Topic: Announcement! Things!
Hey guys. First, if you haven't heard it, here's an audio summary of this thingy. Anyway.
In just a few weeks we'll be celebrating the third anniversary of Down in Front. Since March 2009 we've put out a movie commentary every week (except for one, shut up), and gotten a great community going here at the forums, as well as some great regular participation in the live chatroom during recordings. Earlier this year we started doing another show, The Intermission, a more free-form discussion show about TV, movies, and anything that interests us that week.
Over the last few years of producing the show, it's been gratifying to see the community and fanbase develop and to start seeing comments on Twitter and elsewhere, when a new film releases, that they're looking forward to seeing what we may have to say about it. It's also been frustrating to have to wait for such films to come out on video, months later...or to have comments and opinions to offer, but not enough to fill an entire running commentary.
So we're really excited to announce that as of our third anniversary, moving into year four of Down in Front, we'll be shifting our focus primarily to the discussion format we introduced as the Intermission, but much expanded. Along with the discussion of various film and TV topics - many of them suggested by our forum community (seriously, sign up) - we also plan to experiment with other content such as, well, effing movie reviews, both for new releases in theaters, and classic films that we'd love to talk about but just wouldn't be able to sustain an entire commentary. Dissection and analysis style, of course. Its our thing.
And what about the commentaries? We know that there will always be plenty of films begging to be praised or belittled for their entire running length, and we will continue doing commentaries for films that demand them. Moving into year four, the commentaries will just be less frequent than the weekly schedule we've had.
Leading up to the anniversary on DATE CHANGED: MARCH 10TH, we will continue to be doing weekly live recordings of some of our most-anticipated and in-demand films, culminating in a live marathon recording of the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy. And yes, it'll be the extended editions. It's going to be a party and you won't want to miss it, so save the date and plan to pop in at some point in the chat to say hi! More details in the weeks to come.
Whether in the form of a running commentary for a film, or the looser discussion format, Down in Front will continue to be a weekly podcast devoted to discussing the movies you love, hate, love to hate and hate to love with the friends in your head. It's been a great ride with all of you, and we're just getting started.
So, questions? Ideas? Suggestions for the epic movies?
