Topic: Transcription

Hey guys, I have a hard of hearing friend who I've been talking to about DiF and he really wants to hear it/read it so I was thinking of transcribing an intermission (a full commentary would take an ungodly amount of time) so if I did, any suggestions on which one would be best for a first time listener?

Too much garbage in your face?  There's plenty of space in space!

Re: Transcription

why not just let him listen to the same one a couple of times.  That's usually what I've done to get used to how people sound and what their speech mannerisms are.  I'd be nice if they streamed the live show in HD cause then I could kinda read the peoples lips... kinda kinda...

Re: Transcription

Your buddy probably knows more about speech-to-text software than we do, I know it's a thing. We might screw it up, though, talking over each other and all.

Re: Transcription

I think he kinda means as the best one as an introduction to DiF guys, not the best for a piece of software.

Re: Transcription

Oh, you're totally right.

Well. In that case.

The best for behind-the-scenes fun is The Abyss.
The best for comedy is... Twilight? Maybe?
The best for hating on is 2012.
The best for fixing is Surrogates. (Also funny.) Or Legion. (Be careful if he's religious.)
The best of the "big classics" is Star Wars, Empire, or Raiders. (Maybe Last Crusade.)

I'm going to start a thread right now addressing this issue ("best for introducing someone"), because I'm really curious. EDIT: Here it is.

Re: Transcription

I also think he was talking about intermission episodes, cause he's going to transcribe them himself. Like... by hand...

That's a hell of a lot of work, by the way, and I salute you're dedication to your friend.

I liked the "Blockbuster Bubble" episode quite a lot.
The "Film School! Film School?" one is also really interesting.
All of the episodes are fun or interesting for some reason, though often it's cause they veer into some tangent for a minute and it's hilarious, or they start talking about something that has little to do with the subject at hand, but is still worth talking about.

The piracy / fair use episode is also a good listen, but it's an hour long and I dunno if you feel like transcribing something of that length.

Re: Transcription

I've decided to go for "blockbuster bubble" because I think it's pretty much DiF in a nutshell and yeah I'm doing it by hand, cause speech to text software still kinda sucks, especially when there's a lot of talking over eachother smile  Thanks for the suggestions guys.
