I only just now realized he's saying "descender of the demon horde" instead of "defender" and oh god what is happening.

I kind of have a really masochistic desire for you guys to do I, Frankenranken.

Although, if you're hell-bent on having a fight, I'm sure we could have one about Olaf.

I was prepared to hate him, but he's miles better than Timon and Pumbaa or the gargoyles in Hunchback.

THANK YOU. I have to fast-forward that every time I listen to it on my iPod. It's a problem with all of the songs, really. The lyrics are just so flat and banal.

Reddit session with Mark Hamill. Classy guy.

Is there no chance that this will just blow over and he'll reconsider? (I say this not having much experience with Tarantino the person outside a few interviews.)

"If Her Wins the Oscar for Best Picture, It Could Change Science Fiction Forever". I don't think it has the ghost of a chance of doing so, and the author of the article doesn't seem to realize just how important Gravity is, but it's an interesting read nonetheless.

Having just seen it (in Final Cut form) for the second time and having found both a lot of new things to love and several things to criticize, I have to ask--will a Blade Runner commentary ever be in our future?

I'd be insanely interested to hear that Mr. Banks commentary.

Thought Zarban in particular might be interested in this: "Erased by Time and Blockbusters: The Cautionary Tale of Ron Weasley".

So glad you guys are back! big_smile

Audio sounds just fine to me. Granted, my only headphones right now are kinda falling apart.

Or it should have been.  But I agree that - in a rare case - Batman Begins isn't very interesting.

See, that's the odd thing. That is NEVER the best Batman story smile

Not a regular reader of the comics, but isn't Year One supposed to be up there with The Dark Knight Returns and The Killing Joke as one of the best Batman stories ever? (I was not a fan of either TDKR or TKJ, so go figure.)

I kinda want the guys to do an Intermission about all this, but really, what is there to say anymore? Guy's a mess.

The old saying in politics is you never want to be caught with a dead girl or a live boy. What's the Hollywood equivalent?

M. Night Shyamalan.

Would you guys ever be open to doing Aronofsky's Pi? Just saw it, and it creeped me the fuck out. One of those films that I recognize is excellent (though I have a problem with the coda) but that I never want to see again.

Fully with you, Zarban. Now we need to hold a council to decide which of his essays are and aren't canon. (Feel free to condemn all of the Iraq War ones as heresy. tongue)

I know it's simplistic in nature and ignores the scientific aspect of proving God. But I think there's some truth to it in that, usually, the strongest anti-theists are usually people who had bad experiences with the church. My atheist friend grew up in the Catholic Church and even taught history at a catholic school before he lost his faith.

Just something I observed while driving in my car today listening to my favorite podcast.

I never had a problem with my faith. I attended a religious school for my last two years of high school, and its insane fundamentalism was a bit of an eye-opener for me, but I was still totally devoted to my own church's brand of Christianity. That's why Hitchens was like a slap in the face to me—he came out of nowhere. I had no preconceived grudge with Christianity. I loved my church family, and still do. If there's anyone who had the best possible experience with religion growing up—well, I won't say it was me, but I'm probably in the top 20%. I deconverted for intellectual and moral reasons, not emotional ones.

Re-listening to this one, it's definitely the one where the podcasters collectively went off the rails the most. However, as it's zany, wired going-off-the-rails instead of everyone just collapsing from exhaustion, I love it. big_smile

After hearing Eddie, Trey and Teague endorse Under the Banner of Heaven on several different episodes, I finally picked it up. Best book I've read so far this year--utterly horrifying and infuriating, and at the same time very engaging and informative. Highly recommended to all.

One ancient church father (I think Tertullian) thought that the main joy of heaven was getting to watch all the unbelievers writhe in agony in hell, and contemplate how much better off we are. Because he recognized that the concept of heaven, Biblically at least, is an incredibly boring one.
