BDA, it just boils down to practice.  SamJack's whole thing is that with experience you learn to get more of what you need and not ammunition for endless what if scenario's.

I did the Doc Challenge about 6 years ago and had a lot of fun with it. This year I want to do it again, and am asking for volunteers from anyone LA based (or beyond, if the work is capable of being farmed out).

What is the Doc Challenge?  It's a 5 day film festival but unlike other film contests, it is 100% for documentaries only.  More info here:  http://docchallenge.org/News/save-the-d … -back.html

I will Produce, Direct, and do some of the Editing, but we'll need plenty of warm bodies for camera, grip, score, narration (possibly), titling, craft, PA's, and the like.  Registration opens soon and the dates are in March as noted on the link.

I couldn't agree more.  People think that because I'm an editor that I want tons of coverage and 7 cameras running at once so I can pick and choose as I see fit.  That's my day to day life, yes, but I LONG for a good one'er.

I remember once I was working on a pilot of a new reality show and we were told that we would have a lot of input in shaping the show, and how we should be free in our first cuts to just go for it.  I found that there were several directions I could take the material, and since I am a physically fast cutter, I cut together three versions of the opening scene, all with very different sensibilities.  I was 26 and hoping to impress someone, though realisitcally I was trying to impress myself.

The director came in and I showed him one cut, and he had notes.  I showed him the second pass and he stopped me 10 seconds in and said "Why did you waste your time with this?  I asked for YOUR cut.  ONE cut.  I don't want your speculation, I want your decision.  Make a choice and show it to me at the end of the day."

In the bay I see a LOT of wasted time.  The last sizzle I did I saw no less than a hundred hours of purely wasted material.  Material that didn't inform the final choice.  Material that didn't have to be made in order to arrive at the right decision.  If only Sam could be on every set going, "COVERAGE, MOTHERFUCKER!  DO YOU NEED IT!"

It's surprisingly well sourced, and not just with the GRRM books, but in finding 1 to 1 analogs in actual medieval cookbooks.  it breaks down recipe's be region, then meal (Breakfast on the Wall, for instance), and they are mostly pretty easy and straight forward.  Each recipe starts with a quote of text from the book where they are mentioned (And yes, Honeyed Locusts ARE on the menu), as well as breaking down the types of cuisine from region to region (The Riverlands obviously have a lot of fish, the Reach is a lot of grains and pastries, Dorne is more mediteranean, etc).  Another cool feature is that for select recipe's, they will feature the original medieval version, and then show a modern interpretation.  Medieval Applecakes have a very rustic presentation to them, whereas the modern Applecake recipe is a bit more refined and benefits from using a stand mixer.

Some early standout recipe's that I cannot wait to try are the Sweet Pumpkin Soup, Pigeon Pie, Iced Blueberries in Sweet Cream, and Dornish Snake with Fiery Sauce.

I like to start my year off with rereads so I'm rereading the definitive Civil War book, James McPherson's, Battle Cry of Freedom.  It's nice to revisit it after both the most recent Lincoln film and the shitty events of the last 6 months or so.

Also rereading Call of Cthulu because it had been way too damn long since I read it.  Also about to start Marvel Comics: The Untold Story by Sean Howe.

And most importantly.... A Feast of Ice and Fire the official Game of Thrones cookbook.  I will be doing weekly recipe's when the new season starts.

Just ask to talk to anyone in Human Resources.   If the post house is small enough just ask to speak to a Post Coordinator or Post Supervisor.  Send me a message and I'll shoot some emails your way. Any online links to your work?

Many MMA Highlights are a dime a dozen.  This one, however, stands out.

The final book of SOng of Ice and Fire will reveal that Westeros is actually a poorly terraformed Mars.

SHYAMALAN!

Remember Remember the 19th of December.  DiF'ers, Hobbits, with sort of a plot.

That same one is a favorite of my wife and son.  I just bought a depressing amount of furniture at Ikea, and I drowned my sorrows in their mildly-adequate Mojito's.

Um.....I kinda like CPK.  The Field Greens salad and their seasonal Asparagus soup are kinda rad.  Keep in mind, California doesn't have specific pizza recipe to emulate.  It's more the ingredients (Avocado on everything!) that make it Californian.

I was gonna wait for the trilogy to finish and try cutting it into one film.

See, I would have no problem with The Hobbit as 3 movies, if they were all 80 minutes, which is what I'm going to aim for.  I liked the opening backstory stuff with Thorin, and I dug everything at Rivendell.  I just think the majority of Bag End's is death, and as you and I discussed, I would cut it after they escape the Goblin King.

House Lee literally gave me chills.

"Just as Rod makes his first million dollar deal and reconnects with a long lost love, he must now escape his sleepy coastal town when it comes under attack from ravenous rotating .jpeg's of Birds."

Yeah, I think every American should get a dozen wings from Anchor Bar once in their life (and conversely, a deep dish from Uno's) so that they know what pale imitations every other wing in the world is.  It's a fucking joke.

Yeah, in fact I would ask that we leave her alone.  I had a long conversation with her and she had a come to jesus moment about it.

I thoroughly enjoyed IB.  I think the ending was an amazing piece of chaos that worked for me on a very primal level.

In fact, Primal is a word I use to describe for much of QT's filmography.  When it works, it works because it forgoes logic in very strategic ways to tap into something very raw.  Kill Bill is much the same way.  THere's an anger in IB that is palpable, and while the narrative suffers at times, you can lose yourself to the energy of it.  If you're an MMA fan, then this analogy will work.  QT is the Clay Guida of cinema.

There was actually a functional reason for this.  I can't remember the reason given, but each mech has two pilots ho operate separate aspects of the machine.

As long as the movie ends like this, that's all I care about.

As someone who has logged many, many hours in Storm Trooper Armor doing stunts, let me tell you that that posture he's in in this photo is physically impossible.

My only question in regards to the trailer is where, exactly, is the dong port so I can make sweet love to it for the rest of the week, and all other weeks until the movie is here.
