Just throwing it out there.
'Avengers' Sunk 'Battleship,' Director Peter Berg Says
Or y'know...it's Battleship...
It's like he's trying to run a Kickstarter program for the movie. Okay, Pete - but if you expect me to support your project by seeing it again, I want some kind of reward.
I like the guy, and I think he's made some good movies. Battleship just isn't one of them.
Your reward is a sequel, Trey.
In related news, when I Kickstart my next feature everyone who contributes $10 gets a personal punch in the nuts/ovaries, and another for every $10 after that.
Well if that's how it works, then I really do have to set up my website idea, which is called KickStopper. It's the place you go when you see some godawful idea on Kickstarter, and you can offer the creator money to never ever make that thing.
I hereby pledge to see Battleship again only if they'll use the money to NOT make sequels. Now that's a reward.

Ooh, can we set up recurring payments? I will give Shyamalan $20 a year for the rest of my life to for god's sake just stop.
We can make more money with flop than with a hit!

Oh, no, I'm not travelling over to America just for a punch in the nuts......

It could really go in any of the threads for the summer movies this year... I picked this one cause meh.
From the imdb board:
Here's what I think happened from the aliens' perspective, with some fiction added:
Centuries ago, our planet was attacked by another species. Unable to retaliate, a few of us survived by hiding underground. When we emerged, we found our planet completely devastated and unable to support life any longer.
In desperation, we found hope in a newly received signal from a distant civilization. It appeared to be a message of peace and invitation. Scientists from every field were selected for the trip. Our mission: to ascertain the validity of the message and negotiate asylum for the last remnants of our people.
During atmospheric entry, the unthinkable happened: the ship containing the entanglement communications module was hit by an orbital object and completely destroyed. We lost all of our best translators and xenolinguists. The remaining vessels landed safely, but we emerged to find what appears to be a small fleet of military vessels in formation in front of us. Sensor readings indicate a larger fleet stationed near by. A military bases is also located further inland. We don't know their intents but as a precautionary measure, shields have been raised.
The people of this planet is strange. It appears they communicate via audio in frequencies outside our hearing range. Our attempts at communication across the higher EM band received no replies. One of the military vessels broadcasted a high amplitude, low frequency sound wave. We will try to replicate this wave using ion resonators since our space crafts aren't equipped for atmospheric communication via sound.
The resonator wave appears to have caused some superficial damage to their vessels and they are now attacking. Analysis suggest that their weapons are powerful. We have no choice but to destroy two of them in self defense. The third one is veering off. One of our shuttles have crashed nearby. Homing signals indicate they have picked up one of the survivors. We can't leave him there; a small team is being sent over to retrieve him. Engineer Bob will attempt to disable their engines to stop further confrontations.
The mission has changed: We have to find a way to relay a message back to our people and tell them not to come. Three spinners are dispatched to take out enemy transportation routes to stop their ground forces from mobilizing.
We retrieved the survivor. He attempted to communicate our situation to one of them. I don't think they understand, or care. They killed Bob. There is little time. We must somehow modify those transmission modules atop the nearby island.
This is not what we expected to find. This planet is hostile. The message is a lie!
See? It's a movie about humans being assholes on a cosmic scale!
I finally saw this last night and loved it. Nowhere near as bad as some make it out to be, and far better than any Transformers movie. Earlier, I made the comment that this couldn't be less coherent than Transformers 3 and I stand by that. This never descended into farce for long stretches as people tried really really hard to be funny. The action was also clean and determinable rather than comprising cartoonish furballs of movement.
This isn't the worst movie of the year. It's far less insulting and stupid, by a significant multitude, than Prometheus. There's even some genuinely good human character development in this, not Shakespeare, but then even Shakespeare wasn't Shakespeare.
But then, I also enjoyed Battle LA (on much the same level, these are a perfect double bill).
I find it fascinating how acceptance of these movies seems to vary - Battleship isn't any less entertaining or more stupid than something like Independence Day of yesteryear or MI4: Ghost Protocol of this year. Decades from now, I'm sure people will be confused by the success of one over the other.
I agree. I just saw it too, and it's much less offensive than either Transformers 2 or Prometheus.
The Trailer did misrepresent it as a Liam Neeson film. I thought he was taking on the aliens with the entire fleet, as that's what the trailer seemed to suggest (e.g. fire with "all of them"). No, the plot made no sense.
But yes, just lower the expectations and it's harmless fun. CG Porn. FX Demo Reel.
But can Taylor Kitsch join Sam Worthington in retirement? They're both kinda bland.
I'd love to see a Letters from Iwo Jima counterpart to Battleship, telling the story from the above proposed alien perspective.
The problem with Taylor Kitsch is that I've never seen him do anything else from what he does - his character in this could just as well be the same character he played in Fright Night Lights for 4-5 years and could also be a descendent of John Carter. He plays this character quite well, but after a while it's easy to grow tired and what's more, you begin to realise that this may be his full range... I don't know, he needs to do a role that's a 180 from his usual. Sam Worthington is boring, Kitsch seems to just act bored as part of his character.
I recently saw Lockdown, a sci-fi actioner that's set on a prison in earth orbit. Even ignoring the insanity of having a prison in earth orbit, it's absolute ludicrous and egregiously so. Battleship, surprisingly, never really made me roll my eyes (well, almost when no legs veteran went toe to toe with the alien) and so it puzzles me that it received so much negative criticism when other films have done similar things... heck, I did roll my eyes once or twice in Avengers.

here's a great write up on grantland.com all about Asylum and their business practices. for better or worse, no trey references, though.
It had to be done
Awesome... Did you do make it?
Oh, I wish. But I just stumbled upon it.
If I had make it, it would be dedicated to Trey
Still waiting for the "I'm doing this Ironically" t-shirt.
