The ends of Monsters Inc. and Lilo and Stitch. And that was before I had a little girl of my own.

Yep it's an offer if you want it. Don't get me started on the dreadful state of the peer review system...
I would volunteer as tribute, but I warn you that I hate reading papers. I aspire to be the sort of person that actually likes reading papers, but I am not that person. They're just largely so....barren of humanity. I think it's a language thing. It's science people! It won't be offended! Lighten up!
So if I like your paper, that might be a bad sign...or maybe a good one?
I just remembered the Time Traveller's Cheat Sheet.
My advice would be to look at a 101 awesome science tricks for kids type book and see if anything looks useful. Also research on Tesla, Edison, Newton, DaVinci... Certainly steam engines and probably some electricity generation could be made with sufficient manufacturing skills. A lot of it depends on the available materials. Presumably they would have copper.
Definitely calculations relating to navigation and projectile motion could be done. That could give someone a distinct advantage in some scenarios.
There is also medical stuff like ibuprofen from willow bark or penicillin from bread mould.
More details on Entertainment Weekly, indicating that they're considering three models.
Plepler ran down three potential distribution models for the streaming service.
The first is to sell the online-only service through HBO’s existing cable providers. (For example, if you have broadband service through Time Warner or Comcast and want the network’s streaming service, you would be able to purchase the online service without having any cable channels.)
The second is to distribute the service via new partners like Amazon, Google or Microsoft.
The third method would be to attempt the Netflix model, whereby HBO markets its streaming service direct to consumers and skips the middlemen.
Is HBO Go currently a USA only thing? I've never even looked into it.
Dragging this up because HBO has decided to start offering stand-alone HBO GO next year. Business models are changing.

No price listed as of yet. I expect it to be well above Netflix's sub-$10 range.
I love everything about that Dorkman Ghostbusters picture. It's fantastic.
And I'm rooting for you Mike. It's going to be a long road, but from what I see you have the support of some mighty fine people.
edit: when non-scientists ask me what I do, I say "biology". but if I'm feeling particularly verbose, I answer "ecology".
I usually say 'Surveys, the math parts'.
The other awkward question is how I met my husband (Spiff). Depending on the audience it's either 'uh, mutual friends' or 'making a Star Wars lightsaber fight for an online competition'.
I hate trying to describe my job. I work on surveys, some of which people might have heard of, but most of my day is programming esoteric methodological stuff that doesn't simplify easily. Then they ask me if I know 'so and so' who also works where I work. And I never do.
Pretty sure it's a common experience.
Also, I have a friend who works in biochemistry. Specifically on those viruses used to insert new DNA sequences. On his first day he was told that everyone gets a cough for about a week when they start, but there are no lasting consequences. As far as they know.
Nicely filmed, but I have a sudden urge to scrub my bathtub from top to bottom.
I have been secretly hoping that LatinAlice would join in.
Anyone have suggestions for future songs?
- Yay bass!
- Reverb is awesome!
- This sounds way better with multiple voices
- Oh god I am so flat and off tempo, must practice
- Moar singing!
I love the flashlight on a boom.
They definitely messed with the pitch.
And I just learned the minions were voiced by the directors. Huh.
Tucaliropotatolikalimanomalinaco-DAMN.
Yep. I had to do just the words and rhythm reeeeeeally slowly a bunch of times. I still messed up a Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-na-na in the tenor part. Two na's per banana...
For this round I'm thinking just audio, but all the cool kids are doing video so maybe next time.
I mostly want to figure out if the click track and music is enough to keep everyone synchronized. Can someone(s) try recording one of the parts and posting it? Here is a Google Drive Folder for uploads. Or dropbox or whatever.
Hey Teague, you should put the YouTube videos as public on a FIYH channel with preroll ads. Monetize! You could make dozens of dollars!
Check Google drive.
All the forum group project and skill database stuff makes me want to make something. Any other singers out there interested in singing some acapella?
To see if it would work, I thought we could try something relatively easy: Banana - The Minions Song
The linked page has a score for the sight readers and audio for the learn-by-ear folk. I put together an Audacity file with a click track (90bpm) and recorded the four parts myself but I'd like to see if we can replace parts with other people.
Audacity Project and Files (85mb .zip)
Mp3s for the curious:
Bass (some is 8va due to being not remotely a bass)
Tenor
Alto
Soprano
All Together Now
Also accepting advice on improving recording quality.
P.S. I'll be away-from-internet all next week including both weekends, so don't expect any updates from me before then.
If I cross-border shopped I wouldn't get the sweet bilingual packaging! /s
Doc Sub, I've tucked this away until I've at least watched Season 2, thanks.
Will any of these on Flickr do? CC licence, commercial use and modifications allowed.
Not in Canada
What's the spoiler range on the podcast? I'd like to listen but I've only seen Season 1. I'll see Season 2 when it's out on Blu-Ray, and Season 3 is starting soon (if you don't count the leaked spanish episodes...).
I would volunteer to grunt work some lightsabers but I expect the few frames I would be able to complete plus the pain of interfacing CS3 with whatever Teague uses wouldn't be worth it.
If Alex needs some female vocals for the music I can do that.
