Hadn't heard of this movie, but it came up on Netflix and the Cronenberg part of it intrigued me.
It follows Parker (Pattinson), a crazy rich CEO in his limo trying to get across town to get a haircut (seriously, 80% of the movie takes place in a limo).  The president's in town, there's a funeral, and Occupy Wall street type riots that cause massive delays getting anywhere.
The movie is really well shot and has a cold, removed feel (even in super tight scenes within the limo). Pretty much every line is delivered with zero emotion...so i really have no idea if Pattinson can act, but he fit the role well.
However, three's just not much there there.  The story just isn't all that interesting.

Here's a video I made for one of the songs on my album I shared a while back.  I created the song before the video (obviously), so I had to go back and try to sync the video to match...not perfect, but I'm pretty happy with how  it turned out.

It's essentially a play that takes place within a restaurant.
Hadn't seen this one since college, what a gorgeous movie, however, it's pretty damn uncomfortable.
I really don't know anything about the director, but I'm curious to check out his other stuff.
Also, all the characters clothes change color, depending on what room they're in (red for dining room, green for the kitchen)...except the main character, who always wears the same brown suit.
I'm sure there's a ton to unpack in this movie, but I haven't spent enough time thinking about it...still reeling from the end.

I feel like this might have been suggested before, but can't remember.

I'd love an intermission/grab bag discussion about trailers.  best/worst, reasons they work, why they don't, the editing of them, the use of music, those weird trailers that have clips from the film that aren't in the movie, how much control directors have over them, etc. I'd be fascinated to hear what you guys think.

I've long had a theory that the more variations on a trailer I see, the worse that movie is (comedies specifically).   However,  I can't say for sure that's still the case because I actively try and avoid them...I've been burned too many times.

Decided to go back and watch Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

I enjoyed it.  It has a certain cheese element, but I didn't have a problem with that.  As I was watching it, I couldn't help but think of The Black Hole, and even wondered if it was the same director.  It turns out they both came out the same year, so the similar feel makes sense.

I was going to jump over to 3 next, but neither prime nor netflix have it.  So i started on 5...i've only seen the first few minutes of it and I can't decide if Kirk free climbing El Capitan is fantastically hilarious, or just just plain dumb.  Either way, I kept watching (until I passed out).  i guess i'll see where it goes.

Just watched Star Trek 2 and 4.  aside from the reboot, I hadn't actually ever seen any of them...plus, i'm a sucker for any movie taking place in SF.

good stuff.  now, the question is....do i start checking out the odd numbered ones?

So i'm currently attempting to teach myself Premiere by making videos for the album I put together last year.  I have two things working in my favor...the album is short (28 minutes) as are the songs (2-3 minutes each).  I've linked the songs and probably the album before..i think i even put an early video on here.

anywho, i've got a video for my song based on Reggie Watts TED speech.  It's mostly there, but it's not quite finished.

If anyone's interested in providing some feedback, i'd be happy to email some of you a link.

The thing that comes closest to the feel of that book, imo, was The Constant, from Lost.  Granted, it may have just been because it was time travel and Desmond was in the military, but it sure seem to capture that vibe.
unlrelated, but the editing of that episode was so frickin' cool...loved how it start with long scenes, then gradually sped up the cuts until the frantic end scene.

man that was good.  i had a bunch of stuff i should have been doing just now, but no...Teague and his story of the little post that did totally sucked me in.

great story, glad everything turned out alright.

(and damn i wish he'd recorded that alarm soundbite)

This is my kinda thread.

I'd love another (17 or so) podcasts talking about scoring and soundtracks.  it's obviously harder to do, but it might be interesting to cover an entire movie and breakdown the scoring and how it evolves and changes over the film....when themes repeat and how it relates to the action on screen.

also....where can i find this amazing runway?  i'd love to see someone crunch the numbers on it, but that thing had to have been at least 10 miles long, probably closer to 15.  hilarious, yet i just don't care.

saw this on Saturday morning (no joke, they started at 9:30 and played every 45 minutes until the end of the day).

this movie is so perfectly stupid that I'd gladly go see it again.  It's exactly the kind of popcorn flick you'd want and should expect.   It was loud, it was bright, it was sexy, and it was fun.

curious who else saw it because there are a couple scenes that were LOL ridiculous and i'd love to talk about it.

also, i didn't put this in reviews because my review would have basically been "YES!"

there's a chance these movies might never stop getting made.

fantastic review.. watched the movie last night and loved it.  however, the one thing you didn't mention was the score.  Johnny Greenwood (radiohead) did an amazing job of finding the perfect blend of dark and optimistic...often at the same time.  his score was spooky and really added to the movie.

Joaquin Phoenix was phenomenal in this movie. he looked terrible, his posture was awful, and in every scene it looked like he was one moment away from a total break (but unclear if it would be into a pool of tears, or run around beating the crap out of people).

the scene of Joaquin and Hoffman in jail was a brilliant way of showing their two personalities.  Freddie was kicking and jerking around in the cell, while Hoffman was calmly taking a leak.

So work decided to block me from this new url for some reason..but now i'm back (hooray).

not sure if it's been resolved, yet, but i'm more than happy to help out with audio editing.

Nice work Teague, really cool stuff.

I've been messing around with trying to score recently and I'd love to hear more about how you went about it.  I'm really curious how you approached writing to specific cues and if you had to change the timing or patterns in order to make things work.

Just finished Serling: The Rise and Twilight of TV's Last Angry Man.  Interesting book...i wished it'd focused more on the Twilight Zone years, but it was more of a straight ahead biography.  He wrote 92 of the 156 episodes of that show...unreal.  the dude was a machine.  smoked 4 packs a day...also unreal.

Rod Serling, Gary Larson, and Bill Watterson pretty much shaped me into the odd person that i've turned into.

Invid - nice Disorderlies reference.  Probably the Fat Boys finest film work to date.

also, this ep doesn't actually show up in the itunes feed for me.  not sure if that happened with anyone else.
