For a second there I thought they were going to have a topic on the show "Glee" and that made me concerned, on a number of levels.

Let's see...

-Favorite Holiday movies or recommendations by the panelists
-Nolan and Insterllar Art Director Award http://www.imdb.com/news/ni58073045?ref_=hm_nw_tp1 things
-Favorite stunt work things
-Favorite sports teams wink

Um, go, discuss

I have no idea what's going on, so here:
holden

Also, even though I don't know what is going on, I am glad that we have people here who do know. Thank you for putting up with us ignorant normal folk.

The thing that puzzles me about that comic is the ship at right doesn't resemble any Star Wars vehicle that I can think of, but does look very much like an Eagle from Space 1999.

It's the Rebel Transport toy - you could remove the front to expose the cockpit. Needless to say, it was not to scale!

I have one of those! Thanks, red, for posting the picture. I wanted to, but time escaped me smile

Also, I love the new saber design, personally. It gives it a little more of an aged and heavy feel (if that makes sense) in a way that I think Lucas was thinking of originally. It could be venting, or it could be an actual hand guard to, you know, protect the hand from the blade. That would be a good thing wink

I think it is a lot of fun, and gives me hope for the type of tone that Abrams will bring to the next film.

Beyond that, there is not enough for me to go, "LOVE IT!" or "HATE IT!"

I will leave the hatred and hyperbole to the rest of the Interwebs big_smile

Trouble with Tribbles is a blast, and I think a lot of fun. Even if they don't get in to TOS specifically, I think that it would be some fun for them smile

As a child I didn't know any better big_smile Only some years later did I realize that Seasons 1 & 2 were bad.

This is a fair point, and I also was completely used to TOS style, with the bright colors and acting style. The one episode I saw from TNG early on was so bizarre and nonsensical to me that I simply shut off from it. I didn't really get back in to it until one of my best friends in middle school showed it to me.

I really enjoyed "All Good Things" as well as several of the films.

I enjoyed the appearance of Hayden's ghost and the insane amount of saber blades  big_smile

I started with TOS, watching recorded episodes on VHS, so I'm probably the wrong person to ask wink

If you do TOS, do things like "Balance of Terror," "Corbomite Maneuver," "The Man Trap" and/or "Charlie X" to introduce the original cast. I think I rewatched Balance of Terror many times over when I was about 12. If they show interest, then other episodes can be shown.

Movies is like bullet3 said, and certainly a good way to test the waters is Wrath of Khan. Not really sure how to introduce TNG, but anything after season 3 worked for me-I can't remember which one was my hook. Certainly not season 1 hmm

Let's see, 12. Lot of Disney, won't lie. There is a fun film called Baby's Day Out that I enjoyed thoroughly with my parents. Star Wars, whenever my mom would let me sit down for 2 plus hours to watch it.

Others (in no particular order or significance)

Cool Runnings

Star Trek IV

Ten Commandments

Back to the Future

The Mask

Carpool

Can't thing of any others right now.

I agree, because I feel that the Hobbit, as a book, should not have been made in to a film, and definitely not three films. It is a bit too stretched out for a book that length. Honestly, unlike LOTR which was informed by all the different background history Professor Tolkien had created, the Hobbit started out more simply. I'm fine with that, and the film adaptation would have worked fine if it had come before LOTR.

However, when I separate it from the book and the LOTR saga (different tone, and different feel, which I would expect) I find it to be very enjoyable. Yes, it tries to reference LOTR too much, with Legolas, Frodo, and other nods that really are unnecessary, from a strict adaptation sense. But, I will credit them giving personality to 12 Dwarves who were really little more than rhyming names in the original story.

I agree that Jackson is trying to out do Jackson and it does a disservice to both LOTR and the Hobbit because neither, as films, are allowed to stand up on their own. But, that being said, I find them enjoyable, a lot of fun, a bit goofy in places, and very serious in other places.

I'll not comment on CGI because that really isn't something that bothers. Sure, there are shots that stand out to me, or I would not have done, but I can say that about ANY movie. Instead, I just enjoy the ride, and it is a fun ride for me. The CGI is just a tool used to get me there. Seeing as how I just had my imagination to get me through my first read of LOTR, I am appreciative of the visuals, probably more so than I should be wink

I agree that Jackson tried to outdo himself, but he also let himself have a bit more fun in this one too. It still feels like a character piece, around which Bilbo and Thorin are building towards the climax. I also have a tendency to separate the Hobbit from LOTR because I treat them as two different stories, not a large cohesive epic.

I'm wondering how many people would even make the connection between the two? Not out of any disrespect to the material, but just as a matter of impact of both iterations.

Well, I appreciate the candor here.

Also, I felt the same way about Dresden Files, but Butcher let the showrunners do their thing, and treats as a different universe than his book series. At least he has that buffer zone.

Carry on, people smile

Just came up with a new one, based upon discussion about Indy 4:

The Holy Grail made Indy immortal (not eternally young-let's distinguish smile ) and was never in any real danger in Crystal Skull. It also explains his kind of cavalier attitude and some other plot holes.

In the next installment, he becomes a all powerful being living on Mars, kicking off "Saucermen from Mars"

I like take 3 the best for intonation and the emotional content: you're giving an order with the right firmness to help settle her down and focus. I'd say go louder though, your waveform looks okay (~minus-six dB) so be sure not to overpower your mic, but your breath is almost as loud as your voice. Back off a few inches and project more...like a concerned father or uncle. And of course, "Straya," in place of "Butterfly."

"MTFBWY":
Take 2. Same thing, it sounds like a caring superior. No need to do the accent like in #3, just be you.

Very clean audio all around though, did you process it for noise? What are you using equipment wise?

Back on the Compositing front:

Here's a better mock-up of the spliced Panorama comp as I imagine it. It's about 10 sec longer than in Owen's cut, but there's plenty of fat in there. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/29628015/Main.mp4

Not sure if you will believe this, but I didn't do any post work. I used a USB headset microphone, and recorded in Audacity. I forgot to get the rate or quality. Glad that worked out.

For the second pass through, I will use a USB microphone, to allow some distance from me to the mic. That will also let me get louder too.

I've downloaded them Fireproof. I won't be able to listen to it until tonight, so I hope you caught the change...and didn't speak her name as "Butterfly"... hmm  (Although, if that's his pet name for her how cute would that be? Way better than "Grasshopper.")

I want to open this up for discussion: as currently cut, our main establishing scene is 3 or 4 shots: A. Straya Enters, B. cut to Probe Droid, C. Straya Exits & D. Probe Droid backtracks. Zarban's intent was to have that as a single long take, and in my mind we can make that work in the comp. We are already doing so much with these shots (matte painting, rotoscope around Straya & the stone wall as needed, CGI Droid & camera tracking of two Straya takes) that to combine these shots is not much more effort and would make this the excellent one-er (Oner? Wonner? 1er?) that was planned.

So tell me: am I mad, or just insane?

There's probably others that my brain is blocking out. I've learned as of late that I'm more emotionally-invested in the fate of animals than humans in movies.

Agree on most of your list, but the Baby Mine in Dumbo impacts me pretty hard.

Anything involving the loss of a child, either lost or the threat of death etc, or the loss of a parent will make me sob buckets.

Heck, I just watched an old episode of Law and Order: SVU and one of the main's wife's was in a car accident and went in to labor due to the trauma, and so both mother and child were in danger. Yep, the tears came.

End of Monsters Inc for sure.

Also, several moments in films, such as the new Trek films at the beginning, end of Cool Runnings, among others off the top of my head.

Indeed, save for the "having no interest in seeing." More like, "don't have the money to spare right now" to see aspect.

Also, I suffer from this weird attitude that the more people say it is good, the more I don't want to see it. But, as I said, I'm weird.

Hello fellow writers,

my wife and I are looking to supplement our income through at home work due to medical issues. Are there any places to connect to that pay for writing? I know there are a lot of scams out there, as well as that there is not much that will pay a lot, but anything helps.
