I kinda hope they make a Chateaux Picard wine to buy

The title character is the most horrible shithead in Star Trek's history. I can't believe for a second that his guy is a Stafleet science officer. A guy with no ethics, no decency and no discipline wouldn't be allowed to wear this uniform. We've had our fair share of troubled crewmen, Reg Barclay being the most obvious example. But Barclay wasn't trying to be a dick (in fact, other officers were being dicks to him), he was just socially awkward. There was Wesley Crusher, who sometimes ventured into "insufferable genius" territory by being smarter than adult officers, but the writers had managed to do a few interesting things with him. Neelix's quirkiness could be annoying at times, but he was a very decent guy. Mortimer Harren, the antisocial mathematician who never intended to stay in Starfleet and got stuck on the Voyager by accident, was still able to risk his life for the crew. Edward Larkin, on the other hand, doesn't seem to have any redeeming features. I know he's supposed to be a villain, but Star Trek had always tried to make its villains complex and interesting; characters like Q and Gul Dukat are very fun to watch, civilizations like the Borg and the Dominion represent some intriguing concepts and even the Kazon are an attempt at social commentary (an attempt that mostly failed, but still...).

The writers have portrayed a Starfleet scientist as a complete shithead just for the sake of a "comedic episode". It just doesn't work within the Star Trek I've come to know and love.
