This week it'll be Slither, but I am thusly reminded to, when editing Slither, potentially edit up Priest as well and hide it in a secret link somewhere.

Dude, we should do that. Hide it in a secret link somewhere on the site. Lemme talk to Holden.

I see. Another "fix-it" weekend, like the Lost World/Temple of Doom double-feature. How exciting!

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

god, I'm gonna miss this. Tron Legacy is one of those movies I defend vigorously, but no one else seems to like. The thread for that one should be interesting, at least.

I thought you guys weren't gonna do Ironman 2 due to Ryan's pretty much defacto video on the subject?

^so that's why I was so certain DIF had already DIFed I2. I searched the archive but couldn't find it so thought my mind was playing tricks on me.  roll

hopefully they'll do this one after Tron  smile rather than before it, cos usually whenever there's a double helping I fall asleep shortly into No2.  sad

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

Yay Tron Legacy, the most boring action-adventure movie ever made, except for maybe the first Tron. It kills me how a studio can spend 200 million dollars on a movie like that and have maybe 15 minutes of action in the entire thing. On top of that Joseph Kasinski shoots everything with this weird detached style so there's 0 excitement at any point. This should've been an exciting escape-from-the-computer/chase movie, instead its people talking exposition at each other.

Also, I really hope you guys address Chekhov's light-cycle in this movie.

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

I guess it's sort of a Chekov's gun, as we don't get to see it be the fastest thing on the grid, but the actual next scene is a big musicky reveal of the bike being gone and him racing into the city.

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

I think its more that its just the lamest way of using it imaginable. In a good movie, if you introduce the bike like that, you expect it to play a role in the climax, unless they're explicitly trying to break conventions, which I don't think is the case here. It's like if they just used the Millennium Falcon once to fly from one planet to a second planet, and it never showed up again.

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

Oh my god, I just imagined that and you're right. That's exactly what would happen if Star Wars were made today. They'd have the conversation about the Falcon being a super-fast ship, then they'd get to Alderaan before it blew up and be like "Bye Han, thanks for the ride!" and he'd be out of the movie.

EDIT: Or, we see him one more time being interrogated by the Empire, and he's the one who tells them Luke and Obi Wan are on Alderaan, which is why the Empire goes after Alderaan. Then they kill him even though they said they wouldn't and he's all surprised because they had a deal.

I live on the East Coast, where we are currently experiencing an inexplicable blizzard, and we've evacuated our house, so I'll be watching this show from the safety of a hotel room. It'll be like an adventure!

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

I know the Iron Man 2 commentary hasn't been released yet but you guys were trying to work out why they cast a different Howard Stark in Captain America but you didn't come to the most obvious conclusion- they needed to cast an actor 20-whatever years younger than John Slattery. I don't think it is for any reason other than that smile

Thumbs up Thumbs down

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

I thought the question was just why cast a different actor than the one used in Iron Man 1. That was Gerard Sanders. The role was just background but he looked the part. John Slattery is great, but it would have been a nice break for a guy like Sanders to carry on that little role.

Now I suppose that Howard Stark is going to become a role like Felix Leiter in the Bond films, being recast higgledy piggledy every time it comes up.

Warning: I'm probably rewriting this post as you read it.

Was it? They did mention Howard Stark in Captain America in the same conversation though. I must have misheard smile

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

Oh cool, that's a good selection. Tropic Thunder I think could've been great but is waaay too broad for my taste, if someone took that premise and made a more low-key comedy out of it I think it could've been amazing, though Downey Jr is pretty brilliant in it.

Social Network is truly excellent, and especially as someone in the software field, I can tell you that it not only  nails all the technical details of programming (down to proper linux commands and server architecture) in a way I never see in movies, but also captures the whole general "vibe" of sitting around in college coding and working on startup ideas (complete with whiteboard diagrams, being "plugged in" and coding for hours, the late night drinking).
