Topic: 13 Assassins

Holy crap.

I caught this at Melbourne International Film Festival last night, and it's now firmly embedded as one of my favourite works by Takashi Miike.  Slow to build, wonderfully shot, and with a slight hint of Miike's signature fascination with the macabre; this is a truly brilliant rendition of the classic Japanese Samurai film.

Yeah, I loved this movie. I haven't seen any of Miike's other flicks that I can recall, cause I had previously heard that most of his movies were gorefests. I'm thinking about catching some of his other stuff, tho. What other Miike films would you recommend?

Re: 13 Assassins

I prefer the original actually. What lets this one down a tad is the magic bean that comes out of nowhere at the end.
