Ive been a long time fan of the site as it's existed so far.

It's a sister site to GiantBomb, ComicVine & Screened. (VideoGames, Comics, Movies & TV, respectively)

And as a fan of Mythbusters & Adam & Jamie, I look forward to seeing what they can do together.

Well with the release of the DVD coming up in a week or so, I've decided that this was good to show without the password.

And I have tweaked up my presence on Vimeo to include this, putting together a "channel" to show off some of the shows that I've worked on.

And in that one reply you outpaced all the knowledge that I have on the subject.

Well played sir.

Well ahh shucks, thanks.

It still, now a good 4 months or so post delivery, one of my favorite shows to have worked on. Not as much for the individual shots, though there were some fun ones, there were also some doozies.

But for the overall spot in my brain that I can now bookmark in my memory as "having worked on a Muppet movie". No matter how old I get, or what other high profile projects I work on down the years, that will stand out.

As we have folks here who seem to straddle both these interests so well, it felt like a good fit to show.

That and apparently George has the option of a family bodyguard now.

Trey, now I realize that I have two friends who live down in the Marina on a boat, and I still haven't managed to check out either one, sigh, I fail. Especially as I work like two blocks from there.

This isn't where I am now, but where I spent all my "formative" years before heading to the swealtering Florida for school, then LA.

Audiobooks tends to be my audio-listening of choice for the work that doesn't really need all my mental focus.

Their comment on why they have lasted and the difference between them and CG characters was also an amusing clip.

I hope I put in some contributions worth listening to, as this was my first "official" on mic appearance outside of the occasional piping in with a thought or two.

The combination of my generally more passive conversation style, and Mike taking the lead on a lot of the discussion left me felling that I contributed but ... not sure how much by the end.

I'll work on getting something together for this shortly.

But I realized that I have somehow misplaced my webcam at some point, so I'll get a replacement tomorrow, and get something put together.

ooo...
So can I now say I worked on an Oscar nominated song?

Man or a Muppet got the nod for Best Original Song, with one other song, so a 50/50 chance to take it home.

thats .... yeah ok then.
Some days I never stop being amazed.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
Tim Burke, David Vickery, Greg Butler and John Richardson
(this definately I think got the "end of series" bump, and probably wasn't hurt that all the drama surrounding the bake-off brought it to the front of peoples minds more)

Hugo
Rob Legato, Joss Williams, Ben Grossman and Alex Henning
(this, along with what 10 other nom's, seems to indicate that they went with the heavy film nostalgia that the movie evoked.)

Real Steel
Erik Nash, John Rosengrant, Dan Taylor and Swen Gillberg
(Glad that this god the nod)

Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Joe Letteri, Dan Lemmon, R. Christopher White and Daniel Barrett
(Again kind of a given on this one given all the hype/controversy, and the incredible work)

Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Scott Farrar, Scott Benza, Matthew Butler and John Frazier
(well 2 big robot movies, this one deserved a nod, but still ...)

While I have no idea how the Vancouver office is set up, welcome back from the home base in LA.

And once again, I am reminded how small this industry can be.

Been far to long.

In theory, I'm actually at the tail end of my last 5 year plan.

This was the one that got me out to LA and into the industry, which followed my previous 5 year plan that took me through working full time to save up and then attending school, rolling back to the plan that's just ending.

After some issues in HighSchool, I realized that trying to live in the moment all the time was causing me trouble, all the way up to some nasty migraines, so I made a point of shifting my stance to taking a long timeframe look at life, and not sweating the small stuff. So I didn't worry about the immediate product, but rather where it would take me in the long run.

And to be honest, I think that I've had a pretty good run so far.

Past this point ... not sure. There is talk of a staff offer at my current gig, which would be a nice step into a stable work level, and not stressing the freelance thing. Though to be honest I haven't really been stressed for finding a gig in the last 2 years or so.

I think I will take a break from any cohesive "Plans" and just kinda roll with it for a while and see where it takes me.

Did you like it Seth?

To be completely honest, I saw the initial trailers and talk about Red State, but never got around to seeing it. Nothing about it really jumped out at me and said ... go see this, and I'm sure I had things to do.

But I did love the conversation that was started, and loved the discussion of Kevin Smith's odd track record of work.

An update on the possible future of our favorite show.

There we go, edited the OP, to toe the line between putting it out there, and having a bit of a gatekeeper mentality.

Yeah this is an odd one, the footage & breakdowns were all made available to me by editorial at the studio, but... who knows.

That coupled with my no actual contract ... eh better to err on the side of caution.

See Trey now you got the paranoid part of my brain going, and I'm debating whether I should just yank it.

Sigh...

Trey wrote:

So under the terms of your contract, are these clips allowed to be released publicly?  Because this actually is a publicly-viewable forum, membership is only required for posting.

... true enough, but it is likely not to be searched for, and it wont be on the overall searches that people do for the video itself on Vimeo.

... technically ... I never actually signed a contract when they brought be back for Captain America, and then Muppets then Underworld, it was kind of a "we liked you before, just come in and start working" so ... If I wanted to be an ass about it I would just shrug and say oh well.

But I figure with the password and "limited access" I'm doing pretty well for not getting myself in trouble.

Thanks for the kind words, I really had a blast both having almost full sequences to work on, as well as the simple fact that it was Muppets, but ... yeah it was a lot of shots. This was the reason I was missing so many weekend recordings.

The scan lines were a combination of a nuke plugin, hate using those, that generated the solid separation lines to give it the base "TV" look, and a second pass that was run through the Flame with a banding color effect. By combining those two in various levels with a few other tweaks we were able to get a look that not only looked good on the tv set itself while they were in the tv,  but could be modulated slightly so that when they came out we got that "part of the tv" effect that they were looking for. It was more dialing in the look for that effect that took the time, the TV itself was almost more trouble as it was often shot without a screen and bottom at all, so I would have to completely rebuild the base and screen, with the correctly feeling convexness to have that old school look.

The Blue on Blue, was in reality not as bad as you would think. Before things actually shot they did alot of tests with various cameras and blue&green screens to find what worked best. the decision was made that green just didn't work with Kermit in so many shots, but for some reason the levels of blue that we would encounter in the Muppets was usually not enough to cause issues, with exceptions for things like Dr Teeth's hat feather or Gonzo's head feathers, those were either to true blue or "soft" that they didn't like to pick up.

On the arches, I had quite a few ladies for example that had blue fringe or highlighting in their dresses, that just didn't like the blue as much as I would like, but I was able to get the overall shape, so just ended up patching in the interior holes as needed.
