That's awesome man! Is that stream tonight or tomorrow? You say 3/10 but I don't know if that's the recording date or the date the stream would be on tongue

While the ships were getting recommissioned, Hawkins drew some leads on a continuing pool of personnel for the fleet as well as materiel, and has taken a post as the fleet's quartermaster. Shortly before they were ready to launch, the stationmaster, Vulfilas, called Owens to his office. Owens arrived to see him in conversation with a lieutenant of the Galactic Government Navy, who called for the dispersal of everyone at the station under threat of strike. Vulfilas asked Owens (introduced as "My head of security") if the forces at the station could take on a standard frontier border patrol fleet, to which Owens answered yes. To stack the odds in theor favor, Owens took the lieutenant prisoner, as well as his contingent of three guards and a pilot. (This reminds me, your brig is officially overflowing now.)

Two cruisers and seven frigates dropped in to assault the station; this was expected. What was unexpected was the GGV Aquitaine, a heavily armed and armored Government battleship. The Event Horizon and the Sunry took out the smaller cruiser and its accompaniment of smaller frigates, with the Sunry taking heavy damage; the larger enemy cruiser and its larger frigates took out the other more combat capable frigate on Vulfilas' side, damaged the Spirit of the Drill, and a single shot from the Aquitaine obliterated the Sherenneby, Vulfilas' flagship. Owens and Vulfilas called for a retreat immediately after some escape pod recovery (the Spirit of the Drill having recovered Vulfilas' escape pod); freighters that had been hanging near the station were able to evacuate almost everyone aboard.

Darius recommended an unnamed pirate world to effect repairs. Vulfilas was delivered to his own rally point, and the crew then set down to again affect repairs on the two frigates. Turns out battleships are no joke.

While most of the crew was ashore, Owens was in orbit on the Event Horizon when the CV Grassy Knoll entered the system. Praising Owens for his continued work against the Government, and for the job they did attempting to defend Vulfilas' holdings, the two met aboard the Event Horizon; the details of this meeting are known only to the two of them, as of now, and it is up to Owens to parse the events and guide the fleet forward.

The Oscars are kind of a joke. It's an elite class of people that have specific tastes in movies and I don't buy into the fiction that the general public should give a shit what they think. A lot of you guys like the kinds of movies that the Academy does, and that's fine, but I and many others do not.

Am I glad that Jungle Book got VFX? Quite. But it's still a party that Hollywood throws for itself that it tells everybody else they should care about.

Hey all, I realized that we've been doing MAD combat slightly wrong. Frigates should be harder to hit, so you get a -1 to each die on targeting. Battleships would be easier, so you get a +1 to each. Not saying we're going into combat tonight but it's good to know. /foolingnobody

I've updated the Player's Guide with a few more standard ships and I think a couple of other fixes, tweaks and rules we've come up with along the way (namely, personal armor). It can be found in the same folder as before: https://1drv.ms/f/s!Asx5s_QiXO2GkbgzFutUODUxbPVh5w

Anton: You can. It's a very tough line to toe and you feel of you err too far on the side of caution, some of the people you hire on, once they find out the true nature of the post, will defect and could be a liability. (Write as well as you like but if they take it at face value, that's not necessarily your fault.) Let me know if you'd rather err on the side of caution or on an honest telling of the position.

Saanvi: "I don't deal in favors, I deal in people." She's a lot less sweet on this side of the law. By the end of your meeting with her you're certain that if you were still in the military you would have enough material to put her away for five lifetimes. She mentions the possibility of deferred payment, assuming that the hired help is to get you money in the first place, and is willing to offer a loan on her services. Naturally, it's high-interest.

A smuggler at the station owns an old Broadsword troop transport. His rate is low, since you're not going through anywhere fortified, just the jump gate system. Hawkins turns out his pockets and shakes out the couch cushions, and manages to get it together. He heads out with his away team - a couple original crew and a few of the mercenaries.

You give Anton a call. You haven't kept in close enough touch that he knew you were on a thought-to-be-destroyed ship (though news and rumors of the Ticonderoga's return are spreading quickly), so there's no uncomfortable, "I thought you were dead!" He's only a little surprised that you're no longer with the military, and marvels that crusty ol' Owens is working on recruiting. Thought you liked stuff you could get away with smacking with a wrench; obviously doesn't know how the mutiny went down. He asks you to provide a short description and mission statement of your group that he can use while pitching it during recruiting.

Saanvi doesn't recognize you by name nor reputation, and you decide to keep your military background out of sight for now. Frankly she doesn't ask many questions at all - just how many people and where should she send them. She also notes a somewhat hefty finder's fee - it's clear that she's charging with both hands to maximize profits.

Hawkins meanwhile found a good lead on an old industrial world and would like to head out there. None of the ships in the fleet are ready to fly quite yet, so you'd be chartering a ride from someone else at the station. There are plenty of options.

Saw The Great Wall. Doesn't offer as many opportunities for such disturbing images, but I really enjoyed it nonetheless. I din't watch enough Chinese cinema to say that it definitely felt like a Chinese film vs. a Western one but it definitely had its moments. (I'm aware it's a Chinese production but I'm curious how much, if at all, it was Westernized in shooting.)

Because of how things may shake out for BDA, I'll NPC him a bit through here.

Hawkins has a few ideas; in searching for different conspiracy groups for the Ticonderoga disappearance, I found some less-whackjob groups that might be worth surreptitiously checking out that might be good for recruitment bases.

As for you, make up a couple of contacts and tell me who they are. (Informal version of Shadowrun's contact thing here.) Then I'll see what they can get for you.

Daaaang, very nice dude.

Planning on going ahead with this Sunday. BDA may not be able to make it but I've talked with him already and will be NPCing his character if need be. Please let me know if you're able to join, and check on those that don't check the forum too much.

Alright Shadow, looks like just you. Put together a plan and I'll have you make a few rolls.

My wife continued my Miyazaki education last night and I watched Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away. (We got a Blu-Ray set during an Amazon Prime Day last year and so far all we'd watched was Princess Mononoke.

I am definitely enjoying these. Plot structure doesn't quite do what you think it will at the start, particularly in Spirited Away, but there's always mysteries you're trying to unravel. Very active watching.

For the record, participation in this thread will get you Rep, and by the next session I'll have some sort of conversion chart to turn Rep into character stats, as opposed to just being able to use it to upgrade your ship.

No, intelligence, like persuasion.

Sounds reasonable. What are some ways you want to try recruiting?

I'm gonna give this a bump. Enjoyed it when it was posted, and when we were sharing stuff on stream a few weeks ago Faldor posted it again to my continue enjoyment.

Trawling through old Creation threads, still think this has potential. After Hyacinth, you want to powwow and see if we can expand on the idea? In the prototyping stages it can still be played with the Betrayal tile set, making playtesting relatively easy.

He just posted on Twitter last night for the first time since then. I sorta bounced with joy.

Hey all. With tomorrow being the Super Bowl, people having plans (related or unrelated), and me being gone next week, we're going to have another few weeks off from playing live. So let's do this.

You guys come up with a plan. What do you want to do? Where do you want to go? In the coming week, I'll be able to answer questions that you would need to figuring things out. You'll make a roadmap for your fleet and start acting like military officers, getting ahead of the game and taking control, instead of always being reactionary.

It will take a month for the Sunry to be fully recommissioned, and another week per ship after that for repairs to the Event Horizon and Spirit of the Drill. You have a month and a half to make a game plan.

Pop in when you can, make sure you let people know that don't visit the forums too often. I leave town next Saturday, and will be available until then to get you background info. I return the following Friday and can let you know then or Saturday the results of any fact-finding missions you try to undertake.

Yup - any small mission that *should* go off without a hitch, I'll have you do a simple skill roll on. Then when I get back I can get my materials together and have a well planned session, for once.

Well? Get planning!

No problem, BDA also ducked out. I'll post later tonight or tomorrow with something a bit different, hopefully you guys will like it.

The Spirit of the Drill, captained by Darius, attacked Sampo Orbital and the frigate stationed around it, the GGV Alteria, while the Event Horizon attacked the jump gate control station and its frigate, the GGV Sunry. Disabling the Sunry with relative ease, Michael Betrüger was sent over to lead the capture team while boarding parties took control of the station. The Sunry was captured, Betrüger assuming command after exemplary leadership of the boarding team, and towed away from the jump gate, with Vertigo and Rope squadrons left on patrol. Darius reported success against the orbital station, though made no attempts to capture the frigate.

Two cargo vessels and two frigates arrived through the jump gate, carrying personal firearms. The Event Horizon collected its fighters then met the two frigates in combat, while the freighters continued on. Both frigates were disabled, and Darius told the freighters to dock and hand over their cargo. After stuffing the cargo holds, they jumped out to a Deep Space Drydock. They sold their goods, arranged for the Sunry to be recommissioned, and to effect repairs on both ships. They are once again lacking working capital but now have a sizable fleet.

Reminder! See you guys tomorrow night.

The crew decided a bit of independent piracy would be in order to establish themselves before seeking out the Coalition, or to give themselves a bit of a bargaining chip, so they sought out an out of the way Government station being constructed - the orbital station around Sampo, a new Finnish colony world. They were recognized while taking the Jump Gate system out there, and at the penultimate system were met by two frigates as they came out of the gate. They immediately destroyed one, then took the other (Spirit of the Drill) for Darius and his crew. They jumped to the last system, out of the way where they couldn't be found, to effect some field repairs and get new crew members integrated. They made a Plan...
