First We Feast finally giving George Motz his own show is the best thing to happen to the internet since we went into quarantine.

For the unfamiliar, George Motz is a self styled burger historian dedicated to researching and preserving the history of the hamburger in the US, in all it's wild and weird regionality.

Other First We Feast videos with him (I think he also had a food network or travel channel, one of those types anyways, series about burgers but I haven't had a chance to find & watch it yet) \/

SPOILER Show

You wanna DM me your email when you get a sec? We might take you up on that for one of the tracks Kyle is producing for Innervate.

Huh, so it's kind of closer to a hurdy gurdy than a guitar or violin in that respect. Neat.

*keeping in mind, noted non-musical person BDA, here*

How much does fretting the strings from underneath mess with your ability to play compared to a guitar? It seems like you wouldn't be able to change notes nearly as fast on the tagelharpa because you have to take your finger off the string, go underneath and then back up through the strings to get to the one nearest your thumb. Or is that just part of the instrument and you write music around it?

Oh dude, it is like, the, most quintessential "freelancer in the internet age" story.

Jay was working on one of the episodes in, I think it was 2017(?) And threw a Premiere question out to the world on Twitter, which I answered cause I'm cool like that, and we had a bit of back and forth problem solving, and at some point I mentioned I was a VFX artist and what-not, and he was like "oh reeeaaaallllly", and the rest as they say, is history.

New Unfinished London just dropped that I have a few shots in again!

More of just a technical fix-up, but did some work on the shot at 27 seconds to time stretch it out without making it look like it was time stretched out.

And did the Wrong Bin! game show shot at 5:23.

He also did this one which is freakin cool too. Flyover of Knott's, Universal and Magic Mountain.

And apparently it's a day for discovering new channels: Hobbyist fossil hunting. Who even knew /that/ was a thing?! NOT ME.

This makes that little 13 year old BDA that was OBSESSED with everything Disneyland and theme parks very very very happy. I'm pretty sure I would have just up and died if I found a video like this back then.

Gotcha. Point still stands, I've heard plenty of people talk about TLOU and games like it as 'Shooters', so that whole thing was already swirling around in my brain.

And since we're talking about it I'll throw these in here if you happen to be curious and have some time kicking around. Nolan North and Troy Baker have a youtube channel where among other things they are playing through thier own games (Uncharted and The Last Of Us respectively), so not only do you get to watch through the game you get all of thier behind the scenes stories and occasionally they'll have guests on, like they had Amy Hennig, creator of Uncharted on, and some other cast members and stuff. It's a grand ol' time.

To me, this philosophy seems like a really promising candidate for moving toward ''''''art'''''' from 'shooters.'

Not to double post, but eh, fuckit, it's 2020, nothing matters anyways... it's kind of interesting that you say towards 'art', away from 'shooter', as a classification because I'd be hard pressed to call TLOU a shooter. (I mean, ignoring the entire argument that games can't be/aren't already art, because that is demonstrably and patently bullshit).

But TLOU sits in an interesting place in that regard, because while there is shooting involved in TLOU it's an extremely tiny portion of the game, the rarity of ammo placed throughout the game means that you spend the entire game saving and rationing what ammo you have for the moments that absolutely require it, and most of the time you are exploring, puzzle solving, stealthing or using other impromptu weapons.

IDK, it's just an interesting thing that even in a game that is so story focused, and that tries to ground it's gunplay in some semblance of realism of an apocalyptic scenario, it still gets lumped into the shooter category by a lot of people. Just goes to show that games still have a lot of ground to make up in public perception I guess.

1) Lol fair enough. You just seemed surprised by the idea that they would be selling the game with a cinematic trailer.

2) I didn't get to play it, cause hey lookityou console exclusives, but I watched a few bits and bobs of playthroughs and it is an extremely, oddly, immersive experience when the entire game is one continuous stream with no cuts. And definitely creates a different experience compared to the usual filmic style of weaving together cutscenes and gameplay ala Uncharted or what have you. I think those still definitely have their place obv, not every story works with sticking with one perspective through the entire game (Naughty Dog is a masterclass in using cinematic cut scenes to build these really rich emotional stories that work in tandem with the gameplay), but it's one hell of a feat to pull it off across an entire 20+ hours of game.

TLOU is also a weird series to talk about cinematics vs. gameplay because so much of the design is centered around making the entire game have the vibe of a cinematic. I haven't really been following TLOU2 but I don't think they're going quite to the level of what something like God Of War did where the entire game is one continuous experience weaving in and out of cutscenes organically, but they do try to maintain that mood from what I've seen.

(I may be skipping over something come to think... how aware are you of the entire /thing/ of cinematic game trailers T?)

I thought I had posted these all before, but maybe they got lost in the GoDaddy explosion.

Anyways, I've gotten to do some work with Jay Foreman over the past year or two, and his latest episode of Unfinished London just went online, and I have a couple shots in it.

I did the monster, and the 'video within the video' shot at 3:10.

Other shots I did for Jay:

/\ Hair whitening for the old guys.

/\ Jay throwing the map to hit the horse at 3:45 & added the spittake visuals at 3:27

/\ Built a cleaned up version of the background for the opening shot.

I know exactly 1.5 things.

1) I definitely delivered on the aforepromised swooning.
And .5) I definitely probably didn't make a complete ass of myself.

This was really fun.

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude, I  am so hyped for that. There's a couple that were making the rounds when I was still within driving distance of a theatre that showed them, but wasn't able to make it to. I know the Hiddleston Coriolanus and the Mckellan Lear were both on my radar last season but then *vaguely waves around* life, y'know.

And btw, if they post the Cumberbatch Hamlet, it's absolutely excellent. I got to see that one when it was making the rounds.

I got to see Mark do this whole show live during my 100% Completely Cursed Fringe Trip™ last year, and it was one of the best one man shows I've ever seen. It's kind of unfortunate this video doesn't get far enough into the show for him to start switching between characters, because watching Mark just effortlessly bounce between entirely different personalities at the flip of a switch is an amazing thing to witness.

My anxiety has been kicking my ass about how my anxiety is preventing me from playing with the rest of you lot, and the stuff I'm working on right now isn't super conducive to sharing Fuck yeah, make stuff things... so my brain is just kinda in a permanent fomo -> anxienty -> guilt -> fomo -> etc loop as of late.

So IDK, here's an eyeball I've been working on for Innervate. er somethin.
