Maul, you need to calm down dude. If you ask nicely during the live video feed in the chat, there's a chance you'll get your question answered right then and there. I asked very nicely how would you write a spit screen scene into a script and not a minute later, both Michael and Trey were nice enough to offer their advice.
looks like Apple has released some sorta update that fixes a few things, but; from what I gather: causes problems with basic functionality. One example is if you add an effect to a clip, the program crashes! The sad part is, my boss want me to look into using FCPX for the school. I am trying my hardest not to fly off my rocker with this thing. As I look more and more into the software, even going so far a to download the trial version, I'm finding that it's just going to be a hassle re-learning how to use FCP...
I have a feeling some idiot hyped FCPX to my boss at the conference he's at. I can see possibly using this for small projects, but 4 camera shoots that last 3 hours!? I don't think so.
Here's the scenario, I like to do multicam on shoots where we use more than one camera, just cause it makes my life easier in terms of cutting between two sources of footage. My boss seems to think that 1. multicam takes longer to cut than the regular old fashioned way. 2. If I do multicam on say two cameras, he thinks that fcp combines the audio from both cameras together . I tested this out and I'm not hearing that, but he doesn't seem to want to budge... thoughts..?
didn't record a back up for last weekend's movies... Sorry, family was in town.
I don't recall hearing much of this, but I was wondering if you all could talk more about the role of psychology in storytelling. At least in regards to how it dictates the decisions one makes as a storyteller when putting the story together.
I recently listened to the phantom editor's commentaries for the Phantom Edit and Attack of the Phantom, and I was struck by how involved some of the decisions he made were. He talked extensively about psychology dictating his cuts.
cool. I'll record the audio off the justin.tv feed if you do do something afterwords. Just to be clear, I WILL NOT BE RECORDING THE AUDIO OF THE LCC THING. I think I can at least offer a good back up in case things go south since you all have entertained me over the last couple of years.
being a hearing impaired person, I always hate it when subtitles are wrong. I want to know exactly what is being said, not the general idea! Or in some cases, whatever the person doing the subtitles feels like putting in there...
And then there's the news, especially local news. Some of the things you find on the closed captioning are friggin' hilarious!
I don't think dorkman and teague were having a hard time understanding. The problem was I wasn't clear enough, so let me clarify. Sure it had crossed my mind that they could just download the video feed themselves to patch the audio, but I thought maybe when they downloaded the .flvs, they couldn't hear that part of the video for some reason. That was why I was asking more questions.
BTW, I played around with the pirates commentary and it seems that justin.tv has a two minute and thirty second gap between each .flv video. So, I'm going to record the audio out from the live show in the future.
alright, I can give you guys a .wav file transcoded from the .flv from the justin.tv site . I can email to whoever. I think from now on, just for shits and giggles, I'm going to try to record the audio for the live broadcast onto a solid-state medium. That way you guys will have a good back-up if you need it.
I think there are actually gaps in the justin.tv feeds. I'll have to check on that. I have the pirates commentary to play around with to test my theory.
I've already downloaded the long videos of the commentaries. Where was this problem exactly? I just listened to the audio highlight that Teague referenced. Then I watched my downloads and the thing seems to work fine... I think I'm missing something. I can give you guys what I've downloaded if you want, but it should be what you can already get off the justin.tv site.
Does trey say "she's too young, she's fine" toward the beginning or the end or what of the commentary?
the effects shots you mentioned Teague didn't feel to me like effects shots, even though I kinda figured they had to be. Good work on that. The effects weren't really what I had a problem with though. The whole short plays a bit too cute considering they are supposed to be in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. You'd figure there would at least be a character or two playing it serious straight.
I'm not sure how many of you heard about this fallout short, but apparently it was pretty huge on the web this past January. I just watched it for the first time, and I think it's not as awesome as some seem to think. Am I alone on this?
Eh, it's a film that's not for everyone. But I like it. I think ,in part, the reason why is because I grew up when movies took a little bit more time with their characters and didn't feel the need to rush things so much. Blade Runner was one of these movies. The flick was influential, sure but it is much slower than todays films.
