Re: Suggest an Intermission!

Knocked out four really good ones this weekend, so look forward to those. We need new suggestions. We've ruled out the ones we haven't done already, so the existing suggestions are shot.

Re: Suggest an Intermission!

Damn your reciprocity.

Zero budget film making; how do you make your picture sexy while being a filthy penniless student?
Martial art and asian cinema; breaking Teague's cherry.
Japanese girls; fucking hot, eh? A natural follow on from the above (You could also cover Korean guys to keep it nice for all parties).
The 30 minute treatment; pick something topical and build a treatment around it (eg. secret Google project)

?

What event finally crushed your soul, and made you realistic about Hollywood and film making in general?

Ooooh. I am more interested in that than in fucking kung fu movies, FixedR6mad

Re: Suggest an Intermission!

Some of these you've touched on somewhat already, but they could be expanded upon....

  • Are movie theaters doomed?

  • With VFX so much cheaper, why aren't there more good low-budget effects movies?

  • Is 3D here to stay?

  • How PG-13 tones down a lot of films that otherwise would have been R

  • Star Trek: what next? Star Trek 2 story workshop ... Original series TV reboot?

  • Genres/properties we haven't seen in a while

Warning: I'm probably rewriting this post as you read it.

Re: Suggest an Intermission!

  • How has the rise of video games changed the way films are made, and what has it affected in the VFX industry?

  • What trends do you expect to see emerge over the next 5 years in cinema?

  • Is the academy still relevant, and are their awards a reasonable metric of success?

  • Best film nobody's seen?

Zero budget filmmaking I'd love to sit on.  Making a movie for nothing that actually got retail distribution was how I broke in.

1) Delete my post
2) Record an intermission on best films nobody's ever seen and include non-existent movies that are AWESOME
3) Release it next April

Sorry, profit probably doesn't come into it.

Could notoriously bad directors have a place somewhere else in the film industry?

Like Shy Mu-Lawn, or U. A. Bowl?

How about you guys talk about the difference between Television Acting and Movie Acting.

Re: Suggest an Intermission!

I don't know how to characterize movie acting, but this is TV acting.

Actually that's a pretty interesting example - the girl is Brenda Song, who played Eduardo's scarf-burning girlfriend in The Social Network, and her performance there was obviously different.   In fact, she's one of my favorite actors in that movie.

It's certainly an example of how "acting" is different on the Disney Channel...

Re: Suggest an Intermission!

I didn't mean sitcomy acting, I meant more like people who are secessfull on TV often don't make it in film.

isn't the argument that people are used to seeing them on tv for free so are not interested in paying to see them in a movie?

Oh yeah, I see what you're saying. Movie acting IS different....

Re: Suggest an Intermission!

This may sound rather masochistic of me, but I honestly would not mind hearing a panel on the advent of movies like the Twilight series and the fan base that has generated more of a soap opera style of movie and story line than the traditional character building and plot development.

God loves you!

Re: Suggest an Intermission!

Is it much different then many other films aimed at women? Only the fact it was a book first, and a series at that, sets it apart from other tear jerkers and romances. I doubt they have that much more to say. Hell, they could just release the Twilight 2 commentary they did.

Re: Suggest an Intermission!

The Intermission might be a great way to talk about franchises. Is it worth it to do commentaries for all 87 Friday the 13th movies? Maybe the first one would inspire a full conversation, but the rest of them all together would make a fun discussion in brief.

Re: Suggest an Intermission!

^ there were only 11 movies in the original Friday 13th series - surely they could knock out commentaries for all of them over a long weekend.  big_smile.

[intermission idea removed cos, on reflection, it was rather pants]

Re: Suggest an Intermission!

I'd quite like to hear your opinions on whether or not piracy is killing the movie industry (and perhaps music, gaming etc) and perhaps whether some novels are 'unfilmable', what with stars my destination in pre production, despite the dismay of long term fans of the book.  This could probably be a general discussion on adaptions, so on... Just some ideas smile

Too much garbage in your face?  There's plenty of space in space!

I like those ideas! Thanks!

Re: Suggest an Intermission!

I like the adaptation show idea.  Game of Thrones would be a good example of adaptation done right, and I, Robot would be....the other thing.

Re: Suggest an Intermission!

You could also talk about how they used to do adaptations compared to today. Looking at the credits of old films, it's amazing how few times they actually kept the book's title...
