Topic: Da...Dum! Da...Dum! Jaws 2

After all of these years, this is the film i still cannot decide if i like it or not. Im a massive fan of the original. I love it from start to finish, the story and the characters and the awesome score.. truly JAWSOME! but Jaws 2 blows my mind. Ive watched it loads of times.. and i just cannot decide. I like how the Brody character returns and some others from the original, and hows its set on Amity island, but the teenagers in it bug me. First off.. who cares if they die or not.. they were weak characters from the get go.. the girl who screams alot, just throw her over the side to shut her up. The sex pest who has the death grip on the boat with the massive perm, im glad he got gobbled up. Keith Gordons character needs to just jump out of the boat and go drive Christine... and when they finally get attacked by Brucey baby, they dont seem that bothered. It was like "dont worry this happens all the time" kind of vibe filled the air. In the original you cared about the characters and if they were going to survive or bite it. But in this one, who cares. I heard in the first draft of the script the story was about Amity island and how people on the island were struggling to survive, businesses closed because of no tourist trade, because of the sharks impact on the island in the original, and it focused on the main characters more.. Chief Brody struggling with his demons etc.. In my opinion i think that would of been a better film. And theres a part in the movie i just do not understand.. the part where Helen Brody gets the phone call from Matt pooper scooper from the original.. she puts on a puzzled, confused face and says it was Matt Hooper he wont be in radio contact till next whenever.. as if she doesnt no who Matt Hooper is.. after the first movie and everything Brody and Matt pooper scooper went through together, they'd be like brothers wouldnt you think.. spending Christmas together, getting a identical tattoo, they'd be tight. So by her looking puzzled to who it is on the phone looks mental and makes no sense. I did like the helicopter scene and how everyone thinks Chief Brody is crazy because he thinks another shark has come to cause more anarchy in Amity. The town hall "im not going through that hell again" scene rocks.. and they did a superb job on the score in my opinion. But i just cannot seem to make up my mind on this one... Ill have to buy a bottle of Jack Daniels and watch it again during this week and try and make up my mind.

Oh yeah! why im ranting why has Brody's deputy changed his name by dipole from Len to Jeff in Jaws 2 ? is he on the run from the CSA or Tax man..? i demand answers!

They're only noodles Michael.

I... I started to read that, but realized I couldn't, due to the format and an extreme absence of punctuation and capitalization.

Apologies if you're not, but am I right in assuming you wrote all that while drunk?

Relevant to the topic itself: I like Jaws 2. The scene with the kid trying to hold onto the boat so hard, he takes a piece of it with him after getting pulled under water is intense and disturbing. smile

Jaws was never my scene.

Jaws is such a great movie that I think it makes it hard to appreciate that Jaws 2 is a pretty good movie. Jaws is about mankind's relationship with nature and what it means to be a man. Jaws 2 is about people getting eaten by a giant shark.

Finish that lyric. I dare you.

Warning: I'm probably rewriting this post as you read it.

I never saw Jaws 2, and I don't plan to anytime soon. I don't think that any form that a sequel took could have worked. Yes, I just said in another thread that any idea can be good if well-executed, but hear me out. Here we have a film where the villain is a shark, and at the end of the movie the shark blows up. How do you make a sequel? The shark can't come back. Potentially, the way to up the stakes would be to have two sharks, but that stretches the magic bean of the original; that one giant shark could go crazy and start attacking a beach.
