I was born in '76 so I was 12/13 when I started watching action films, so my three as a teen were Robocop, Lethal Weapon and Die Hard. Tango & Cash, Predator and Red Heat were scattered throughout that lot too. And Commando. And Lethal Weapon 2. big_smile

The Raven isn't a very good film. Is that enough explaining? big_smile

Isn't a very good film or a bad film? I like John Cusack and am a fan of Edgar Allan Poe so it sounds like an interesting play on his work...

Well, watch it and form your own opinion on it. smile

It's a lot of fun, I'm a fan of Dante overall. He 'favourited' one of my Tweets last night, it made my day big_smile

EDIT:  The Sure Thing especially is a semi-forgotten gem that deserves a much higher position on the "Best '80s Comedies Evar" List than it tends to get.

Absolutely.

Ok, so at 6m this morning, roughly, I started to have a panic attack. I have no idea why, it may have something to do with the fact I couldn't sleep and my cat was doing my head in, who knows? Anyway, to try to calm me down, I decided to listen to this commentary and I'm glad I did. It's a fun listen and it had me laughing, which helped me. so thank you guys smile

Holy shit, the Total Film article he's responding to.

Yeah, those lists of theirs are getting worse, they should stop them now. This is how he'd fix Zodiac-

Focus on the mystery and cut down the personal lives of the people involved. It IS sad that Jake Gyllenhaal’s wife leaves him over his obsession but really, we just want to know who did it. And quickly.

Which makes me think he actually hasn't seen Zodiac.....

I wasn't aware it was even possible to buy a non-smartphone in 2013...!?

Beats me.  I bought mine in 2006.

Yeah, I've had my phone for a while too.

But it is NOT a phone. It's a pocket computer. It happens to have a chip that connects to the mobile phone network, and an app that happens to be able to interface that in such a way to make "phone calls".

But it is just stupid to actually call it a "phone". We just do it out of habit/convenience. It most certainly actually *isn't* one.

It makes phonecalls and sends texts to other phones, therefore it is a phone.

My point was more the fact that you were seemingly talking down to people who aren't as 'cool' as you for owning a 'pocket computer' whereas the fact is, some of us don't actually give a shit about that stuff and need a mobile phone for emergencies.

Oh you "texting" luddites. I'm amazed. Really? It's 2013!!?? And you make *calls*, with a measurable frequency? Wow.

Wow!

And no, I am definitely *not* under 21.

The main use for my "phone", by unit of time?

ABSOLUTE top: Podcast streamer and Audiobook listener.
After that comes email and skype, and then twitter/facebook/googling.
After that comes photography, video capture and editing.
After that comes managing the audio streaming in my house via SqueezeBox controller.
After that comes code development (yes, on the phone), remote desktoping into my home system when out.
After that comes painting / sketching.
After that comes "other"
And then... comes making a phonecall.
And last.... comes sending an actual oldschool "SMS" text message.

Ummmmmm....that is awesome for you and all other people who can afford a phone (because that is what it is, remember, put any word or letter before it you like, it's still a phone) that can do all these wonderful things but I have one with an mp3 player and a radio. That's it. And I have an actual mp3 player and radio that I use instead of it, so texting and (occasional) phonecalls it is. I use my laptop for Skype/Google Hangouts/broswing/watching/downloading and I got a tablet for Christmas that can do most of those things too, so, you see, I don't need (nor even want) a fancy smartphone.

'Texting luddites'....pffffft.

What you do on your phone is googling, facebook/twitter/g+-ing, skype-chatting [closest thing to "texting"] etc. I.e. using data services.

I don't, I can't, so I text and call. Although due to having no money for credit, these days my mobile is used as an alarm clock.

Not everyone has some sort of smart phone smile

I hope for another Doctor/Companion relationship like 10/Donna's. I hate all these "you are a mystery I must solve" arcs. I just want someone funny and tough and fairly normal.

Agreed smile

I'm sure the dynamic will change with the 12th and Clara as there is no mystery about her any more we may have that again given the 12th will have a different personality. If not, I'm sure Clara will only be around for one series and we'll get someone else anyway.

Just pointing out that "fangirls who started watching in 2005" aren't the only ones who make judgements based on how hot someone is.

Fair enough, not sure why, though, as nobody has actually denied that being the case. I'm glad they cast Capaldi, I personally don't care if they cast attractive people in any role. I don't find Catherine Tate particularly attractive but I liked her in the role of Donna. The fact that I personally find Karen Gillan attractive is merely just a 'bonus', I would still have watched series 5 and 6 regardless of who they cast as the companion.

But then I am neither a teenage girl or a horny middle aged showrunner, so what do I know?

Yeah, I'm so glad we don't cast Doctor Who actors based on appearance!

Oh...wait...

"And I thought, ‘well she’s really good. It’s just a shame she’s so wee and dumpy…When she was about to come through to the auditions I nipped out for a minute and I saw Karen walking on the corridor towards me and I realised she was 5’11, slim and gorgeous and I thought ‘Oh, oh that’ll probably work’." -Steven Moffat on the casting process for the new companion

Yeah, Moffat's a dick. What does that have to do with me thinking those people moaning about Capaldi are pathetic?
