Christ would be surprised to learn that he superseded Judaic law.

Just as Moses would be quite shocked to hear Jews don't sacrifice goats anymore. And Joseph Smith that Mormons aren't marrying multiple wives. And L Ron Hubbard that people are still worshipping his Sci-Fi novel. What's your point, that religions don't change?

That was Judaic law, which Christ superseded.

I mean, if we're going to get pedantic.

Can you give mine whatever you give yours? I'd like a SCII partner, but she'd rather spin yarn.

Nonsense. Teague just has a different idea of "fun." His "fun" involves making out with girls.

Some of us are able to make out with girls, and play video games. Sometimes at the same time.

Teague doesn't understand 'fun.'

My argument has less to do with how recent a game is, and more to do with what it costs next to what I'd be willing to pay. Incidentally the new ones are too expensive. It's worth mentioning that I don't own DVDs and rarely see movies in the theaters.

So what exactly is your ceiling for per-hour entertainment? If it's, like, an intense blow job, are you willing to go up to like $5 per hour, or are you always stuck in the tens of cents?

I personally am willing to spend up to about $30, if it's something like a great meal, but typically try to hit around $10-$15, for like a movie, or a show, or Putt Putt, or something. $60 for a game that I've already put 20 hours into is a steal.

In related news, I'm going to stop listening to Down In Front, because I only watch movies that are in the public domain. I just don't see what the fuss about these new fancy movies is about.

Well, Dune is just a bad movie. Not even David Lynch likes that movie, and he likes some pretty crappy movies he's made.

The rest appear to be perfectly good movies that plenty of people like.

Whelp, I decided what-the-heck, and shelled out the sixty bucks. Now a hideous Jim Raynor is staring out at me with dead eyes.

The game itself seems fun enough so far, but wow, these cinematic interludes are ugly.

Um…what settings are you running the game at? The in-engine cinematics looked pretty good to me.

And yeah, Starcraft II is a better game than Goldeneye, and cheaper at release. So, I don't see what the big deal is. Older stuff is cheaper, newer stuff is more expensive. You're gonna pay $20 for a DVD you watch a couple times, or you can pay $60 for a game you'll play for hours and hours. It's not like there's a subscription fee.

Man, I love digital distribution.

Anyone else playing this? It's pretty awesome, and the system requirements aren't all that difficult. I'd love to get some co-op up in here.

I believe it was mentioned in a another Down in Front commentary that some sort of auto-destruct device was used on Challenger after the main explosion (I can't remember which commentary).

I've never heard of this, and actually, all the information I've read is that there was never any sort of explosion, just a break-up of the ship during flight. Do you have any sources on this?

Yeah, I can't see this either. Trey, buddy, give me a DVD to buy, something. If it's on iTunes, I can buy it.

We haven't gotten any show notes for this one yet, so does anyone have any recommendations for good documentaries on failed films (or at least productions gone wrong)? I have Lost in La Mancha, and Killing Priscilla doesn't seem to be on Netflix. I couldn't hear the other one Dorkman mentioned.

You should check out 'Incident At Loch Ness.' Sadly, I don't think Herzog's 'Enigma of Loch Ness' is ever going to make it out of the cutting room, but the documentary about the making of it is rather insightful.

Dude you need to get new people, like seriously fast. I am a huuuuuuuuuuge Whedon fan and I didn't even know he did the first draft of this..... thing.

umm....  When did we say this was the first thing we thought of?  I'm a pretty big Whedon fan myself, but If I'm not up to your standards of Whedonosity, then I will happily tender my resignation.

Whoaaa, there, calm your horses, buddy. Maul's post was in response to DoctorSubmarine's, not your podcast.

They weren't floating because they were in free-fall, they were floating because Arthur was in free-fall. The way the rules work, apparently, is that you have to be awake in the level below the one that has the effect.

I found the comment that Ridley Scott had never been asked to do another film interesting. There's an old story that after Aliens Cameron was asked to do the third film, and his condition was he'd do it if Scott did part 4. Needless to say that was the deal breaker, so what didn't FOX like about Scott?

I can't imagine at all that that story is true. I bet Scott just wasn't asked back because the second movie was so much more successful, and they wanted directors who would be willing to remake it with as small a budget as possible. Scott and Cameron both weren't going to want to do that. Hence grabbing a nobody from obscurity, and then a French art film director who didn't know any better,

The other reason I bring it up, though, is that looking at the clips he uses, it seems that as the shows moved away from reusing Japanese sentai footage and started producing the action content locally, it transitioned from karate to kung fu. And it started with Turbo. Apparently I outgrew it at just the wrong moment.

Actually, not quite true. Power Rangers always used action from Sentai shows. Turbo, specifically, used clips from Gekisou Sentai Kaareinja (get it? Car Rangers?). The Kung Fu you see (when they're wearing the suits) was done by the Japanese stunt people. What was shot in America was anything that showed the kids specifically. They did a better job hiding the difference between 'borrowed' and new footage as the shows progressed.

The shows continued to use Sentai footage, up through the latest show, RPM, which aired in 2009, and was based on the Sentai series Engine Sentai Go-onger.

The current Sentai series airing in Japan is Tensou Sentai Goseiger, which is based on a card game they sell here. Yup, it's Power Rangers Yu-Gi-Oh. It'll be interesting to see if that one makes the transition to America.

Interestingly enough, while all the TV shows are based on and use footage from Japanese shows, the movies were both entirely original, even Turbo, which was a bridge between the Neo and Turbo series. There's some interesting stuff online about the production of the first film in Fox Studios Australia, where the Matrix films were shot. I'll edit this post if I can find it again.

I watched this one during a spurt of Alien watching a few months back. I enjoyed bits of it, but certainly it's a mess. I think, though, that I have lower expectations for an Alien film than most people, especially those alive in the 80's. By the time I started watching the films, I knew that there were going to be diminishing returns, and watched them accordingly. As someone said, A4 is just fine if you think of it as a cheap SyFy Sunday movie.

I kinda have highish hopes for the prequels, though. CG has finally gotten to the point that the Aliens can be rendered without doing a lot of distracting puppet work.
