Re: Release, Record: 11/9

In that case, everybody hold off on donating.*(*) First thing we're gonna try is Mike's laptop with a better program. If that fails, we have a personal recorder that Brian owns. If that fails, we'll get the Zarban thing.

*Zarban, we'll pay you back retroactively with three years of commentaries. MOTHER FUCKER WE KILL YOU{*}

*(*)Everybody still donate, for fuck's sake, I'm just saying we're not gonna buy the toy yet.

*{*} Zarban, if you want your money back, I'll order you a pizza.

Shit, I say we do all three. At that point if we lose a commentary, we're doing it on purpose.

How many lines out does your mixer handle, and for that matter, what's the DIF kit look like?

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

The DIF kit, such as it is, goes like this.

Four microphones go into the mixer board.

The output line is split between the laptop and a second splitter. That splitter breaks off into the broadcast line-out, which goes over to the laptop handling the webcam, and the headphones. (Which means more splitters, two in fact.) The result is four headphones being connected.

So,

Output

Splitter - Laptop, Splitter

Splitter 2 - broadcast laptop, two more splitters that branch out into four headphone cables.

Rather than a fancy-schmancy backup device, wouldn't a new mixer with multiple lines out be more useful?

(I like saying fancy-schmancy)

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

Ever considered trying Garageband?  You're already using a Mac so it should be pre-loaded.  Also, with another splitter you could record to, say, the laptop and a second, backup source, like Brian's device or Zarban's suggestion at the same time.  And I wouldn't try to record directly to an external drive; it's one more point of failure you really don't need.

Tomorrow we're doing our second annual live judging thing for the Lightsaber Choreography Competition, but we might be sneaking in a special little something afterward. I'll let you know today.

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

cool.  I'll record the audio off the justin.tv feed if you do do something afterwords.  Just to be clear, I WILL NOT BE RECORDING THE AUDIO OF THE LCC THING.  I think I can at least offer a good back up in case things go south since you all have entertained me over the last couple of years.

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

I appreciate it. Tomorrow we're going to start playing with different recording systems to see if we can find a more stable one, so hopefully we don't need the back-up, but if by god's fucking will something goes wrong, your recording will be good to have.

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

Well, tomorrow we're not doing a commentary, we're judging the annual lightsaber thing - and afterwards recording a special, non-Down in Front thing to be announced when we record it, I guess.

But to answer your question, we start doing things at noon PST.

That was fun.  Just so you know Teague, I recorded the audio for both the competition and the Intermission thingy.  Just in case right.

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

Yessir, thanks.

It occurred to me today that I can also record the video (and thereby audio) straight out of our broadcast program. I just uploaded an 1:47:00 video to YouTube.

...which I guess we could do with DIF, if anyone wanted us to, but. Eh.

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

I think it might be neat to see the intermissions between the recording sometimes. I know there have been a few times where some truly classic DiF moments happened after the recording was done.

Doesn't Justin.tv save your recordings? I swear there was a guy who used to do a painting show on there and I was able to go back through and watch their older shows. Maybe I'm thinking of some other service, tho. Or maybe they stopped doing that. It's been a few years, I think.

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

The only reason I could see to save the video of the episodes, apart from just because, would be to maybe toss them on a disk and offer them as a gift for donations. Donate $25, get a DVD with a full day's recording session on it. Cheap to do, maybe it brings in some money. Anniversary shows would also be good for this.
