Say what you want about Cameron, but man that guy is ambitious.

Uh, today I learned that Joel Silver is one of the co-inventors of Ultimate Frisbee.

Ooh, I like that idea. Also: fun film, Sam Jackson in plaid, and you can also do the "what the heck happened to Renny Harlin?" thing.

I would quite like to see this. I thought the '94 movie was obviously bad, but it was clear that the actors at least, were trying their hardest. (Also, now that I think about it, Doom was far more charismatic and entertaining than the 2005 Doom). Anyway, would be really neat to hear their thoughts on this!

Come on.
Not one single goddamn person knew about Disney buying Star Wars, but now suddenly people's "inside sources" are reliable? Don't do that to yourself. Don't give these hit-whoring assholes any more page views. If there's news, we'll know from the right sources when appropriate.

I like that idea.
The Corman one was obviously made on a tiny budget, but it doesn't feel as awful as it should. You get the sense that everyone involved was trying their hardest. And when it's bad, it's charmingly bad.
I'm pretty surprised at how much I tolerate the Corman and the modern Fantastic Four.

Though I can give no such pass to Rise of The Silver-Surfer. That should have learned from the mistakes of the first one, so they have no excuses.

Fantastic Four would be an interesting one, in that regard. After all the years of people shitting on it, I was surprised by how much I didn't hate it. It does some things right (Chiklis and Evans, comedy, and most of the tone) but then it does some things very wrong (Alba, Doom, Welsh dude playing Reed, drama, the rest of the tone).

AT-ATTICA! AT-ATTICA! AT-ATTICA! But seriously, this is charming as fuck:

And check out the making of. It's inspirationally straightforward:

Oh, you guys. Nice job on the video feed lol

A 23 year-old Jeff Goldblum and his sideburns appearing uncredited in a '75 episode of Columbo.
Later in the episode, they enter a teleportation device together and become Goldblumbo.

I've been reading Nova this week, and quite enjoying it. I do see your point, but I'm glad they ignored it. If there's one golden rule we learned from Iron Man 2, it should be: "You got good guys? You got bad guys? Then back the fuck away from the script. STAND DOWN."

(Besides, they can easily add Nova him/herself in a sequel, if appropriate and desirable. They could even have the comic-version of Cosmo 'cause that level of crazy shit is totes acceptable now!)

Speaking for the splatter: the other possibility is that for promotional material which is going to be widely accessible, they may have replaced the gorier elements with more PG-13ish effects, while the movie itself will have effects more like the original.

I loved this episode. I got a big kick out of your off-topic, free-form blues-jazz (wait, no, jazz-blues) odyssey.

Trey, for your first point:

Oh boy, if you didn't like that, you're probably not gonna like it in the rest of the Marvel movies. All of them are building up to Thanos (big blue fella) wanting those 6 (is it 6?) magic beans so he can presumably rule over everything. It's stupid, but it's a famous comic storyline (infinity gauntlet, right, people?) and it's an easy way to give all the disparate movies a common throughline (eventually).
I kinda black-boxed it for this movie. I think you got it right. Whatever they say on screen, just think of it as "bad guy wants the Magic 8-Ball, good guy tries to stop them".

Herc's Understatement Cornerrrrr!

Gosh! What an entertaining and satisfying movie. And oh, how we laughed! I would greatly enjoy watching it again.

This did everything it intended to do, it did it well, and it did with charm and good humour, without overstaying its welcome. A thoroughly enjoyable sci-fi romp that so effortlessly buys goodwill that it would be almost churlish to give too much weight to any criticisms. There possibly are criticisms to make, don't get me wrong, but they're hard to spot and easy to dismiss. And the sense of humour delivered just as I'd hoped. From time to time I do leave a cinema pleasantly surprised, but this is the first time in a long time, if ever, that I had high expectations and had them matched. Lovely smile

Anyway, Hercules is about the 'actual' story of Hercules, like the legends are loosely based on an actual guy or something.

Uh, yes.

And then, for some reason, they start in on trying to convince him to agree to protect the city, even though he already did. He didn't refuse the call to action, but they still went through the motions you'd have to go through if he had refused. It's fucking weird. The scene where he finally decides to accept the call isn't in there either, because he already had.

Okay, that was the fault of my new personal assistant. They thought it was a refusal of the call, but when they called to confirm, really I just didn't get the call because my PA gave them the wrong area-code, so it was this whole thing where they thought I wasn't on board and I thought they were being weird and pushy. We laughed about it later though.
Anyway, I told the filmmakers to leave that kerfuffle out of the adaptation, or to add a scene showing my refusal of the call, but they said that wouldn't be accurate and they wouldn't want to disrespect my story.

I had a similar experience!
They showed us Amadeus (well, an hour of it) in music class, when I was about, let's say, 13. I get that it's based around musicians, but ostensibly, it's a character study about jealousy. Wrong film at the wrong time. It'd be like watching Planet of The Apes in our Behavioural Ecology class.
Though, when we did Media Studies (15/16?), they showed us an hour of Rushmore, but even as an adult, Wes Anderson's films are hard to unpack.

Maybe my school just didn't have VHS tapes for GCSE students and they were just nicking tapes from the A-Level classes.
