You're right, I'll probably never use this; but wow, that's cool.

I'm not digging the lightsaber at all. Talk about impractical...

Lightsabers are only practical because Jedi/Sith can use their forcey powers and wield them like champs without killing themselves. I don't see why they couldn't do that with this three-pronged saber too.

Mockingjay, Part I

Guuggghhh

Depression porn, starring Sadness Everdeen; though I personally never felt depressed, because I don't really care about Katniss, because she's not a human being. I can't relate to her at all. In fact, Haymitch and Finnick may well be the only humans in this movie. So I just felt bored, and frustrated. There were maybe five minutes in the movie where Katniss was not the focal point, and those were the best minutes.

  Show
The shaky-cam shots were overdone and felt too deliberate.
I understand why they added the cute little cat storyline, but I didn't buy the heart from J-Law. She literally saved a cat and I couldn't care less about Katniss.

The break-in scene at the end was pretty cool. I was into it, until Katniss dragged herself back to center stage.

Just saw it in IMAX at the National Air and Space Museum in DC. What an experience. It made Gravity feel like a like a bottle episode. There are plenty of valid quibbles about the science and the story that have been discussed, but it was so well-told none of them bothered me too much.

It didn't feel long to me at all. It could have been an hour longer and I would have been on board. That Dailymash article may be a joke, but my clock was seriously messed up by this movie. I walked out not knowing where or when I was. I also left with a surreal sense of greater purpose and importance, until I was reminded I have to wake up tomorrow morning to go serve food at a football game. It was weird.

The dialogue was easy to understand in my theater, with the exception of Michael Caine's dying words. Didn't get any of that last sentence. Were we supposed to?

As for the score, I was digging it the whole time and didn't know it was Zimmer till the credits rolled. That's right, I went the whole movie without making the Nolan-Zimmer connection. I was sorta wrapped up on a journey through space and time (and... love?), and it didn't cross my mind.

My friend worked on that rocket. He said it looks like the fuel leaked, and that was the last hardware he worked on. Whoops...

I was at school in Baltimore working on a group project. We went outside to try to see the rocket.

Cool, Herc! I watched the doc last night and very much enjoyed it. I almost lost it at the pre-show voice exercises. "PED-O-PHI-LI-A IS AN OP-TION IF YOU HAVE THE GUMP-TION."

I'm a big Community fan and listen to Harmontown here and there, so before viewing I already felt like I knew Dan, in a way. I'm curious as to what people who are new to his world think of the film. I have a feeling that people unfamiliar with Harmon won't find it particularly compelling as far as documentaries go, but I could be wrong. The narrative felt kind of all over the place, but I didn't care because I knew what I was in for and, as you said, it's very watchable.

I can't say I'm in love with Dan Harmon. His ego and douchery get on my nerves sometimes, but his extreme honesty and wit make him a very captivating and challenging person to listen to. I'd definitely like to catch a live show if they were ever to come to my area.

Maybe Teague could pull some strings... on the down low. Sam kinda owes him one, after all.

Is that... a My Name is Earl reference?

Is it? Never seen My Name Is Earl.

Welp, I was nominated for the ice bucket challenge, and I hadn't done any video work in a long time, so I decided to try something weird. I really can't say that I captured the Fincher style, but it was sort of the idea behind it. Hey, I used a song from a Fincher movie, so that's something. All done in a day, of course, with zero regard for copyright law.

Jobs is the soul of Apple. Two years from now, it will be like any other soulless corporation: putting out awkward, clunky hardware with software designed by engineers without regard for user experience.

Prophet or charlatan? Are iPhone 6 and 6 Plus innovative or imitative of competitors? Is iWatch a fresh twist on portable technology or a bizarre reworking of a piece of dying culture?

I'm not saying they're bad products. I'm planning on getting the iPhone 6 right away. (I broke my iPhone 5 screen last week, and nice devices are all that keep me from looking like a hobo.) I'm just wondering if Apple is now fully fallen from its position of leader in innovation.

No clue how the Watch will work out, but WWDC this year definitely restored a lot of hope in Apple for me. As an aspiring developer, I love the direction they're going in that regard.

You guys talked about how it didn't make sense when the FBI broke into the wrong house at the end and Crawford instantly realized Clarice was in danger. Well, here's the setup you were looking for, in the deleted scenes.

Good Will Hunting has been my favourite movie ever since I first saw it, and remains so to this day. Not because I think it's the best movie ever, it has its flaws and there are parts I don't love, but man, something about that movie just gets me every single time.

It's entrancing. I can't say I have one favorite movie, but if we're playing desert island, GWH would likely be on my list.

I tell you one thing that I like a lot, and that was Karen Gillan as Nebula. I kept thinking "Who is this gorgeous, exotic babe playing the badass blue chick?"

I was thinking the same thing, and I made my conclusion pretty early on. I spent the whole movie thinking that it was Rachael Leigh Cook.

I liked it a lot. It pulled off that great Ratchet and Clank vibe.

I do see where Praxus and sellew are coming from. I had a lot of those same thoughts, but I was having enough fun that I could sort of ignore them. Probably not my favorite of the year, but I'll definitely appreciate this movie before I criticize it.

What about some of the Planet of the Apes movies?

I recently rewatched the original, and though I still like it, I was shocked by how sparse and un-daring it was. It has so much potential for social commentary, but it's really lightly sketched. I really think a remake of the original film (hear me out, don't cut me), but with a better script and some subtext would be an excellent movie. It would, of course, do terribly at the box office though.

Still, they got a black astronaut into space before NASA did, so.

But yeah, the original would make for a really good "how could you improve this?" episode.

edit: the second film is quite, quite poor. i don't even know what they were trying to do, or thought they were trying to do. it's like someone started a sentence and then distracted you by pointing somewhere else, and then when you look back at them, they're just eating a sandwich.

I just rewatched the original a few nights ago (never saw the Burton remake). I think they'll need to make some big changes in the next one in order for it to work for audiences today. In the original, Heston thought he was in a far off solar system the entire movie, even though there were humans and apes and English. That worked okay in 1968, but they can't get away with that nonsense these days at least without giving him a decent theory behind his thinking. I'm interested to see where they'll go with it.

Yeah, the only dwarf I feel some sort of sympathy for at this point is Balin.
