Stargate coming back to life with film trilogy reboot
Didn't think I'd hear of this again. I'm very skeptical.
Yes, I just noticed that. Moving it.
I've thought about that, but I don't see how Jesse could possibly find out, unless Walt rubbed it in his face. I think it's never meant to be more than a way at that time to show us what Walt was becoming.
If I tried anywhere in that range, I'd just get everything blown out. Screw you light pollution!
Well, you know. Cities do that. I'm going back to Montpellier this sunday, and I know I won't be seeing the sky for a painfully long time.
Once I get some new glass for my 5D MkII, I might get on with this kind of stuff too, haven't done it in awhile.
Please do. You have access to some crazy landscapes and I'd wager that you can easily find amazing skies without too much trouble.
Also, northern lights are coming to you. Go get'em.
Thank you Tom. No, I don't have the 60Da (and quite frankly I believe it to be a big rip off which will only sell with people who don't know much about astrophotography).
The 60D is actually quite good at managing noise, but post-processing also helped a lot.
I don't think his character was let down by the writers. In the past few seasons, he's mostly been a way to show us what Walt has become (I think the times I hate him the most is when he so obnoxiously lies to Jesse). But I really believe they have something great in store for him (as hinted last episode) and he'll have a good payoff.
You never know. Anyway: 30s, f/2.8, 1600 ISO. No filters.
A tripod and a camera (Canon EOS 60D).
For the first two pictures, I used the Ultra Wide Angle lens I bought recently, a Tokina 11-16mm F/2.8 lens. It's amazing.
A few days ago, I went with a few friends to a big mountain not too far from here and spent the whole night up there watching the sky with a telescope and taking pictures of it. Holy hell, the sky was awesome.
Mostly, I shot some timelapses, which I intend to release in a single video, along with the other few timelapses I have in store. Here are a few astrophotography shots I made during the night, though.
I don't have a proper shot of the Milky Way at the beginning of the night, when it's the most interesting (galactic core) - I was shooting at timelapse of it at that time, and while the shots will still be nice as a timelapse, I had to go to town on the post-processing because light pollution was still a pain in the ass around the horizon, even up there.
So, this is the Milky Way around the constellations Cygnus and Cassiopeia at 5:30 in the morning. Nice touch: you can see the Andromeda Galaxy in the top left-hand corner. The bright region at the top is the Double Cluster in Perseus.
I'm very happy with this one, mostly because it's only after shooting it that I found out what was on it.
The white glow starting toward the antennas and crossing the Milky Way is the zodiacal light. It's sunlight scattered by dust in the solar system. I had never seen it before; I actually thought you could only see it with the best skies on Earth, like in the Atacama Desert or something.
The Moon is seen here bathed in earthshine - reflection of sunlight from the Earth.
If you'd like to see the other pictures I made that night: A Night atop the Lure Mountain.
I just want to say that Aaron Paul is an amazing actor (so are many actors in the show, granted). Jesse looks awfully empty in these last few episodes. Such dead eyes.
I'll never get tired of this one.
Guys, you guys. As you may know, the NASA has a satellite called SDO (Sun Dynamics Observatory) constantly looking at the sun and taking pretty pictures of it. The official website even allows you to watch a video of the Sun, choosing start and end dates.
Anyway. At the Astronomy Center we have a special telescope which allows us to look at the Sun's chromosphere and its prominences, and we've seen some awesome things lately. I downloaded a video of the Sun's last three days as seen by SDO, and holy shit.
Just look at that sexy mass ejection at the end, bottom right. The Sun's activity is at its peak this year, but we don't see that kind of things every few days.
I have missed this show so much. Holding my breath all the way through. As Mike said on Twitter, it feels good to await something with high expectations, and not be disappointed. This ending is going to be huge.
I like what Rob and Kyle said about Walt. It's exactly how I feel about him. During the last seasons, we gradually became estranged from him. He's no longer the guy we're following and hoping for, but the man we're scared of and don't know anymore. When he was trying to convince Jesse he didn't kill Mike, I stared in awe at his lying face. I wanted to believe him and forget the past for a moment, buying into this good side of him and yet, knowing the truth, telling myself what a piece of shit this bastard is. Bryan Cranston truly is the man.
Titanic - directed by Michael Bay
Well, I don't know about all that, but...
Also:
The excitement. IT'S UNBEARABLE.
Frank Oz looks like Tobias Fünke in the last picture. That makes it wrong on many levels.
Yes, it's simply amazing what this school is capable of. Some former students have had the opportunity to work on big movies thanks to this. The Prometheus itself was designed by a guy from ArtFx. Makes you dream a bit.
One year, teams of four/five, sometimes six people. Freelance students (students who aren't part of a specific team) help the others. The school basically becomes a studio for the year for them.
The students within the team are everything in the production: directors, artists, etc. They schedule the whole production process for the year, usually shoot during autumn and spend the rest of the year editing and post-processing everything.
Year one focuses on making the students' culture and basic skills grow: photography, sculpture, art history, drawing, etc.
Year two's main course is 3D. I learned to use Maya and did some awesome projects. Some introduction to animation and After Effects too, a short movie (all practical, no VFX), and the usual (more photography, drawing and stuff).
In third year, you have to choose between three (soon four) specializations: VFX (as in compositing and stuff), 3D CGI, and animation. I chose VFX, that's what I'm in it for. During the last two years, students tend to specialize themselves even more: matte painters, compositing artists, etc.
All these films are presented in June to a jury composed of various people representing studios (we got MPC, Double Negative and stuff- mainly studios from the London area, or french).
And, yeah. The results are amazing. ArtFx is growing more popular every year. Last year, every single student was hired by a studio less than three weeks after the jury.
I am currently a student at a private school which specializes in VFX. Its four year course includes a final year which focuses on making a short movie - live or full CGI. I still have two years to go; I'm like a baby.
This year's short movies are currently being released one by one. I figured you guys might like to check them out. I'll also post links to older projects I personally loved - some gems were made. No pressure there for me.

Thousandth Street
Basically, this is one big tribute to Blade Runner. The picture looks fantastic, and the movie's slow progression creates an interesting atmosphere.
Amasia
Matte painting freaks, you're going to love this one. It's a contemplative movie, with some incredible shots. Some astronomy stuff in it too - it pretty much pushes all my buttons.

Get Wild
How about going back to some 60's good old style? A fun musical movie.
Terraform
A mother tells his child how mankind conquered Mars. Incredible space shots.
Voile Noir (Blackout)
You like planes? Here ya go.
Interesting. I generally trust them as far as the casting goes (except for Daario; I don't like how they made him look in the show).
Squiggly, while it may be true for other shows/movies, I have to side with Doctor Sub' on this one, being a great fan of the show too - it's all about Walter White. It's all about his transformation. His face and attitude in this poster say everything a poster about this show should.
It reminds me of the first time I show a poster for BB's season 4 :
I thought, holy shit. Even after seeing the three previous seasons, it hit me in the face. Bryan Cranston has a level of badassness I would never have suspected before.
(by the way, the title Remember Me Name makes me start to seriously wonder what the hell is in stock for us in this show ending)
EDIT: your version is rather cool too.
I finally decided to set things straight and start reading The Lord of the Rings. I'm currently finishing the last few chapters of The Fellowship of the Ring.
These books should have been hard to read, at least according to what people have been telling me. Well they're not. I actually find Tolkien's writing style sometimes easier to read than, say, George R. R. Martin's.
I was told that I'd have to go through 20 pages of describing pipe-weed, and read whole chapters about families with so many names you can't remember a third of them. My guess is that the people who told me that probably never actually opened Tolkien's novels. That, or reading the A Song of Ice and Fire books turned out to be a good training.
In any case, I'm enjoying this very much. And when I'm done - and after I've read The Hobbit too, I'll happily go dive into the bluray boxset of Jackson's movies. I haven't seen them in a while now.
