I'm curious, what the first two kinds of close encounters? I always wondered whether that confused people.

The early commercials and teaser posters showed nothing of the actual movie, they were all about defining the title, a la:

First kind: Sighting, Second kind: Evidence, Third kind: Contact
Coming soon: Close Encounters of the Third Kind

It was all very ominous, and it worked.  Oh cool, the Jaws guy is gonna do a scary movie about aliens!

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

That's kinda how I felt about Signs when the posters and stuff first started showing up

"Oh, Mr. Sixth Sense and Unbreakable is gonna make a movie about aliens? Sweet!"

Signs was ok, but it wasn't nearly a Close Encounters.

Good recording session, guys. That was fun.

I have no idea what just happened but I'm happy Roger Rabbit will be getting the DiF treatment. I now hope they actually like the film  big_smile

First DiF surprises everyone with Back to the Future, now Roger Rabbit!
Admit it, someone on the forum is actually Zemeckis.

I'm okay with the moment of forgetfulness.  At least we're getting a commentary so there's no reason to bitch.

I'm not a huge fan of this movie so I know I'm going like you guys talk about it. Than again my favorite Batman movie is Mask of the Phantasm.

This has one of my favourite one-liners - "Eat floor... high fibre". Looking forward to the commentary guys, should be an interesting one.

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

I wasn't able to Listen LIVE! but catching "Batman Returns" on justin.tv this AM left me floored. That was an excellent session of "Down IN Front." I only hope it leads to another sequel involving Trey in the Future. I'd love to hear another installment of "Brushes with Badasses" when Trey tells a story about Clancy Brown from "Pet Sematary 2." Can't wait for "Unforgiven."

Aw hell. I can't make the Dark Knight commentary OR the Best Picture Intermission? Talk about a shitty day. sad

Oh well. In that case, I'll leave my ranking of the Best Picture nominees, best to worst.

1.) The Artist
2.) Moneyball
3.) The Descendants
4.) The Help
5.) Midnight in Paris
6.) War Horse
7.) Hugo
8.) Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
9.) The Tree of Life

Huh. That got me thinking. I don't remember when, but Trey once made the comment that Batman has no arc in The Dark Knight. "In Batman Begins he becomes Batman. But in Dark Knight he's just Batman. He's Batman at the beginning and Batman at the end." That's reflected in the titles. Dark Knight is the only title of the trilogy without a verb, and the only one (so far, at least) where Batman doesn't change as a person. Maybe Batman will develop as a character in Rises.
