I speak Norwegian, English, Danish and Swedish(Granted, the nordic languages aren't THAT different) fluently. I understand and make myself understood in German, I understand the basics of Spanish/Italian, and I can distinguish Japanese/Chinese/Korean.
I've been wanting to pick up Cantonese or Italian, but I never got around to it, and now I don't really have time to school myself.
I am very disappointed in you.

Siskel and Ebert absolutely slam a snooty Star Wars-hating critic back in 1983.
Pausing at 2:50. So far, I don't necessarily disagree with John Simon, and Siskel and Ebert seem to have missed his point. Play.
Next question. Simon is arguing a principle, not the movie. Ebert wins this next round. Yowza.
Next question. Ope, Simon is making a good point. Kind of dismissively, but fair response.
Siskel: Missing the point again.
Siskel's question: Fair point by Simon.
Verdict: They have competing theories about what it means to review film. Most modern reviewers sound more like S&E, because they were shaped by S&E. Simon isn't a bad guy, he just got phased out.
I don't think they missed his point at all. I think they were needling him for being snooty and dismissive.
I agree with everyone in that video. But award the game to S&E for not sounding like evil German scientists.
Simon: "Many movies are too violent. This is one of them. Movies should be like Huck Finn. Also, Disney animated movies suck. I didn't understand what was going on. Get off my lawn."
S&E: "Lighten up, dude. Not everything needs to be Ingmar Bergman."
Simon: 0 S&E: 2.
BTW, Huck Finn totally falls apart at the end. Twain brings Tom Sawyer in to stir things up and then just goes "Good news! All the villains are dead!"
Huck Finn is a classic example of going to the mansion. It's probably one of the definitive ones.
That was great.

Fun short. Cool animation and I thought B&W was a great choice for it. If memory serves, they showed it in theaters before Wreck-It Ralph. Is that right?

WARING: Considering recent events this video is fairly disturbing. Please be warned. If anyone wishes me to delete this post I will do it without hesitation. However, it is a twelve minute long single take, and I think it's very impressive. It is a depiction of a school shooting at a high school. I believe this is from a Germen TV show. If you want to understand what they are saying be sure to turn closed captioning on. Again, I don't wish to offend anybody by posting this, but I think the work is worth viewing.

So.I got into a rather, well...let's be honest here...excessive chain of acapella Disney covers on youtube while I was working.
Here's the highlights.
First up, the ever amazing Nick Pitera.
EDIT: Bullet....hooooooly shit that was awesome. I love when they can get tech like that into the hands of people who actually know what they're doing. Although it makes me wonder how far we are from being able to create full body (Or at least upper body) virtual sims of ourselves that can interact with a virtual environment in any meaningful way. Her movements remind very heavily of how the Virtual systems are used in Otherland. Very cool.

1. I've seen all of those before. I am ashamed.
2. I Won't Say I'm In Love is probably my number one or two favorite Disney song ever, and that girl is pretty, so I'm gonna enjoy this good mood I'm in now.
3. The big guy in the UMass video is my king.
This isn't acapella but when it comes to vocals this girl takes the cake:
