Topic: An experimental idea I was thinking about!

Ok, so some time back I was watching Spider Man 3 in horror as the film got worse with every scene. I so applaud that I thought that I could have easily written a better story. So I did. I thought my version felt much more true to the characters and much more audience engaging.

The point is that I had a lot of fun doing a re wright for SM3. At the same time however I thought it would be just as fun to read other peoples (who are proabably better writers then me) re wrights of the same movie and others that are universally scene as bad movies (like Dorkman's prequel re wrights.)

So I was wondering if there is a website where people can post their re wrights of like a selected movie every month or so. I  truly think it would be fun for people to read and push each other to wright smarter and creative.

Thoughts?

Re: An experimental idea I was thinking about!

Okay, I'm trying not to snark but it has to be said and somebody is going to: it's spelled "write." You spell "writer" correctly, and "written," but not "write" somehow, and it makes me feel tweaky. And we're talking about writing, so spelling is, like, a thing.

Anyway, I don't know of any specific site where people post alternate versions of movies/their sequels, though I'm sure fanfiction.net has a number of stories to that effect and if you can find early drafts of some movies they can often serve as totally alternate versions.

Re: An experimental idea I was thinking about!

Im sorry. Spelling has never been my thing, and probably never will be. I get that kind of reaction a lot from people wondering why everything is spelled wrong in whatever I'm writing about, which makes me quite stupid. I will say however I was born with a learning disability so I english in general I have trouble with.

Re: An experimental idea I was thinking about!

Dorkman wasn't calling you stupid but it is a bit strange that you spell one word totally wrong yet spell it's variants correctly. You even spelled 'writing' corectly in your response to Dorkman.

Wright
Writer
Written
Writing

You see the difference? You are not stupid, don't ever think that, Dorkman was just pointing out how strange the mistake is, just in his own Dorkman way big_smile

If he didn't say it, someone else would.....probably me.

Re: An experimental idea I was thinking about!

Even professional writers get mixed up about these things. On more than one occasion, Stephen Colbert has said "copywritten" on national television when referring to copyrights.

English spelling is an appalling and embarrassing mess. Other languages are updated from time to time, but Americans and Britons are hell-bent on pickling English in formaldehyde.

Warning: I'm probably rewriting this post as you read it.
