Oh, Charlie Brooker, I love thee.
As it is pancake day here, I thought I'd post this pic of creative pancakes-
Peter Richardson is an odd chap. He basically created The Comic Strip and had creative control of many of its output and because of this, he has gone back and edited quite a lot of the old stuff. The dvd version of The Supergrass has about 8 minutes missing and some of the TV episodes have had scenes snipped too, for no reason other than he wasn't happy with it. Now, I fully respect that but his edits were pointless and have caused fans of the Comic Strip to complain. One of the edits for an episode called Transatlantic Raiders completely removes an important emotional beat and without it, the ending just isn't the same.....
Anyway, the BAFTAs were last night and Argo won best film and best director while Skyfall won best British film. Life of Pi won for FX and cinematography while Django Unchained won for best original screenplay. If you want to know the full results, the link is here -> click as those are only ones I could remember off the top of my head.
The US will get the full line while the UK will get it cut short by a sound like what happened in the PG-13 fourth film. Fox are bastards, they precut Chronicle and Taken 2 to get a 12A rating too. The theory is, like the R in the US, kids can see 12A films with an adult therefore more cash. I've read that there is up to 50 cuts in the UK version so we may as well get a fucking 'edited for TV' version.
Fun Fact: When Die Hard was first shown on TV in the UK, that line was dubbed to "Yippee kiyay, Kimosabe"
I feel that this quote from Dorkman is very important right now-
At any rate, we've got an episode coming up (already recorded) all about where we see ourselves in the context of storytelling and criticism, so we can debate it in the release thread whenever that goes up if we feel the need, and let this thread go back to movie suggestions.
That's about the best scene in it, mate
Despite being rated R in the US, A Good Day To Die Hard has been given an uncut 12A certificate in the UK.....
EDIT: Actually, apparently, it has been pre-cut by the studio to get a 12A certificate so we get a different version than the US. Hooray
Sophia Crawford is awesome. She was the stunt double for the original Pink Ranger too, fact fans.
Yup, That's the sort of thing I read about the film
I have heard a lot of reviews saying they didn't like the film. I've read that people can't sympathise with the main characters but they do redeem themselves. It is liked by people in the US and Scotland, so it's not a cultural thing so who knows? It just didn't grab you is all. Someone will come along and defend it soon enough, no doubt.
I enjoy tea, too.
That's not what I'm saying at all, though. At no point did I defend my liking of the film in that way. My stance is- I like it, you don't, who cares?
Why do you have to understand? I mean, can't you just accept that some people like stuff you don't and vice versa? Why do I need to justify my liking of a film to you? And vice versa. You're not 'missing' anything, it's just the way it is, mate
Nobody can explain why you don't like it, that's a 'you' thing. I do like it but not because it's set in London, don't care about that, I just like it. I personally have fun with it, you don't so fair enough. Everyone is different, my friend we all like different things
Thought I'd save you the hassle
But....I just wanted to quote Teague. Couldn't really care if nobody liked the vids or not, nobody is forcing them to watch. Can't even say things ironically these days
Anyway, inspired by talk of Doomsday in another thread, I remembered that film used Two Tribes in its climax. I then remembered a better use of the song in the 1985 Comic Strip film The Supergrass. Want to know just how badass Robbie Coltraine is? Watch this and know that that is really him, no stunt double used at all and no safety harness or any of that pussy shit
Speaking of Mad Max, what did folks think of Doomsday, the Neil Marshall film about a wild post-apocalyptic Scotland?
Isn't really that much different to the way Scotland is now.
And I'm with Bullet, it's a mess of a movie. Has some good ideas, even the ones nicked from other movies, but it tries to be so many things at once. It's far too muddled although I do like the climax using Two Tribes on the soundtrack.
Multi-cultural, are we?
I was going to call it Mad Max II but I decided against it as I actually prefer The Road Warrior. And on my blu ray, it has both
(I wasn't going to call it that to be a dick, I just have a thing about calling films their original name. I call The Raid: Redemption, just The Raid, for example and although it is called Marvel's Avengers Assemble here, it's plain old The Avengers to me )
I love Buffy and I love stunts so I was thrilled when the stunt co-ordinator for seasons 2-4, Jeff Pruitt, started posting these on Youtube. They strongly feature (rather obviously as she was Buffy's double) his wife, the awesome Sophia Crawford. Sorry if you're not interested in this but to quote Teague- this is so my shit-
Road Warrior is great, I got it on blu ray last year and was pleasantly surprised to discover it has a George Miller commentary on it. May need to give it a re-listen soon actually.
/may have made a full-on Road Warrior costume sometime in the past
/may still have it
/don't judge
Why would we judge awesomeness?
We have to learn these important lessons in life, Trey, I agree.
Of course it's a Stephen J Cannell production! Awesome
I'd watch it
Dorkman wrote:BigDamnArtist wrote:It's easily in my top 5 animated movies of all time.
Yeaaaaahhhh... you don't want us doing a RANGO commentary.
Well now I definitely want you to do one.
You're happy to hear them rip into a film you love? Braver man than me, BDA
