Mars Attacks is one of those movies that ive seen randomly since it came out, and I cant take my eyes off of it when its on.
Its got a lot of cheesy 90's performances from Burton's cast, bad effects, bad shots, horrible structure.
but its the fun version of War of the Worlds, and the less "AMERICA, FUCK YEAH" version of Independence day.... and ends up feeling like a pulp comic for me, or like the pilot of some show i actually would watch.

isnt the directors cut the only one out there? I mean that usually defies logic, but I remember when this movie was released... only the directors cut was in stores n' shit...

OH Pirates. Disney turns a ride into a movie, and this time it works...
For about one and a half movies... then it stopped being fun and started being redundant.
Characters stopped having arcs, and started having 'the next fantastical setpiece' methinks.
Regardless, I hope the opinions are split on these films, they deserve some dissecting.

as for my thought about Episode 1... I could write a novel... but I'll condense as much as I can.
a good sequel makes us look at the 1st movie in a different light. the best example (I can think of, at the moment) of this comes from the original trilogy with Darth Vader being an Antagonist in the 1st film (as well as in ESB and until his character arc runs dry in ROTJ), and yet is given new depth in the first sequel.
What this SEQUEL trilogy needed, was something that allowed the original trilogy to shine in a new light.
I have two thoughts that can never seem to escape my psyche.
Anakin shouldn't have wanted to become a jedi.
