This is currently on telly. When the alien invasion comes, and they're deciding if our species should live or die, this film will be the thing which damns us.

Is it bigger than a bread box?

Zarban, let us guess what you've got in your secret place.

Is it bigger than a bread box?

[edit] In my head this was hilarious. On reflection it's just fucking weird.[/edit]

Now that Dredd is released on iTunes here, I've just seen it, and enjoyed the fuck out of it.

I loved that it was pretty true to my interpretation of Dredd from reading 2000 AD, but it would have benefitted from making Anderson's psi ability a little more offensive. The link between it, and primary weapon, could have been clearer.

On a technical note, is it just me that's really bothered by digital blood spatter when it's not colour balanced correctly? It was distracting to watch the action sequences - in Megacity, people seem to be full of over saturated, slightly luminous liquid.

Anyway, what about a low-budget fest, starting with Hobo with a Shotgun.

Holden, could we make the sarcasm tag more obvious? Maybe some kind of marquee effect?

Ok. Three pages into the second thread,  NO MORE COMMENTARY SUGGESTIONS. There are already more movies listed than can ever be watched - it's like an infinite Netflix queue where people just keep adding crap 80's action films.

Oh that thing! The books all tend to blur into each other. Which one is basically all sand politics?

After reading the books, I can only assume the TV show spends 4 seasons threatening that "Winter is coming", despite everyone being up to their necks in snow. I'm also going to assume that season 3 is a bit of a rambling mess, which focuses on the least interesting characters.

Never seen an episode.

You know, I think Fred Raskin did a hell of a job, and I think the ride to Candyland sequence was something Quentin would have resisted cutting too much from. It's the first time we see the characters develop from their initial presentation.

  Show
Django becomes a hard-arse, and Dr. Schultz isn't as cold and detached as he'd like to make out he is.

But there are lots of little beats that could have been removed, and I'm glad they weren't.

How is there not a thread about Django?

Maggot and I finally caught this in cinemas - it's firmly entrenched as one of my favourite films of the last 12 months. Saw what you will about Tarantino, but when he brings his A-game, magic happens on screen.

I deeply loved that, as with Inglorious Bastards, he takes a subject which could easily be mired in sullen reflection and makes it darkly funny. His set ups are paid off, the action is frenetic but never confusing, the violence is often hilarious, and his characters are wonderful to spend time with.

While there could have been some tighter editing, and I'm sure an argument could be made that certain sections should be shorter, I never felt the films length. In fact I revelled in the time Tarantino has taken to enjoy the world, characters, and dialogue, and believe cutting more from the film would have lessened my enjoyment of all three.

4.5 out if 5.

Zarban is politik.

Well, we could all book flights to Norway to play a video game...

Apparently it can be played over the net.

<edit>A quick test of the downloadable demo indicates the game is happy running multiple instances. Someone could run the server, and also crew one of the positions.</edit>

Lamer has good taste.

I want to play.

This is actually just the teaser for the "Commentary X Kickstarter".

I would add Old Boy, Animal Kingdom, and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert to this list. What would the panel think of focusing on film by country for a little while - maybe expose Teague to Korean Cinema, for example.

It's one of the few things I've seen that would give the choral experience to a hearing impaired audience. Loved it.
