Re: Cabin in the Woods

Spoony is a cunt; I cannot stand any of these "internet reviewers" except Red Letter Media and Cinema Snob. Anyway, this douchebag over at the Village Voice spoiled the ending for Cabin in the first sentence of his review and supposedly mocked people over being upset, but I haven't come across that yet. The review and the comments are here:

I like Cinema Snob (I think he's a genius) and Phelous. They both do ridiculous films. Phelous does 'big' films too but he tends to also do their DTV sequels, which is great. Now that he's banging Obscurus Lupa, though, his reviews have went downhill. His most recent one is complaining about the ending of Lost. Ummmm....hello? Travel back in time, much big_smile

That Village Voice review is awful. He spoils the ending then says, 'that's not really a spoiler'. Yes it fucking is, you twonk.

Re: Cabin in the Woods

I disagree with his movie reviews almost 100% of the time, or at least his rant vids. I liked him better back when he was making actual videos and not all these "dude sitting on a couch talking about whatever" videos he's doing now. He should get back to doing that.

I like Egoraptor's Sequelitis videos. I liked Ryan's Ironman 2 video a great deal as well. I wish both of those guys made more of those videos. They're not just doing comedy bullshit, they're actually doing legitimate reviews and analysis of why something works and doesn't work. Most internet review shows are just trying to ape AVGN's style.

"Kevin" makes me laugh every time I see it.

I assume Kevin is most likely an analog of "Jason", but I prefer to imagine that somewhere in the menagerie there's some Lovecraftian horror inexplicably named Kevin.

Well...

Among the various possible monsters on the control room white board, one of them is just listed as "Kevin." Although Kevin is never seen, in the tie-in book The Cabin in the Woods: The Official Visual Companion co-writer Drew Goddard said that Kevin was meant to be "a sweet-looking guy who seemed like he might work at Best Buy--until he dismembers people."

This might actually be funnier.

Re: Cabin in the Woods

I think it's funnier if something scary has a dull name rather than it just being a guy called Kevin.

I still like the idea that it was the Pinhead-type dude big_smile

Ok, ponder this... Cabin in the Woods 2 as Ghostbusters 3...?

Re: Cabin in the Woods

I really wanted to like CABIN, but by the end I was just wishing that Brad Whitford would be cast in a show written by Joss Whedon.

There was nothing particularly wrong with it, and it was certainly funny, as funny as, say, Shaun Of The Dead, but there was nothing about it that made me want to revisit it.

And yes, for all the 'you think you know the story' setup, the script itself is designed to lead you down a very predictable path. I can't figure out why they didn't save the Whitford-Jenkins reveal until halfway throug the film, except that without those scenes, the film is a very boring horror film.
