Aardman putting out just straight up weapons grade wholesome adorableness.
Bryce Dallas Howard directed two episodes of Mandalorian.
And Kathleen Kennedy is in the tallest chair.I know where you were going, I just had to point that out.
Deborah Chow also directed 2 eps of Mando, and is directing Obi Wan.
She did another one! Pperhaps even more delightful than the first.
(The first one: )
I didn't expect this to hit me as hard as it did, Grant really was someone special.
Over the past 6 months Pluffaduff has released a trilogy of full mashup albums, which is just a fucking bonkers amount of work to think about, with the last one releasing today and they are all extremely good. (With the obvious caveat that all mashup stuff has it's ups and downs and really depend on your relationship to the individual pieces the artist is pulling from as much as it does the final track itself.) That said, there's a few that I would legitimately say transcend the medium into masterpieces in their own right:
'One' is this magical tapestry of a million disparate elements pulled from decades of pop culture that all coalesce into this thing that feels so... unique? It's like a classical painting painted with ketchup, mud and truffle shavings and I just want to pick it apart and figure out htf it even works. And 'Free', especially as the last song of the project, is like the ultimate cathartic expression of a tremendous weight being lifted from the soul, and it was pretty fucking magical.
But there's so many other great tracks that range of masterpieces of editing and concept, to straight up shitposts, it's fantastic.
(I will say not safe for work, at least the first time through, standard hip-hop/rap/pop music sort of warnings apply to some them)
Every time Rob does one of these deep dive videos it is an absolute delight. This is almost 2.5 hours but doesn't feel it at all, entertaining, interesting and educational front to back.
EDIT:
OH YEAH.
Glad you're interested, guys. I love, love, love improv and VA especially like this, and I so badly wish I was capable of it.
I was gonna say, I did actually end up watching this entire thing, and it was /fantastic/. I do want to go back through and listen to the commentary I just really haven't been in the headspace for it.
Fuck yeah makin stuff! Looking forward to seeing it all come together man
I know right? My mind is already spinning with possibilities, and obviously it's not gonna be any of this exactly if at all but right now my lead theory is
The Oracle finds out and sends the now adult Sati, who has spent the last 18 years or however long it's been learning how to manipulate and navigate the backdoors, to break Neo out and bring him back to the real Matrix and maybe even get him out again (Shots of one of the ships in the ruins of a city). Although young Morpheus is still a giant question mark, but clearly Lana is doing a /thing/ with him because it's not like Fishburne wasn't down to do another one. And then there's the whole meta aspect where the actual '99 movie exists in universe, or at least in one of the versions of the Matrix which is just flabbergasting and interesting as hell, the closest theory I've seen to make sense of it is the machines giving Neo the life of a moviestar who starred in the movie "The Matrix", so he's rich and famous and happy in his life (ie. not miserable and trying to escape ala Thomas Anderson's first go around), and could help explain any relapsed memories as "Oh that was just from the movie". But I mean, way too early to make any calls on that one, but it's a fun idea.
A barrage of fascinatingly bizarre choices that I am so psyched to see come together.
Thanks man, once I actually start having to comp in the plate of the actress it gets a bit sketchier so I might have to get you guys to take a look at it when I get there, but trying to really level up the composition & cinematography was one of my big focal points when I decided to re-do this scene, so super happy that's coming through.
And yeah, for [insert complicated world building reasons here] they're not strictly /meant/ to be in unision, but I'm not mad if they are Thanks for the call out though, always down for more specific feedback from you guys btw. The one-two whammy of 'moving up here' and 'the pandemic', killed off pretty much all of my irl sources of talking about movie stuff with other people who do this.
Thanks guys, it's been a long time coming without really being sure it was going to work, so it's good to know other people than me actually think it looks good Lots more to come, I'm pretty much in the phase of having everything built, so it's just running the shots through animation and rendering then I can get everything comped and put this thing to bed. Lots to go, but this was a big milestone.
So I've been all-in on getting shots through the pipeline for this scene, and I finally got my first one fully ready to go into compositing, so I did a rough comp on it that sort of got out of hand, so anyways I'm pretty that file is just gonna be my actual comp now oops. A few things I want to clean on the actual for real, real comp, but this is the first real shot of the scene that's 100% put together with all the layers, and it's kinda surreal to see. So you know, big landmark, figured I'd share for the non-social-media folks.
And I am a very very happy man fwiw, it's looking almost exactly like I was aiming for, which is also kinda surreal.
Little slightly-less-than-one-day-build for some buuuugs to throw in this scene. Considering the biggest these guys will ever be on screen is like 30 pixels, it actually holds up surprisingly well close up. Just one of those little things that turned out so much better than I expected. Very happy.
This is just /delightful/.
Marc doing an ad for a German supermarket chain and making an absolute BANGER is just *chefs kiss* perfection.
Bit of a weird one, so Context for those that don't already know: There's a subreddit called Humanity, Fuck Yeah!, where people post their own sci-fi writing generally centered around the idea that optimistic potential of human nature in out future, or around the idea of humans as uniquely gifted in some way that gives us an advantage over the rest of the galaxy because of our human-ness. One of the big tropes is the idea of Earth as a "Deathworld". Basically, in the galactic sense, a place where no one would ever dare go because you will die, and die hard, and probably Die Hard 2 With a Vengeance too;; basically the galactic equivalent of Australia; and since humans evolved here and we just think of it as home, we are these terrifying hardy af killing machines that can survive basically anything.
So all that to say: There's one series on-going right now (They usually update with a new chapter every cpl weeks or so, but they've had to slow down because they're in college rn) called "A Job For A Deathworlder" that I got hooked on. The basic pitch is it follows the first human scientist to serve aboard an alien vessel, and follows his journey through navigating the culture shock of living amongst aliens on a spaceship, and navigating the stigma that comes with being a deathworlder, and then things get Complicated™. It's jam packed with really interesting and well done world building, with a lot of really fun ideas, but always manages to center the character relationships and does them really well and doesn't minimize the fact that these are all aliens with completely different ways of thinking and worldviews into the Star Trek-y humans by another name thing but celebrates the weirdness (and the headache's, tension and confusion that brings), and is (so far) telling a really fun story that I can't wait to see more of.
They're on Chapter 16 right now, with a few bonus short stories, although I'm a few chapters behind atm.
I actually somehow totally missed that, sounds frickin amazing and so up-my-alley, I'll check it out. Thanks Saniss
On the subject of watching extremely niche, super talented, people being passionate about they do and sharing it:
EDIT:
OH RIGHT. The other thing. I got sucked into the Artstation learning section over my break and discovered a bunch of talks and stuff from an art convention, which are great, but I discovered that they have a few talks from Crash McCreery talking about his process and showing off a bunch of his art for (apparently) the first time ever. Either way, they're fun talks and it's cool to see and hear him talk about his own stuff:

Nice dude! The design feels very Animal Crossing, but I don't know enough about Animal Crossing to know if it's an actual Animal Crossing or not. ...Animal Crossing.
So between work being absolutely crazy for the past 2 months with Convocation season and me hitting a bit of a motivation block, progress kinda stalled out on the scene I was working on for a bit, and I basically made it my goal for my week off to bulldoze through as much of it as I could and get to the next stage of things and just get this shit moving.
So this is the first time I've actually been able to put the Daffokill into the actual environment and see what it all looks like together, and gaddamn I'm so happy right now. Still some tweaks to make, and the compositing is still just a test version, but it's getting closer to the look I want.
Basically me:
Just me sitting here for 20 minutes with biggest, dumbest grin on my face.
