But any leader who wants to disarm the people is looking at Syria and going, "if the protesters had fewer guns that would be going a lot better."
Australia? England? Totally fucking Syria.

Alright brains trust, there are a huge number of training resources on the web so I'm looking for recommendations. I want to learn something new, but want more than the standard "let's model a head" style of tutorial. I want a project to learn from.
I'm looking for something that's going to start with nothing, or perhaps raw plates and footage, and teach me how to make that into a thing. I don't mind of it's editing, 3d, animation, compositing, vfx, sound design, colour timing, match moving, etc. Frankly I love it all to pieces. My restrictions are I need to be able to get access to the tools required, I can only play on weekends, and want to be able to go back to the lessons down the track to swot up.
Fxphd does things along these lines, but you need a higher skill base line to play effectivly than I have (being in a non-creative field).
Chances of finding something like this?

That's a bit like I've complained of a headache, so you've put on a witchdoctor outfit, sacrificed a calf to the ancestors, and recommended trepanation.
What's Geekza?
With Teague (and Ryan) hitting the bricks with high hopes and new reels, what about a discussion about dealing with freelancing? Sorting your taxes, what's important for your reel, maybe even an intermission screencast where someone depicts the culling and building process for their work?
You don't have to be famous, you just need to network. Like always.
For example, what if MadGod tips it's hat to a production by Trey (because of network), driving eyes and funding?
What if Trey then tips his hat to a production by Teague, (because of network) driving eyes and funding?
Or, real life example, Eddie tips his hat to a kick arse MMA production which drives eyes and funding?
Backers become your initial audience and word-of-mouth advertising campaign.
Technology doesn't replace the need to build networks and community. I recommend people I've met or worked with for jobs in corporate land, same as in creative land. Same shit with kickstarter; people trust recommendations by people they know.
The Pixar Brain Trust made one recently. It was called JOHN CARTER.
Keep using that kind of language around here young man, and someone will be washing your mouth out with soap!
Pixar aren't dead, they've just become Disney.
Personally I'm champing at the bit for Cars 3 - The Matering.
Hooray for drawing club!
we can all come together and laugh at Dave's acting.
His acting is fine.
I mean, we'll laugh, but.
No, it's fine, really. He did good.
Well.
Look, let's just say I'm better at spreadsheets than the talky-talk.
Just saw this for the first time. It takes a while to get going doesn't it?
I feel like this could have started later in the piece and spent less time showing how much Andrew was bullied, and worked that in to the flow of the film more. I never really felt bad for Andrew so wasn't too concerned when his long-telegraphed spiral happened (the character's save the cat moment happens too late in the piece when Matt, Steve, and he are already flying gods). Matt was too apathetic to really get behind; he starts cool, shows some low level vulnerability to Casey, and then saves the day.
But it was kind of fun from a what-if perspective. Did anyone else feel like they were channeling the second act of Akira for the entire film?
I think we're missing something critical. Kickstarter and its ilk could potentially bring a lot of new talent to the field, who would otherwise not be financially able to dedicate a year to a project.
It's easy to damn because we can't see a way around an obstacle, but the point is this is now a thing. This is working; people are contributing significant money to projects they believe in, and it's only a matter of time until entities (Amazon studios anyone?) step up to make some money distributing other peoples work.
I think there are probably a couple of differing opinions on this, perhaps we'll see it come up in an intermission.
Perhaps you could leverage an existing distribution platform?
What about this scenario.
Kaufman makes a thing. People love it. Hollywood gets nothing.
Other film makers, maybe Phil Tippett, make a thing. People love it. Hollywood gets nothing.
How long do you think it will be until independent digital distribution channels pop up?
Will bigger name talent to get on board?
So Kaufman heads to Kickstarter because ...
Our goal is to produce this unique and beautiful film outside of the typical Hollywood studio system where we believe that you, the audience, would never be allowed to enjoy this brilliant work the way it was originally conceived. We’ve been working in the television and movie industry for years and we just want to make something ourselves. Something pure. Something beautiful.
My question to those playing along at home is what does this mean for the traditional funding model, and should the studios be concerned?
Knife Party - Australian dubstep.
Brighton rock.
Go you Aussie good thing.
Fuck yeah, Canadia.
(Teague loves the shit out of this one)
Truth to be told most people I know think the US system is inhuman and nobody understands why you let the government and the big business do this to you.
This.
I'm cautiously excited; there's a great cast attached but I've not seen any of the Director's work, and this is one of the screenwriters first credits.
As an update, there's a behind the scenes photo gallery over on facebook you can check out.
[ edit ] Oh, I get an invitation to the premiere screening in LA which I can't use. Eddie, I assume you're going already? [ / edit ]
