Fuck that guy. He seems like the worst kind of geek contrarian, who parrots vague ideas about popular films that he heard from legitimate detractors without actually understanding their connections to the film. More importantly, he seems like a douche.
I also think it's funny that, while I agree with everything you said about Confused Matthew, I think you missed the most important flaw in his videos: The "nothing happens in this movie!" complaint. His reviews for Lost in Translation and No Country for Old Men are particularly infuriating because of this. It's the most useless, misguided criticism imaginable. Almost always.
The time has come for an X3 commentary.
All Is Lost loses a lot of its power if you know ANYTHING about the main character, imo. The reason it works as well as it does is that there isn't any extraneous information about him whatsoever. He's just a human being trying to survive.
You know when you get so good at something that you just assume nothing will ever go wrong with it? All Is Lost relies on this pretty heavily.
And yeah, the inciting incident can be as unbelievable as you want as long as the story is decent, because no matter how unlikely the event, it makes no difference. This is the story of what would happen if that thing happened.
I like that version a lot. The only problem is that the original scene spells out the theme of the movie, and this one kind of doesn't. I mean, I guess it does, but it's not as blatant as the "You need to let go" thing.
BDA is right. It's worth remembering that the most popular YouTube personality is Pewdiepie, who produces some of the most horrid content you could possibly imagine.
I just really like "Only Cat" as a line. It bugs me a little that they got rid of it because they were afraid people had forgotten who "Cat" was.
It's still a great scene, of course. I just wish they'd kept that line.
"Your sister."
GODDAMNIT THEY FUCKED IT ALL UP AGHHHHHHH
I like Invid's idea, but I think that having Godzilla deliberately take action against humans is a mistake. It's far more interesting if Godzilla has no more feeling for humans than we do for ants.
"I'm full of myself!"
FUCK this show omg I love it.
I would probably pitch exactly what we got. I don't think it needs fixing.
I don't follow a whole lot of Youtube channels, but one that I've been subscribed to for a while is Marble Hornets, aka the web-series that featured Slender Man before Slender Man was a thing. To date, it's the only treatment of the character I've seen that's genuinely scary.
Cannot STAND The Oatmeal, and the Tesla worship in particular bugs the shit out of me. Nikola Tesla was a fascinating and eccentric personality. Piling heaps of praise on him and making angry webcomics when people dare to criticize him reduces him to some generic "science hero" and that's bullshit.
Also it's a shitty, unfunny webcomic that panders to the worst internet in-jokes (lol bacon lol cats!!! XD XD).
FUCK i just spit my drink everywhere. I did not see that coming.
Lilo and Stitch commentary?
I think Cloverfield is one of the few movies where found footage actually works, mainly because it's used purposefully. The point of the movie is to show what a monster movie looks like for a random person on the ground, which is a perspective rarely shown in favor of big wide shots of the monsters themselves. As opposed to Boring Found Footage Horror Movie #359, which only uses it because it's cheaper to produce a movie that way. I can count on two hands the number of found footage movies that use the aesthetic effectively and for a reason. Chronicle is another recent one.

Mas. Ter. Piece. Full stop. See this movie, guys.
Saw it last night, would like for you to elaborate.
Jeez, I mean, where do I even begin? I loved almost everything about it.
I loved its commentary on misogyny and rape culture, its use of Johansson's fame and image to play with its audience, the way it slowly turns from disturbing horror to a melancholy treatise on the human experience... I love that Glazer filters it all through a distinctly alien perspective in his direction (particularly with some inspired sound design) and I really love Mica Levi's haunting, anxious score. I wish I had time to write a full review, and I wish I could get my thoughts more in order. But yeah, I loved it.
ShowAlso, I am amazed that this show has a villain who DRINKS THE TEARS OF ORPHANED CHILDREN and it STILL doesn't feel ridiculous.
Fucking phenomenal episode tonight.
ShowTotally called Freddie being alive.

I'm always looking for more feedback on these episodes as it's a passion project. If you've listened to this episode, how do you rate it with the others? Are there any documentaries or type of documentaries you'd like to hear about?
I'm loving the show so far. Has a different energy than the rest of FIYH.
I'd like an episode on docs that experiment with form. I saw Tarnation recently and it really knocked me on my ass.

We've replaced an appreciation for complexity of character and emotion with a complexity of plot mechanics, and I think this is a major problem with movies today in general, and Nolan's work in particular.
Fucking nailed it.
I've walked back on Inception BIG TIME. It's a cold, unimaginative movie.
Definitely walking back on Avatar. It's incredibly well-made, which I didn't give it enough credit for at the time. My complaints really boiled down to "the story is derivative," and while I'll have to revisit it to be sure, that's not enough reason to hate a movie.
Wow, has it been ten years already?
THE CREEPING FEAR... it sounds like a serial chapter title... it has a retrofunk to it and like both the previous names it would be sure to drive fanboys screaming mad about how Lucas is insane and how Fincher should be directing the final part... but... THE CREEPING FEAR is the thing that's gonna bite Anakin on the ass and complete his transformation. THE CREEPING FEAR is what is going to be wiping out the Jedi, making the few survivors genuinely feeling like lucky bastards.

I liked how episode 5 was basically just a sitcom. The show has had plenty of moments like that in the past but this episode was practically nothing but them top to bottom.
