Sure! I'd love one. If you'd like, I can PM a box.com account you can upload a file to.

I've heard the Guitar Hero mics are decent, use a USB port and can be acquired for cheap, if you want a quick fix.

Not saying it's perfect, but it is an option.

Ah, now one of these I do have.  If that could work, then that could work, and I'd be happy to be back in if needed.

Also, aural, do you want an audio sample from me before doing the project?

I think I'd actually prefer to send an audio sample just to check that the quality is OK.  Wouldn't want to let the side down and all that.

For the next hour, everything in this post is strictly based on the available facts.

Also, Mr. Chrystie. No pressure if you're not feeling it, but I'd be honoured if you wanted to lend your voice to the cast.

Re: Reading/narration collaboration

I have to admit every time I read this topic, I never gave it much thought. But that's actually something I'd enjoy a lot. It could be a great test for me to see if I can achieve a decent american accent (or even another one) when given time to practice (as in, not live - easier). Also, voice acting fascinates me.

I don't have much gear myself, only an USB mic. Cheap but decent stuff. However, I have the possibility to borrow audio gear from my school. They have great stuff - Zoom H4n recorders, boom mics, etc.

I guess I could send you a little recording if you're interested. Probably something from Amnesia, heehee. smile

I'd be very interested, of course! I'll PM you the box.com folder URL. I'm willing to bet the USB mic would work out pretty well.

Re: Reading/narration collaboration

Ya, if you need anymore cast, send a PM my way, would love to contribute in some way. I have a decent shotgun mic now so it should be doable. Kung Fu Steampunk Noir sounds awesome

Re: Reading/narration collaboration

Ok, I've read the finished draft and have compiled the character list. I've left the narrator out because I'd like to reserve that spot.

We have a total of 11 characters, including 2 female characters. I see that as a challenge. So get your wives/girlfriends on those mics, boys.

Oh, and the "short" story I asked for ballooned into 19 PAGES. By comparision, "Dust" was 6. So yeah. This'll be a longer multi-episode production, methinks.

Austin - Male - Main character; grizzled and sarcastic private dick
Feng - Male - Monk (Asian); polite and warm
Charli - Male - Cafe owner; kind to customers, admonishing to Austin
Gustav - Male - Master engineer (German); proud, intelligent, cunning
Boy - Male - Mysterious; bright, clever, cheerful
Antoinette - Female - Austin's secretary; sassy and opinionated
Amaya - Female - The client; princess (Asian); quiet, reserved and traditional
Jimmy - Male - Barkeep; gossipy, sly
Caucasian brawler - Male - Xiao Pei's lacky; big, strong, dumb
Sailor - Male - Sailor; salty (?)
Xiao Pei - Male - Mobster/monster (Asian); dangerous, full of himself, evil

All I can think to do is have people pick the character(s) they want to play and give first dibs if there are two people wanting the same one.

Re: Reading/narration collaboration

Teague, can you ask the other FIYH crew if they'd be interested contributing? I know Mike expressed interest earlier on in the thread and Trey has a voice made for this kind of thing.

Re: Reading/narration collaboration

Would it be relevant to point out how much voice time each character gets? People like me who are doing this for the first time might not want to pick a character who ends up having the most lines.

Auditions are a thing maybe?

Also yeah, what Saniss said.

Re: Reading/narration collaboration

I'd be willing to give the salty Sailor a go. (Yeah I could have phrased that better.) Or the mysterious Boy.

I could have a go at Austin, Charli or Jimmy.

Well, if we have to call dibs on these... I guess Xiao Pei could suit me. smile

I'm interested in any leftover male part. (Yeah I could have phrased that better too.)

Warning: I'm probably rewriting this post as you read it.

Yeah, I'm willing to take a crack at any male role, even to trying to fake a German accent.

Re: Reading/narration collaboration

Auditions are a long and tricky process. I say we just go for it with the talent we can muster.

Saniss, I'll compile maybe like a % of dialog scale to each character. I can tell you right now that there are a couple that have literally 1 line of dialogue.

Re: Reading/narration collaboration

Well, not full auditions obviously. But if 2 people want the same thing, maybe do a quick sample for each and pick the one best suited.

Just a thought, all for the project and all that.

I'd be interested in Austin. Any of them, really, but I do enjoy sarcasm.

Oh yeah. You've got the right voice for Austin, Dorkman.

Just heard from my buddy. He's got actor friends and might have a lead on some female talent.
