This thread is beginning to hit Poe's law for me.
If asked I would have said at least half the ones in here are supposed to be sarcastic... but...
Ugh, you people.

This thread is beginning to hit Poe's law for me.
If asked I would have said at least half the ones in here are supposed to be sarcastic... but...
Ugh, you people.
Well I'm already up to 2 movies I really enjoy mentioned.
I think I'm just gonna avoid this thread from here on out. I'm not sure I can control that little voice in my head that wants to argue, with so much to disagree about going on here.
So the new Riddick movie looks fucking awful. This is some kind of year we've been having, eh?
Speak for your self, Riddick looks fucking awesome.
Hmm. Erotic fiction copyedited from a medical technical perspective...
Yes. I would like to read that.
Make this happen.
Yes.
Well, being isolated in a lifeless expanse of desert that is quite literally unending does give one a mildly different appreciation of the boundless and unending incarnations of life than Dagobah would.
Fucking videogames ruin everything.
Oh yeah, the videogames are what ruined it. Not the movies that actually established the force powers trick maneuvers in the universe.
Otherwise, yes, I agree with absolutely everything in your post.
I got through the entire first season of Falling Skies, but it's only because I couldn't be bothered to change the playlist after that totally wtf religion thing smacks you up side the head for 20 seconds and then disappears. Luckily it never came back up again in the show. But I have no impoulse or drive to continue watching Falling Skies.
And I haven't bothered with Defiance yet, I don't think I even finished the pilot of Terra Nova, and I haven't bothered with Under The Dome and probably never will (I'd rather go watch the the Simpsons movie again).
...I want it, I want it so. I want it, and then I'll put in in a movie, and I'll hug it, and kiss it and feed it and love it...
Not really much I can add, but...yep, I get it now.
Shouldn't there come a certain point where, if you're trying to do more than X, you should just turn it into an original project? Unless you're going the Phase II route, where they're adapting actual Star Trek scripts.
That's always been my feeling.
Although with something like this you run into a catch 22, they're putting in well over the X amount and getting well...this quality. But if this was an original project, no one would take it seriously. The only reason they'll get a pass on the effects and everything is because it's a fan film, and a Star Wars fan film at that.
I'm kinda with Red on this one, another large scale fan film attempt with WAY too much focus on trying to do large scale CG effects that ultimately bring down the quality of the entire thing. Otherwise, it's impressive that they're even attempting to make this and getting anything nearly as good as whats in that trailer...
But I have almost no desire to actually sit down and watch it.
I'm still waiting for a really high quality fan film that doesn't feel the need to try in vain to be super CG and impressive, and can tell a really cool story with interesting characters...like you know... Star Wars did.
(And yeah....I too have a very low tolerance for the bulk of star wars fan films for the reasons listed above)
Wow, that sounds incredible.
“Imagine having a fishbowl on your head with a half a litre of water sticking to your face, ears and nose. Then imagine you can’t take the fishbowl off your head for a minimum of 20 minutes, feel the panic?”
Ed Harris is not impressed.
EDIT: So I was trying to figure out where the heck I should put this, it didn't really fit in dubious musical taste, and it's not random movie talk, so I'm making a new thread. This one's gonna be for just random one-off posts where you would like to share something, but it doesn't really deserve a full thread of it's own. So anyways ooooon wiiith the SHOOOW!!!
(Warning, this post goes very musical theater fan-boyish, so if that's not your game, feel free to skip over)
I want to talk about Matthew Morrison for a minute.
This guy. /\ Right 'ere.
Most people will probably recognize him as the teacher from Glee, which is true, he definitely became more of a household figure (if not name) because of Glee. But the thing I really love about him is he's a pretty solid broadway star and is an INCREDIBLE performer in his own right.
He starred in South Pacific on Broadway...which I mention only as an excuse to post this picture...
Oh yes, you're welcome.
Alright, a video too.
Also Hairspray...
Dat suuit, mmhmmmmmm.
Lately he's obviously been very busy with Glee...which I'm not really going to post anything from... because, even I can't stand Glee anymore... except this. Because, my god people...look at these two.
Unforunately that's the best version I could find online. But seriously, if you at all a fan of NPH and Matthew Morrison, go find a copy of this episode (s1 ep19:Dream On), watch the whole thing for a bunch of NPH being kinda dickish (Which is always great) or you can skip straight to the bar scene (Drunk NPH and MM singing Piano man (Audio only: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aizZ6RUKam0) and then to the final duet. Because it is so freaking awesome watching these 2 broadway dudes go full tilt broadway style at each other.
But anyways, what brought all this on is I redisovered MM's other work a couple weeks back and I'm still just in awe of how awesome this guy is.
One of his music videos:
A Tony performance (You can skip Lea's performance...no seriously you CAN skip it, don't say I didn't warn you.)
And finally vfor this post, last month he released his first album "Where It All Began" which is this amazing congregation of old school broadway jazz and musical numbers thrown in with his own flair. Needless to say, it's one of the smoothest things I've ever listened to.
His cover of Singing In The Rain:
The entire album is incredible.
So anyways, I just wanted to share all that. Not sure why, just felt like it. At the very least you have a new insight into one of my all time man crushes But seriously though, right up there with NPH.
Hope at least someone found this entertaining.
Chat on dear brothers and sisters, chat on!
There is nothing about this I don't love.
The Tron Legacy poster on the main page still says "Down in Front", not sure if that's something you're worried about.
Teague, you are so damn cute in there.
FOUR things. Four things occur to me.
But only one them is TRUUUE!!!!
Do you think you know it? Tune in next week to find out if you're right!!
I think this is a case of imprinting much more on a movie than was actually there.
Someone linked that on facebook a couple days ago and I think we have a new touchstone for "Bringing your own concrete." And bulldozers....cranes... construction crew... city planners, inspection officers, the hot girls that hold the stop and slow signs, and enough population to fill a new city....and so on and so forth.
The Finder
(Moderate spoilers for the first episode)
So I ran across this the other day on netflix and thought I'd give it a try as I'd seen the backdoor pilot they did, and remembered I'd been curious to check out the actual show.
If you don't know what The Finder is, basically an ex-military genius has a gift and an obsession with finding people and things. A pretty simple and fun idea. It's based off some book that I have no idea about, this incarnation first appeared as a backdoor pilot in an episode of Bones, it was fun, light and quirky, the core Finder cast had a really amazing chemistry and it was generally and sincerely fun. So I was looking forward to the actual show (And then forgot about for 2 years).
And I don't know what they hell they did to it, but the actual show is down right verging on horrible. They retain most of the core elements, he's ex military and likes to find things. But removed 1/3 of the trifecta core cast that was in the Bones backdoor pilot, the Saffron Burrows character, So the entire dynamic of that is thrown out of wack. And moreover they kept trying to make it a dark and gritty show about fractured characters and eeeemoooootioooons, and every single time it falls flat. Seriously in the first episode we are introduced to the ex-juvie hippy girl with a vengeful parole officer whose soul mission in life is to send her back to juvie, the idea the Walter (The titular "Finder") is mentally ill, and Walter has some sort of dark and sullied parts of his military history; and it's all presented with the artistic gracefullness of a fully loaded pack mule doing ballet on the freeway. They also introduced the obligatory cop character for every show about a detective, in this case played by Mercedes Masöhn, who... how do I put this, couldn't act her way out a wet paper bag. And I will admit, I've never seen her before, so she might be the victim of bad script or director. I really wish I could find a copy of one part on youtube because it is truly so cartoonishly horrible, basically they are discussing some mob boss Walt wants to meet and the cop character just stops deadpans and mutters the mob bosses name under her breath like some cartoon character, and then when they are on the mob bosses boat (at sea mind you) staring at the mob boss (Played by the delicious Jamie Murray...in a gold one piece swimsuit playing the trombone cartoonishly bad, while surrounded by body guards in florescent orange tracksuits...oh just wait) the trained and seasoned cop stares at her with the kind of look you give someone who just slapped your dog and says (literally word for word here) "We haaate her."
And that's where I pretty much checked out.
The show seems to be constantly trying to straddle the lines of retaining that fun, quirky sensibility and turning it towards this darker more realistic thing, and yet has this weird turrets like tick of throwing in these flat out cartoony moments and it ALL falls flat at every turn. Which really makes me sad. I went into the show, coming off the bones episode, expecting a kind of fun, quirky, lighthearted detective show about a guy who is just really really good at finding anything and everything and so has a kind of unofficial detective business on the side of running his rural florida lakeside bar, kind of a Pushing Daisies crossed with Bones sort of a deal. And what I got was something so completely not that at all.
I do have to credit to a couple things though, Geoff Stults is really good and carries the show as much as he can with pure charm and charisma (But he's carrying a lot of weight), and Michael Clarke Duncan is ...well... the motherfucking Michael Clarke Duncan and that's all there is to it. (It was really cool to see him again, I miss that big guy).
I don't really have anything more to say on it, it just makes me sad.
Honestly we could just post the entirety of all of Ze Franks channels here and nothing wouldn't apply. That man is amazing.
Existenz
Also, BDA, I love "Hey Ya" for reasons really unexplainable here but that took me back to college days and hanging out with friends. Also, the music video is incredibly complicated and hilarious.
Yah, I love the original, and the music video is absolutely something to marvel at. But Obadiah Parker's cover is just like...woah.
It's really cool to actually hear the lyrics like this too, there's a lot more going in there than I gave it credit for at first.
@Withkittens: Someone posted that on my FB a couple days ago, but it hasn't been posted here.
The article I got linked to was actually titled "Dustin Hoffman Breaks Down Trying To Explain Something Every Woman Has Already Unfortunately Experienced." Which is like holy people, would you like a shovel to lay that on thick enough for yah?
But indeed, very powerful little clip.
Tom Hanks as Walt Disney??
That's all I need. Literally. I'm on board. I haven't even watched the trailer, but I'm totally on board.
Ya, can someone explain what the hell torchwood IS? How is it connected to Doctor Who? (without spoilers of course).
The short short version is:
(Spoilered for people who don't want to know anything about Torchwood, some spoilers for a couple things that happen in DW surrounding Jack Harkness)
Due to some unfortunate timey-whimey wibbly wobbly things that happened when he was with the Doctor he has become a fixed point in time. Basically, he can't die, like ever, well, he does, but he always comes back to life (Children of Earth makes some very nice use of this to put all sorts of new horrifying nightmares into my nights)
And so this little ragtag group of genius' hunt down and protect earth from all the little baddies the doctor doesn't have time for...basically.
The actual TV run of the show spans the spectrum of campy and horribly cheesy to downright disturbing and thought provoking, so you kinda have to just stick with it sometimes. However yes, Children of Earth is some of the best TV ever created, it's dark, disturbing, horrifying, and just down right damn good.
Miracle Day on the other hand has it's moments, but on the whole is probably on par with some of the more mediocre episodes on the TV run (Had it been given a somewhat larger budget)
Personally, Jack Harkness is my favourite character to come out of all things Who next to the Doctor himself. Given everything we learn about him, he is just such a fascinating character who, unlike the Doc isn't so tightly bound to strict moral guidelines so he has some pretty serious shit in his past.
