IT IS PERFECT.
Did I miss something, or did he not announce ahead of time when it would be released?
I don't think he did. I just happened upon this post on /Film by accident.
Well, they've been getting less funny and less seemingly revolutionary as time goes on. Funny is subjective, I guess, and revolutionary is largely due to him trying not to repeat himself but there being only a finite number of things you can say about the way a movie should be made. (lol dif lol) That said, I liked it. My preference for them is in chronological order, but I'm quite glad this one wasn't filled with the subplot of Plinkett's victim.
I'll be honest; I don't quite get why it's as 'popular' as it is.
I've only watched bits and pieces of it, so I'm gonna have to sit down and watch all of it at some point, but I don't think it's that funny. I'd probably like it more if it was all insight and no 'funny voice'.
That's just me though.
(me not hating the prequels is probably also part of it, but let's not get into that)

wait thats
oh that probably seemed narcissistic huh
I liked it, i found it entertaining. Good for him.
A lot more bathroom humour this time. And his victim didn't work for me. In the first one it's funny because it's absurd, in this one it's supposed to be scary, complete with dramatic music which is a whole other thing. I'm not interested in the Nadine character at all. It's ironic that he's doing exactly what he criticizes Lucas for doing: reusing old premises instead of doing something new.

To me the Episode I review is a really smart, self-contained short film.
Have you seen the Baby's Day Out review? It's pretty funny.

RLM's Phantom Menace review was genius, and his other stuff was good too. Attack of the Clones was really not as good, so I haven't rush over to watch Revenge of the Sith.
Meanwhile DIF has maintained a solid level of quality week after week—with, I might add, 95% less belching and racial slurs than almost any other commentary group.

Y'all playing checkers, DiF playin' chess.

To be fair, RLM has edited video to go along with his audio, and some weird plot thing going on as well.
You can also give a pig a day of beauty and makeup, if'n you want. DIF ain't less beautiful on account of she wears overalls.

Got my niece who's in 2nd grade a checkers and chess set, and we've started with checkers. Since I was a chess player as a teen and rarely played checkers, she actually managed to beat me yesterday after only 10-15 games. My chess skills weren't helping me
I once lived with a guy who was a refugee from Sudan. When he was living in the refugee camp, there was shit all to do, so they played a lot of checkers, apparently. Whenever we played checkers with him, it was always a really one sided game, and my brothers and I competed with each other to see how many of his pieces we could capture. The high score was 5. In attempts at retaliation, we'd get him to play chess, where it was much more even.

It is a different skill set, and I'm having to invent theory and strategy on the fly. On the other hand, I've picked up a copy of an old chess book I loved as a kid to bone up for when we start her on that game
Boy, this thread took a turn.

I feel the need to say that a strategically placed burp can be hilarious, and that i like chess but i'm a lousy player.
So there.
Okay, I've seen it now and enjoyed it quite a lot, at least as much as the Attack of the Clones review. Maybe there was just a lot more interesting stuff to complain about in TPM. After all, both Clones and Sith at least know who the main character is.
I've become increasingly less interested in these. I thought the TPM review was a fun little thing, but these belabor many of the same points he made then. While I agreed largely with his point of Lucas getting lazy and just live switching between two cameras filming a couch conversation, I felt the rest of it was a bit thin.
I dunno, I'd almost rather listen to an hour long review of why the prequels are better than the original trilogy, and I'll tell you why. I agree that the Prequels were bloated, unnecessary, and flawed from conception. While RLM articulates these points well, I'm not sure why I want to listen to a dude make a point that essentially boils down to a "duh."
I'd rather have an intelligent person make an insane point (The prequels are better than the godfather trilogy) with a level of articulation that make me reconsider than someone parrot what every SW fanboy has been saying for the last 11 years.
I think RLM has value because there's a difference between knowing THAT a film is dull and plodding and confusing, and being able to articulate WHY. It's what we do on DIF, after all.
I think RLM makes a lot of points that fanboys haven't been saying -- I don't remember anyone ever pointing out that TPM had no protagonist before he did. If he was just bitching about Jar Jar the whole time, I'd agree, but I think all three of them have held far more insight than most things I've seen in my time around fanboys.
I'm with Dorkman. RLM has helped me understand exactly why the prequels hurt so bad, in a more specific way than even DIF. And after watching this one, I get why I hate ROTS more than the other two.

That is an interesting point. Mind you, in the hands of good creators that can be a feature and not a flaw (in AKIRA, both the movie and comic, you can argue any one of a half dozen characters are in fact the protagonist) but that wasn't the case here.

I think that's why I like Harlan Ellison's trashing of 2001 A Space Odyssey. You just don't hear that opinion that often...
I certainly agree that RLM articulated a lot of points that were on the tips of many angry tongues, and did so in a fresh way. But just like I think that Lucas could have made all three Prequels into one tighter movie, I think Plinkett could have made his point about all three movies in one large review.
A while back I was thinking about doing something like that with District 9, because everyone seems to love that movie and I find it mediocre but seriously racist and condescending. The reason I got so pissed about D9 was mainly because a few months earlier there were a couple of 'black' robots in Transformers 2 which everyone and his brother decided were racist while I totally disagree with that opinion as well. Either I'm totally wrong about what racism is, or people have trained themselves to have knee-jerk reactions to any sort of racial stereotype while being unable to identify when something is actually racist.
I ultimately decided it would have been a boring video, tho. Maybe I should reconsider and just do it with funny voices and poop jokes.
But I do love Plinkett's reviews (all of them... The Star Trek ones are also funny). I kinda like that this one was less crazy serial killer humor and more comparison and analysis.
Please come to the District 9 thread and expound on what you feel is racist about DISTRICT 9.
Obviously it's meant to be a racial allegory, but I'm interested in hearing where you feel that crosses the line into racism, to a greater degree than monkey-like illiterate robots speaking ebonics -- in a movie which is NOT meant to be a racial allegory -- does.
