Topic: What do you want to see on DIF?

Basically, I'm bored. What this means is that I have free time to do some fancy new stuff for Down In Front! What features sound cool*? What would make the site more easy to use? Are there bugs? Does your resolution make the page look funny? Anything and everything you want or don't like about the site can go here.

* Teague reserves the right to sleep with your mother and shoot down anything that he doesn't like. Be warned. He hates everything.

Is it possible to embed videos? I can see how it might get annoying if people did it too often though.

And more bbcodes? I don't think we can do strikethrough, for example.

- Proper archive page with browsing by title as well as image, not in a list box
- Full page forum without opening in a new tab
- Formatting toolbar in the forum for italics, bold, url, lists...
- Full text of merch that has a saying put somewhere in the description

It was there earlier, but now it's gone.

Fun fact, the other week a friend came to visit. He's a huge Scrubs fan and the hospital is five minutes from our place, so we went and checked it out. We ended up walking around to the front (the side they always shot faces away from the street) to find the door completely open and nobody around. So we walked around inside the Scrubs hospital for a little while.

Just remembered something I pointed out in a another thread somewhere else.  There appears to be a timeout once you log in, after which all the new posts are automatically marked as read.  Any chance of turning this off, or at least making it longer?  Even better, allow the user to set their own timeout.

Not a hundred percent sure how that works yet, but I quadrupled the timeouts for anything that looks relevant, so let me know if it gets better.

I'm not getting emails lately, even though i've got 'subscribe to topics by default' checked in my profile. And my email address is right. It used to work fine.

edit: I got one a couple of hrs ago for the 'Release, Record: 10/23' topic but not others. Weird.

Can we get a DIF IRC channel? If we had one, would it get used? I'm on IRC all the time, and if we had a DIF channel instead of these less then optimal chatrooms, it would be easier to participate if something spontaneous happened rather then having to keep checking this site to see if something awesome is going down in the chatroom.

SD: You may possibly be one of the few still using that shit. Last time I logged on to any IRC server was back in '04. I understand your query, it's just that it's terribly outdated. The chatrooms they use now is great, and if you keep up with the boards, you'll know when it's live.

As for new things, how about a title under each one's name, or a (lame) ranking system? Ranking system would obviously have to with ranks approved by the DiF crew, and hopefully stuff that goes right in the glossary.

IRC is awesome if you can find an active channel. I can often be found in #xkcd on irc.foonetic.net. I don't really mind the chatroom we have now (though it's message length restriction annoys the shit out off me). And I'm not talking about the live streamings, those are better off with a chatroom (and I don't go to them anyway, the streaming and my internet do not get along at all), I'm talking about the awesome spontaneous stuff that used to go down in the chatroom. And I'm mostly asking because I'm lazy, and it's more convenient for me if we had IRC.
