enjoy! But I work 12 hour nights, so it really helps to pass the long hours and keep me awake. Plus It's fuckin hilarious! And If It's a movie I know really well, then not watching along doesn't effect the show for me.
The NTSC/PAL frame rate difference should be the same for all "properly" converted (i.e. sped up) movies. When there's no PAL version of the DIF commentary available (my DVDs are PAL), I simply use Audacity's Effect -> Change Tempo function (described here). The "Percent Change" parameter should be set to 4.27083. I never had any sync issues with this method.
While I'm at it, I also like to compress the dynamics a bit with Effect -> Compressor.
Some (pretty rare) DVD movies were converted to PAL without the speedup (by video converter boxes that blend individual fields, which looks pretty horrible). The NTSC commentary should be in sync with them (no conversion required).

In my case, it doesn't cure insomnia... but it's the best way to spend the extra time at night
