I was recently appointed to a committee to rewrite our state's curriculum for 3D Graphics & Animation. I wanted to draw on the wisdom of these boards to give me some ideas. Specifically what does a student need to learn to get a start on a career. Specifically I want to focus on the following areas:

Creation: modeling, materials, lighting, cameras, rendering, etc.

Soft skills: understanding job titles, career planning, etc

History: are there specific events or people in 3D graphics or animation that a student should know about?

I respect this community and think it's members can have valuable insight for this process.

On an episode you talked about the documentary Holy Hell.  It's on netflix and damn it's powerful.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I have the right stuff, and can get October Sky from the library.

As for From the Earth to the Moon, That is going to be my weekend project.

In addition to teaching video production, I am now teaching an engineering class.

I want to do a unit on prototypes and failure.  I have seen videos of early NASA of a lot of different rockets blowing up as they figured out how to do it right.  I cannot find any these videos.  I think it would be helpful to show how NASA had problem, they worked those problem, and sent people to the moon.  (I'm sure I'm going to be using Apollo 11 a lot)

I figured there are enough space nerds here that someone knows where to find it.

I've been having good luck with https://www.codecademy.com

In my 3D animation class, I want to have my students do a final project kind of like a PreVis.

Can any one suggest any DVD's with good extras on PreVis or and web sites?  I want some good examples to show the students.

I'm teach a high school 3D animation class this term and I found Trey talking about the skill muppetters have in designing mouth/face movements really interesting.

Does anyone know of any good resources (web pages, videos, documentaries) about the art of puppetry that I can use with my class?
