Anybody been to this thing yet, because I'm still confused about something. From what I understand there are something like six different scenarios, but can you choose to go to say, Hoth every time, or is it just random each time? How do you get to see each one? If I'm going to spend a day at the park, I'd rather not spend the entire day re-riding the same ride in a vain effort to experience every permutation.
Wow, that second video is embarrassing.
I find it funny how Lucas won't allow other adaptations of Star Wars to be made into films (like say, the Thrawn trilogy) but he will allow this...complete bastardization of the fiction.
I think his motto is "Is it insulting to adults? Then it's ok!" This is on top of the already popular "Will it make me more money?"
My understanding is that the ride breaks down into four "phases," which are stitched together randomly every time the ride starts. There's probably a default hand-off at the end of one part and the beginning of a second part, say a jump to hyperspace, that they can use to bridge the gap.
Lucas and one of the head Imagineering guys were talking about it like a slot machine, the ride starts and it spins four little wheels that clunk into position with different story elements.
They said there's something like fifty variations, which I assume wouldn't mean fifty different available scenes, more likely something like seven scenes were made and which-four and the order will be different each time.
As for my opinion...I...feh. The problem I have is that I'm sure it'd be an exciting and engrossing new kind of ride to experience, as a human being, and had I never had Star Tours-Star Tours the Star Wars aspect would thrill me. As is, I won't be boycotting it or anything, but, I'm not in a rush to Disneyland.
Wait, wait—I had to look this up—Star Tours is ONLY about Star Wars? I always assumed "Star Tours" was a tour of animatronic movie stars or something. My hand to god.
Is it supposed to rhyme with "Star Wars"? Like "fours" and "shores"? Because it does NOT rhyme in my Midwestern accent. "Tours" rhymes with "moors" and "lures".
Ok, as per my duties in this community, I have consulted Wikipedia. It breaks down like this:
The ride sequence is randomized by having several possible events, although it has a branching narrative, the system has control rather than the participants. This gives Star Tours the advantages of being both highly repeatable and constantly surprising. Even though guests can experience 54 different journeys, the main priority (delivering the Rebel spy to safety) is accomplished no matter what the sequence is. The Rebel spy's identity is chosen at random from among the guests on the attraction, and their picture is presented during the ride.
There are eleven random segments of the film (three primary destination segments, three secondary destinations, three hologram message segments, and two alternate openings; all when permutated equal 54.) which are presented in the ride:
The Starspeeder 1000 takes off, although C-3PO protests he is not the captain. As the ship is about to leave the Star Tours terminal, two scenes may occur:
1. Darth Vader, Imperial Stormtroopers, and skytroopers arrive to arrest the Rebel spy aboard the speeder, and TIE Fighters chase after it.
2. As an Imperial probe droid detects the presence of the Rebel spy, the Starspeeder follows the Millenium Falcon which is being piloted by Han Solo, who is also trying to escape the Imperial fleet.
After jumping into lightspeed, three segments are possible:
1. The Starspeeder almost crashes on Hoth, where a battle between Rebels and Imperial AT-ATs is happening.
2. The Starspeeder reaches Tatooine and takes part in Boonta Eve Podrace, along with the ever-cheating Sebulba.
3. The Starspeeder lands on Kashyyyk, as Imperial jets hunt it down through the lush forest.
Then, back into space, a holo transmission of either Admiral Ackbar, Princess Leia or Master Yoda orders the Starspeeder to take the Rebel spy to a safe location.
Despite C-3PO's protests, R2-D2 takes the speeder to three different outcomes:
1. The Starspeeder reaches a besieged Coruscant, where the last forces of the CIS are facing clone armies.
2. The Starspeeder makes it to Naboo, which is under attack by the last Trade Federation armies. After a fight in the sky over Theed, the Starspeeder plummets into the depths of the planet and arrives near Otoh Gunga (with a brief appearance by Jar Jar Binks). As the speeder travels through the planet's core, carnivorous fish attack it.
3. The Starspeeder discovers the still uncompleted Death Star orbiting Geonosis. Boba Fett aboard the Slave I chases the Starspeeder into the asteroid field, before it ventures into the Death Star. Finally, it reaches the Rebel fleet, and lands in the Medical Frigate where Mon Mothma is awaiting.
And now to Excel to chart the permutations.

I'm in the same boat as you. I thought Star Tours was one of those things where they take you around Los Angeles and show you homes of celebrities. I had no idea it was whatever the hell I just saw in the second video.
