This looks like a  real wildcard. I'm not holding my breath for anything mindblowing, but it certainly shows some potential.

Most of us have seen the 'Big' trailers of the year already, but this one really caught my eye the other day:

Willem Dafoe in 'The Hunter':

*Edit - Thanks to Dr. Submarine for showing me the ropes.

How was Tintin not nominated and Puss in Boots was?

I'm wondering the same thing. Think it wasn't included for some technicality or did it really lose out to those?

Also, was anyone else not blown away with Moneyball? I enjoyed it and can't fault it in any particular area, but it seems fairly forgettable.

Doctor Submarine wrote:

Didn't he claim to have a prequel and sequel to Red Tails in mind not a few days ago? What was that all about, then?

On the Daily Show this week he actually said "There is a prequel and a sequel, and they're better than this movie by a longshot".

The quote is a little out of context, he means the true story has potential for better films to be made, but still . . . classic Lucas.

According to an article by the New York Times, Redtails will be George Lucas' final 'Blockbuster' film.

“I’m retiring,” Lucas said. “I’m moving away from the business, from the company, from all this kind of stuff.”

Apparently he wants to focus on more 'personal' films in the future.

George Lucas Strikes Back - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl … BMgegut3UM

Sorry if there is already a thread on this topic (I did a quick search but didn't see one).
I'd love to hear some of DIF's most anticipated films this year.

Let's try not to get too carried away, so try to limit yourself to just 3-5 titles.

My personal list:

Hey everyone,

My name's Rick, I've been listening to DIF since I stumbled across it on reddit a little over a year ago.
I've done a lot of traveling during some work and trips abroad over the last year and the commentaries really helped me get through the long hours on trains, buses and nights in rundown (tv/film/computerless) living conditions.

I've considered myself a fan of film ever since I borrowed a vhs copy of the movie Pi from my local library. Before that time movies were just another form of entertainment and a way to pass the time.

I'm currently living in Oregon and am about to finish a degree in Fish and Wildlife studies (animal behavior, wildlife biology, conservation). After animals, movies are probably my second biggest interest/passion. I'm excited to finally join the DIF community and become an active member here.

This is England absolutely blew me away. That kid was fucking brilliant in it. I just recently watched Dog Soldiers and it was great fun. I read (I think on IMDB, so grain of salt and all that) that Simon Pegg was originally wanted for the lead, but Edgar Wright wanted his first horror movie to be with him on Shaun of the Dead.

It would have been interesting to see Pegg in such a visceral and serious role.

I really enjoyed Trollhunter. I originally thought it was going to be more of a comedy (my Norwegian friend told me, the titular trollhunter is a famous comic actor in Norway), so it was different from what I anticipated. That being said, the film did not fail to entertain me.

This is the monster movie treatment I enjoy. It reminded me of Joon-ho Bong's 'The Host. The people involved seem to know exactly what type of movie they are making.
Nobody takes it too seriously so there is room for comedy, but there are still stakes and moments of real tension and horror.

Is Pan's Labyrinth the only foreign film DIF has made a commentary for?
Is there an unofficial decision not to make them or is it just a coincidence?

I've been on a Korean film kick for the last two years or so and I'd love to hear some thoughts on one of them.
The obvious choices would be Oldboy or The Host, but there are plenty of others worth watching and making commentaries for as well.

e.g. Memories of Murder, J.S.A., The Good, the Bad and the Weird etc.
