Who's going? Who's boycotting? Who's standing in line for midnight tickets?

How was Tintin not nominated and Puss in Boots was?

Filmmakers have taken to insisting that "performance capture" films, like TINTIN and everything Zemeckis has made lately -- are not the same as animated films despite everything being created digitally. So perhaps, as a result, it didn't qualify.

…Rango?

I'm expecting The Artist to walk away with a ton of awards, followed by Scorsese winning for Best Director and Allen for Best Original Screenplay.

I loved 'Drive'.

Jimmy, I love it.

Gregory, you're gonna have to put something on the table if you want me to say you're the longest fan. And I mean your dick.

You're going to need a bigger table.

And how about this: I'll read a promo of your choice on my podcast recording this evening. And that's in addition to the plug I assume Brian will be making for the WOK commentary.

How about "Longest Fan". In more ways than one.

re: my "are the DVD versions the same as the BlueRays" question.

IMDB has the following for the first movie:

Runtime: 178 min  | 208 min (special extended edition)  | 228 min (Special Extended Blu-Ray Edition)

Does this mean the DVDs are ~20mins shorter than the BlueRays and thus (in my no BlueRay house) I'm screwed.  sad

I had never heard that the Extended Blu-rays were even longer than the Extended DVDs. I'm frantically running around the internet trying to confirm. Does someone have a nice solid non-imdb link to this?

That's my point, it very well can change the top six.

You know you would have gotten a much more accurate count if you'd had people rank all eighteen films, or at least their top ten,

I'm assuming each movie is going to have it's own pre- and post-discussion as well as it's own pause/unpause point.

The Ark Knight

In a world plagued by sin, God sends a flood and picks one righteous man to fight evil and kick ass from his giant houseboat. Shia LaBeouf stars as Noah in this action movie that's part Waterworld, part Punisher, and part Bruce Almighty.

Funny story:

In the theater for Hugo this evening, there was a couple behind me who were very chatty. I had a little game when the Titanic trailer came on for how long it would take the girl to figure out what it was, and then her reaction. It took her a little long—you can ask my date at Tintin, I knew it was Titanic on the rating screen—but her shocked gasp was worth it. And then at the end she was frantically asking the guy how they made it 3D, and he couldn't do anything but repeat 'I don't know, I just don't know.'

The technique doesn’t have to be used only with timelapse footage, or so I believe.

Indeed….

Essentially making the PT a big-ass flashback sequence. I wish somebody would create a 2 hour version of the PT with just the essential bits, built for showing someone between 'Empire' and 'Jedi'.

The real reason I'm posting, though, is that I actually thought of Down in Front in the theater when Mikael Blomkvist had a literal, "save the cat" moment. So I guess the friends in my head have put up a residence...

SPOILERS

Yes exactly, which led me to be not at all surprised by the "kill the cat" moment a few reels later.

Nitpick: her name is actually Rooney Mara, not Mara Rooney. Which is fucking confusing, so I can understand.

While we're on the topic: Armand Hammer. That's his ACTUAL NAME. It's like naming your kid Dove Bar.

Apology accepted! I like that you've raised awareness of the popularity of summit-y activity.

I don't usually like to announce my own travel plans for security purposes, but in a somewhat limited circle like this one I'll say that I'm heading for the Pacific Northwest next June to better view the Transit of Venus.  We'll be staying with distant family who own a cozy B&B on the beach-- seriously in the surf-- about 100 miles south of Vancouver.  I call Sunset bonfire party on the strand on the 5th, telescopic and photographic equipment recommended, clouds permitting.  There's also an eclipse that week.

Well if you get to Seattle we can have a little mini-DIF summit. I doubt Teague'll be there, but, um, I've been mentioned on the shows a couple times, so I count, eh?

Anyone else reading the new Crichton book "Micro"? It's essentially "Honey I Shrunk The Scientists", but it's an interesting concept that I'd love to see get filmed. It's kind of impressive that Crichton's ideas got harder and harder to film as time went on, as Micro coud only be done on a budget of about $150 million to be done right, and only with today's technology, but Jurassic Park could be filmed in '92 for about $60.

Who on earth thought Blanchette blew up the door with her mind? That's insane, guys.

That was absolutely my coffee&bagels moment in the commentary.
