Answering Owen: Full song... For some reason, it's actually difficult to answer, because the first song I learnt was Enter Sandman (Metallica), but I couldn't play the solo then... But yeah, Enter Sandman would be the better answer to that.
(i really need to find questions to ask too)
"I just try to play that shit until it works." Saniss, I'm going to put that on a t-shirt.
I could sell so many of these.
Quite a story, Jimmy. Glad it turned out well for you.
dbngaa : I began drums because last Christmas, my brother brought back at my parents' house his electronic drum kit, which he wasn't using much. Since then I've been playing a bit of it, so yeah, no lessons, I just try to learn songs I like, and since I'm a prog dude, I pretty much work on Mike Portnoy tracks only (for the last weeks, I've been working on Sola Scriptura, one of Neal Morse's solo albums, with Portnoy at the drums). I've always been good with rhythm, so it's going pretty well. I don't have any idea what a drums lesson would be like, I just try to play that shit until it works. Having fun with it so far!
(trying to come up with questions for the dudes above)
Oh, what the hell.
My name is Sébastien, and I'm three months shy of turning 21. After trying to study computer sciences, which I hated, I got into a VFX school called ArtFx last year, where I hope to be having tons of fun for the next three years. While I entered it because I always loved VFX, I wouldn't call this who I am, because I'd just love doing so many things.
I'm into music, progressive metal/rock styles (Dream Theater, Transatlantic, The Flower Kings, Neal Morse, Peter Gabriel), have been playing the electric guitar for six years now, drums for six months, never in a band but currently trying to start making covers of video games soundtracks.
I love nature, which naturally got me into loving astronomy, as a passion for years, but now as a summer job too. I do photography, mostly nature-related photography. Astrophotography is a part of it, and I've also discovered storm chasing, which led me to study a bit of meteorology.
I'm guessing, like Teague, I'll spent some years in the VFX industry, because that's what my studies are aiming me towards. But somehow I don't see myself entitled to one field forever, and I hope to be someday that kind of guys who do tons of stuff for a living. Hell, I sometimes find myself wondering what acting would be like, and I have a thing for cooking.
AMA.
PS: before Owen asks... standing up.
This name has given me sweet dreams for years, probably even before Team Fortress 2 was out (2007). I can't begin to describe how frakking excited I am that this thing is finally being released.
What they're showing in that little introduction video is even beyond what I hoped it would be. Character posing, animating, facial animations, camera motion. There's everything in there to make videos as awesome as the Meet the Team ones (okay, the baby Heavy is gonna be hard to top).
I won't have time to test the beta in July or August, but I guess the final version should be out by September, and I'm gonna have fun. There's so much potential in there, and Team Fortress 2 offers everything to make crazy shorts. If they eventually make it usable for any Source based game (which they are apparently planning to do), I will feel like a God.
Sigh. Valve. These people are incredible.
Damn, that's one sexy looking landscape.
EDIT : Without the archs, this reminds me a lot of the view of Mos Eisley in Star Wars, in a much less sunny way.
The longer you stare, the harder it is to look away.
Shucks. I saw the two dates on Wikipedia but didn't know which one was right for that specific shot (didn't see the film).
What did they do?
Dude, it's 2089 and Internet Explorer still exists. We're screwed, man.
I so don't want to see that movie anymore. I guess I will, eventually, but if I am to go to the theatre, let it be another movie.
I second this thread. As a non english person, learning slang is probably what I love to do the most.
Good thread. That'll help me add stuff to my watchlist (that, and iCheckMovies. God I love this website).
Hah, didn't know you had a Flickr account. Imma add you.
Zarban, you are one crazy son of a bitch.
I have a very, very bad memory of Quantum of Solace, while I loved Casino Royale. All I can remember of it is "MORE SHAKY CAM!!1!1". So yeah, we'll see about Skyfall.
Why... I don't... Why would you make me choose? I just love both so much. You...You're an awful person. I will not answer this.
Awesome.
Here's a suggestion I have : Tim Burton's Dark Shadows.
I got out of the theatre thinking meh, and reading reviews, I began to understand why, but I probably need to see it again to have a better idea of what's wrong with it. And I think this would be a good commentary to have, as I'd really like to hear what you guys think about it.
Representing the French in this community, I will say that... yeah I have no idea.
I'm just glad Sarkozy got kicked out. Let's all have foie gras and a Pinot Noir.
Let's dedicate the road trip to those 20,000.
How many posts have I got anyway?
EDIT : Ah... Well... Everyone has to start from scratch.
I wonder how many posts BDA would have by now if chat messages were counted as posts. Something like over 9000, probably.
Awesome, thanks for this. You've been living there for long?
