How about a Coen Bros. movie?

My vote goes for The Big Lebowski.

I think they should save Big Lebowski for the off chance that Bertocci ever visits LA.

I vote for True Lies. Again.

Re: Suggest a movie!

Safety Not Guaranteed would be good. I liked it even outside of the funny moments, but the Jake Johnson subplot seems to be painting a mustache on the metaphorical sci-fi main plot. It would be as if a Star Trek episode about one alien race oppressing another also contained a Caucasian Earthling oppressing an Asian Earthling.

Re: Suggest a movie!

Mr Nobody 2009 - the extended edition. You guys can get all 'film school' about it, like Mulholland Drive and The Fountain. And it's never been done, not even by the director.

Lots of symbolism to decode. The production design is insane - hundreds of camera set-ups. The cinematography is creative, the direction is bold, the VFX are striking, and Jared Leto adds to his solid filmography that includes Fight Club, Requiem for a Dream, and Lord of War.

not long to go now...

Harry Potter ALL OF THEM!!! What'd that be, like 20 hours? NBD  wink

EDIT: Okay, I hadn't realized you guys already did the first one. My bad. I'll have to check it out.

Just relistened to the Matrix commentaries and I am sure it has come up before but would love to hear the guys talk about "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" and Sean Connery's role in the movie.

Speaking of which... It would be nice to hear Down In Front's perspective on the Narnia movies (Hairy Pothead's "moral substitute"). I'd love to hear a bunch of atheists rip them apart big_smile

I've only seen the first film. I've never really gotten over how massively twisted the ending of that series is.

Personally, I think the first one is the best in the movies they made. The rest were kind of meh  hmm

Having never read the books, I just read a synopsis of The Last Battle and the first thing that came to my mind? 'Fuuuuuuuuuck offfffff!'

Re: Suggest a movie!

Seriously, this is how it plays out:

SPOILER Show
KIDS: Aslan, we don't want to be sent home like we are at the end of every adventure.

ASLAN: Don't worry, instead of transporting you here magically like the business with the wardrobe, I did it this time by killing you all in a train crash. You're all staying forever!

KIDS: YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!

Re: Suggest a movie!

Even as someone who believes as C.S. Lewis did the ending of the "The Last Battle" left me feeling...odd. I guess I wanted a better conclusion. Though, I personally prefer "A Horse and His Boy" out of all the stories.

You forgot to mention they get to hang out with everyone else from their adventures.

You forgot the part where

SPOILER Show
All the non-believers (who I believe happen to be of middle-eastern descent if I recall) get horribly killed in an apocalypse while all the good Aslan-worshipping creatures get to go to Narnia heaven

Not all. At least one is seen on the other side. Their descent had nothing to do with it, though it is a common argument against Lewis' work

And what's even worse, those Middle-Eastern people (the Calormen) are "unwashed" and smell of garlic and onions. It's an old racist stereotype of Jews and other Middle-Eastern people that still persists in some parts of the world (even in Europe).

And what's with all this loathing of vegetarians, teetotallers, non-smokers and scientists? big_smile

Its interesting because both sides share the same opinion of each other. Too bad Lewis didn't take more time to explore both cultures.
By the way, I also hate garlic and onions, as well as teetotallers. I'm ok with scientist wink

It is ridiculous. If I read that as a kid, I wouldn't have batted an eyelid but if I read it now, that would have irked me somewhat.

Re: Suggest a movie!

I haven't read the Last Battle in a loooong time, but even still the memory of it haunts me.

The entire series is like alright, this is kinda cool, you can stop cramming the metaphors down my throat, but alright. And then Last battle just loses it's fucking mind in every aspect of itself.

Ya, I remember being completely insulted by it when I read it as a teenager, to where it made me retroactively dislike the series somewhat, even though there's some solid books there.

Re: Suggest a movie!

Back on topic.

I'm rewatching Rango for the umpteenth time atm. I can never get over how freaking good it is. I think it could definitely make for an interesting DiF. It would make an interesting counterpoint to the Disney/Pixar/Dreamworks thing that is so prevalent these days at the very least (And seeing as those are the only animated movies you've done thus far...hint hint, nudge nudge).

Yeah, Rango is a good idea. I think Trey really liked it. I remember having some sort of a problem with it.

I only watched half of Rango. I didn't hate it, I didn't love it but I stopped it to do something else and just haven't went back to it yet. *shrug*
