That's right you maggots, you better fix that recto-cranial impaction of yours, and either grab a gun and stand a post, or get to work on some CG bullshit that'll scare the bejezzus out of the enemy! I want that concept artwork on my desk in 30 minutes! DO YOU GET ME???

Seriously though, in light of the fact that I haven't done show notes in, like, forever, maybe it is time for a change, and "DIF Commander" has a nice ring to it.

I could prance around saying things like,

"My Momma could type faster than that. AND SHE LOST BOTH HANDS IN THE WAR!"

"How's THIS for Modern Warfare you limp wristed pathetic excuse for a human being!  If that render isn't finished in the next FIVE MINUTES, I'm gonna LET the zombies breach that barricade, and guess what? YOUR FAT ASS WILL BE ZOMIE FOOD!"

"You keep running your purdy little mouth like that, and you won't be able to run a server, let alone run for your life!"

"I want everyone's Zombie Plan on my desk by 1700 tomorrow, AND DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT TELLING ME YOU DON'T HAVE ONE!"

"Who were you expecting, numb nuts? Captain fucking America? He's dead! He died...IN THE WAR!"

Also, great episode guys.  What really worries me is that I came out of Iron Man 2 with a similar feeling of "Fuck yeah, that was fun!" only to realize after the fact that it really wasn't very good.  I look forward to the eventual commentary.

On Fury.

Maybe we're supposed to like him, in the same way we kinda like that one special kid in school who just kinda sits in the back of the class.

Cause I mean really, you gotta wonder about a guy who sees a plane with an armed nuke taking off and decides that the best plan of action will be to shoot at it with a rocket launcher. Oh yeah, that's totally not something that can destroy an entire alien base ship, hovering about 3 meters off the flight deck, while you shoot at it with a high explosive.

Also...this makes me happy.

Maybe we could start a new thread for this, but..... when you say :

Matt Vayda wrote:

"I want everyone's Zombie Plan on my desk by 1700 tomorrow, AND DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT TELLING ME YOU DON'T HAVE ONE!"

..... My answer is this:
Couldn't we (group of survivors) just swing by a gun shop, load up... and then, just take up residence in a Home Depot, or a Lowe's ?
You know ? You pretty much have everything you need, except for the food. The sodas and waters in the vending machines are only going to last so long. And you could kidnap the guy who parks his hot dog/hamburger wagon in front of the home improvement store. Live off of that food for a few weeks (maybe) ...

Any other thoughts ?!

Matt as Commander of DIF would probably say something like this:

On to the Avengers and the chat:
First of all, great chat and I enjoyed everyone's perspectives about the various milieu that Whedon had to wade through in order to somehow bring this together. It gives a whole new appreciation for the amount of craziness that goes in to movie making. As Teague said, sit down and make Avengers-Go! Its pure insanity, I tell you, yet the movie worked.

I am surprised that no one commented on the music though. Personally, I though the score was amazing, enjoyed the main theme, and overall sound of the movie. Though, besides the main theme, the song going with the first half of the credits is probably my favorite smile

God loves you!

Re: #31 - Chat: The Avengers

Maybe I'm just weird, but I don't remember music when I come out of a movie. Like ever. The closest was maybe the beat in 2009 Star Trek going over the title after the Kelvin blows. But unless I actively seek out the score afterwards I could not tell you a thing about the music in X movie.

I do,I love scores, I often find good score can enhance my enjoyment of a movie. Many people don't notice it, though, my sister says I'm a freak big_smile

A lot of action movie these days have basically the same score. Silvestri's score to The Avengers is good, but nothing special, it has been a while since I've fell in love with a new score.  I do like the Soundgarden song.

My wife and I both enjoy good music and orchestral pieces so I tend to have an ear for those things. I think I am a bit of a freak to, but I have been noticing a trend towards more strings and less horns in the scores of movies of late or am I crazy.

And thanks, Matt, for the link. That song has been stuck in my head now...not a bad thing big_smile

There have been a few great scores that you're bound to have remembered, but for the most part they are pretty forgetable in 90% of movies. Star Wars (Williams) and Lord of the Rings (Shore) have been scores I've noticed and remembered the most, as well as Alexander (Vangelis), which is one of the best things about that movie. The main scores of Superman and Indiana Jones (Williams) are really great and powerful (and hard to forget) as well. And I find I remember fondly the Star Trek orchestral openings (DS9 and Voyager especially) or the Band of Brothers opening.

But otherwise they do tend to blur together for me. I couldn't really tell you what the scores for Iron Man, Captain America and Thor were for instance, or Clash of the Titans, Transformers etc.

I really don't understand that image. Are we supposed to believe that the way the male Avengers are posed is completely unsexual?

Apparently when anyone "poses like a female" they turn into nickelodeon cartoons. Who knew?

Noooooooo. Really?

I never would have guessed that men and women are sexualized differently. When did this happen?

The primary function of their poses are not to "look sexy." Their poses actually make some form of combat sense, as opposed to Black Widow, who is more concerned with twisting her spine to show us her butt than with actually preparing for a fight.

EDIT: Alright, their poses don't really make "combat sense" (why would Captain America put his shield above him instead of between him and the enemy?), but no, they're not actively sexualized in the same way Black Widow is, as that image is meant to demonstrate. They're at least FACING the enemy.

Remebered a couple things,

First off, props to Black Widow for actually out psyching the god of trickery and mischeif. I mean....damn girl.

Secondly, props to Joss for not doing the mushy last minute I love you between Tony and Pepper.

Thats really all I had.

Ya know, I don't get this either. Yes, Scarlett Johansson is a beautiful woman and that fact is well and prominently displayed. But there is a knee jerk feminism implied in that cartoon that's kind of ridiculous. Are we objectifying Scarlett Johansson and putting her in outfits and poses that make it easier for us to fantasize having sex with her? Yeeesss.

Are we somehow not doing that with the guys? Cause we kinda are. It's just that the way men sexualize women and the way women sexualize men are different, thus different emphases and different poses. And are we really going to make an argument about there being some sexist double standard when there are FIVE different flavors of beefcake for the ladies to drool over versus Johansson's sumptuous ass?

Re: #31 - Chat: The Avengers

My biggest objection to that picture is the fact that Hawkeye is wearing sunglasses. He's an archer. Wouldn't those, um, obscure his vision slightly? Unless they're high-tech enhanced sunglasses, but those kind of defeat the purpose of having him in the group at all. Because if anyone can wear the sunglasses-
