omgsoexcited!!
Supernatural!
I have trouble with insomnia, and I listen to DiF to relax. And it actually helps!
You guys are like drugs!
Do I spy Wallace and Gromit within your collection?!
@Owen
Well I dabble a bit more than you. I got a Celestron C8-SGT telescope for my birthday, and since then I've been going out almost every night and searching the skies (not for anything in particular, I could sit out there for hours.) I also recently purchased a Canon Rebel T2i and some mounts for my telescope so I can start taking a crack at astrophotography.
@MrDudeMan
Essentially, a culmination of small problems lead me to ditch Engineering. First of all, the physics that you deal with first year is primarily mechanics, which isn't my favourite. Secondly, the workload is pretty heavy. If you have a social life now, it will become nigh non-existent once school starts. Thirdly, a lot of my teachers were foreign with real heavy accents. I have Nothing against them personally, they were actually really nice, but trying to learn something from them was extremely difficult, and in tandem with the workload/course content, it was nigh unbearable.
That being said, I know a lot of engineers who are now in the workplace, and basically all of their jobs have absolutely nothing to do with what they learned in school (which also pissed me off.)
As for high school, I got 90's throughout. I never studied for a test and didn't do any work at home. In a way though, I wish I had, because if you don't know how to study when you start engineering, it's going to be a tough go. Unless you're a freakin' genius. Don't let all this negativity wear you down though, I've seen what engineers do after and I'd say it's worth suffering 4 years for.
Good luck to you!
TheMargarineMan: What is so fascinating about geophysics, to you? Sell me on it.
Physics has always been a subject of great interest to me, and because it's so diverse, there are lot of different career possibilities. Growing up in Alberta, oil and mineral exploration, development and transportation has been a big part of my life (my Dad works at a Shell Refinery.) So I decided on a branch of physics that had some sort of relevance to where I lived. As a geophysicist, I would analyze data from seismic equipment to determine the locations of oil and gas.
If I'm completely honest, I would rather study Astrophysics, but the career opportunities aren't nearly as well defined. Something about studying the origins of the universe and everything contained within it just makes me feel...awesome.
In short, I chose geophysics because
1.) It involves Physics
2.) Lots of money/work
Yes, I am motivated (somewhat) by greed.
I know this doesn't really answer your question, but it's hard for me to sell it to you without any sort of experience. I'll get back to you in four or five years.
New questions:
@JimmyB: What sort of podcast would you want to do?
@Teague: Is there a place in the world that you've always wanted to travel to, but never got around to it?
Teague: If you weren't in the VFX business, what would you want to do?
Edit:
My name is Cameron. I spent the past year in University studying Engineering, and have subsequently discovered I hate it. I am now intent on studying Geophysics and will be starting that in September. I enjoy photography, science (specifically physics/astrophysics), music (played the piano since I was 3) and playing the odd video game (WoW among others.) I've started to dabble in amateur astronomy and astrophotography, and hope to move to Vancouver Island in the near future.
AMA.
I'm only 19 and not in the film business so I can't help you BDA, but to answer Paulou:
does uni =/= college in Canada like GB?
Yes, University is not the same as College in Canada. Universities offer degrees (fuller, more extensive and most often harder education) and college's tend to offer diplomas/certificates (secretaries etc.)
Crossing my fingers for Dark Knight Rises.
This is fucking awesome!
Thanks for awakening my dormant epilepsy.
That's one fine looking shoe
Oh boy. If the majority of today's movies are starting to make the Star Wars Prequels look good, Hollywood is really starting to shit the bed.
I'd go with the rot in movie hell option.
Titanic
If you haven't read them, I'd definitely recommend the Sherlock Holmes books by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I decided to read them after becoming deeply enthralled with the BBC series, they're quite good.
Looks fandiddlyfuckingfantastic to me
Loved the ending to this commentary, makes you realize the scope of what you guys accomplished (coming from someone who was unable to make it to the live show, still hating that my birthday was on the same weekend.) Very nicely done, kudos to those of you who went through all twelveish hours.
During the summer it is, quite a large one too.
I'm probably gonna do more, just not on any sort of pre-programmed basis. I can tell you that I got more out of Max than I thought I would, and am energized and feel re-assured to try another one.
Excellent.
Another question. If you were in the same situation as Max, would you have done things the same?
So, are you planning on doing any other musicals/songs in general down the road?
'Cause I think I could use some more Teague songs in my music library.
