(Spoilers if you care...)

Pretty much what the title says...Give me your favorite episode of a not so great TV show and why it's your favorite.

To start I've got one from Star Trek Voyager. I think I can pretty safely assume that none of us would consider ST:Voy a Sci Fi masterpiece but there is one specific that always catches my eye whenever I think of Voyager. Namely Season 5 Episode 6: Timeless.

If you haven't seen it, the gist of it is, the crew creates a new way of travelling, the Slipstream drive, yadda yadda cuts years off the trip yadda yadda the usual treknobable. SHort story is, it requires a shuttle craft out in front to calculate the waves of the slipstream and relay them back to voyager so that they don't get smashed to bits.
Well, the shuttle craft (Namely Ensign Kim) screws up one calculation sending Voyager spiraling of into the wild blue yonder of the delta quadrant. However the Shuttlecraft makes it all the way back to earth. So years go by, Kim is tormented by his mistake. So him and Chakotay (The only two people on the craft) decide to try to send a message back in time to fix the mistake and save Voyager. So they become outlaws, stealing a ton of really valuable shit, we get a nice little guest appearance by Levar Burton, we find Voyager completely frozen in ice, they activate the doctor, we get some funny little quips from him, and then there's some more treknobable about sending the a message back to Seven of Nine cortical implant or something like that anyways. All in all they save the day and Voyager continues on it's journey, like the good little mainstream show that it is.

Well this episode sticks out in my mind as my favorite for a lot of reasons, for one it seems like a departure, tonally, from what Voyager seemed to do most of the time. It felt much more, real...I guess would be the best word for it. You could actually understand where these characters were coming from in thier actions. We have the ensign tormented for years by the thought that he killed every single person on Voyager and his ex-commanding officer having to go through it with him.

And then we have this entire unseen history of these two guys on earth and how that has changed them, so that they really are completely different characters, Kim is much more gruff and despondent and Chakotay is well...married, I think it was. But both of them have had to transform themselves into these criminals and outlaws and it may not be a good thing, but hell, their all in it together now. Also it's just a nice breather to be able to see these guys as themselves and yet at the same time be completely different people.

And throughout the entire episode their dynamic together is great, even with the doctor thrown into the mix. We end up with this great mix of the emotions of these guys on a suicide mission to fix a mistake they made while at the same time having to live with what they've done in thier own timeline in order to make it happen. I just love every minute of it.

Anyways, thats enough outta me....Show me what you got.

Agree agree agree...

I just finished Battlestar a couple months back and haven't had time to actually think about to any great degree, but I pretty much agree with what all of you have said.

And BTW, could we please nail the audience over the head with the fucking theme of the series in the finale a little more please??? I don't think I quite get it yet.

As far as I know, the IASA hasn't been founded yet, so it would be hard to do research on what their uniforms actually look like.

Honestly, I am so fuking sick of this joke.

On a more related note, never watched the series, haven't seen the movie, probably will only go for the visuals.

Jeff....to what exactly are you referring?

Or are we just going to start referring to British actors as "its" now?

When one Chris Walker, asked of what he thought of Jonah Hex after just viewing it, he replied as follows:

"It is like the insanely badass, actually awesome older brother of that annoying whiny little brat know as Wild Wild West."

Jus' sayin...go see it people.

Plus I think I am actually starting to kinda sorta understand what people see in Megan Fox....or maybe it's just the accent.

Karen Gillan is probably my favorite person on the planet right now (That accent kills me every time), next to Matt Smith. Both are sexy sexy beasts.

PS: Trowa, you seriously need to get a better search engine dude. This is the first image on my search.

No no no, you misunstanded.

I hate the fact of what the humans are in the context of the story. And the fact that they are ridiculous cartoony, way too over sss'd blobs in an otherwise near photoreal visual feast. And yah yah, they're meant to be a metaphor for the fact that humanity has become a joke and not really human anymore, whatever, I don't buy it. I think it's stupid and shouldn't exist.

3,646

(39 replies, posted in Off Topic)

No, but that is kind of a badass idea. I think i would have preferred that over what we actually got.

What can I say? My utter hatred and loathing of the fucking humans and everything about them overpowers utter joy and fanboyism for the first 25mins. It's very similar to an UP thing, the first 20-25mins are fucking amazing pieces of work, and then they just kinda turn into pieces of utter drivel afterwards (keeping in mind at all times the Pixar adjusted scale).

Having now been properly versed in the ways of Toy Story 3 (SO AAAAAWESOME), I now present my revised ranking and preferences.

  5. Incredibles

  6. Toy Story 2

  7. Toy Story 3

TS>TS2~=TS3

I'm having issue deciding between TS2 and TS3, but give it time.

I will return to this conversation once I have seen TS3, but as it stands now, TS>TS2, but only by a small margin, and I'm fairly certain most of that has to due with the fact that TS was literally THE movie I grew up on for the first 10 years of my life. But all in all, I do really enjoy TS2 and think it's really quite good.

Yeah, that was my original intent, but time just caught up with me, so I had to just leave them at the pure render stage (with a few small additions in photoshop, vignettes, pinpoint darkening/lightening etc.)
