Dogma got around that one pretty cleverly, I might add.
I think it was meant (guy number three more than Clooney) to appeal to everyone's "god it'd be fun to be in space, floating around" instinct, before all hell breaks loose.
But yeah, as a matter of protocol, not so much.
I'm a little surprised and confused by the over-the-top Sandra love this movie is getting.
Either I originally liked her more than everyone else and this movie is just a revelation for folks who didn't like her before, or I missed a couple of movies that are also called Gravity wherein she does something particularly different from what she usually does.
Oooooooh. RDJ maybe not, but Jodie... yes. Three or four Jodies before Sandra.
Wanna build a tunnel going back and forth between Melbourne and Los Angeles and forget those UK people even exist?
We could have code names.
I see my location is "...?" Technically, my parts were shot around Richmond upon Thames and Twickenham, England. But, as they're also part of Greater London, a simple "London" might be the better caption.
The sequence goes:
You get in, speak unintelligible Glaswegian as per the script, locator says "..."
Then Saniss gets in, speaks French, locator says "..."
You speak more, the locator says "...?"
Saniss says he's French, locator says "France"
You speak more, locator says "oh, Glasgow." Which for some reason I thought you were from.
I lolled.
If y'all post names, I'll include them.
Do it. Do itttttt.
I can go whenever, pretty much.
Lydia is super Scottish.
We're three dudes doing this thing in our spare time for free (or negative money, in my case, heh) and real life occasionally gets in the way, so the process has slowed considerably since recording. It's getting there, slowly but surely. Early demos of the "fun" songs have been in my car for a month, and they're already rad, so this thing really is gonna be awesome once it's done.
Guessing a timeframe is an act of completely making dates up, but I'd imagine it'll be done this year. *shrug*
Most likely it was mostly for moments where their face is visible, but far enough away that it's too much of a pain in the ass to get a live plate just for that shot.
The page says we're not on any index pages.
Is that... important?
Aw, you reminded me to relisten to this episode. So good. I love that gag.
ATHANKYOU
Just got back from seeing this a second time with Eddie, who was seeing it for his first time.
3D.
IMAX.
Way too close to the screen.
Holy shit, you guys.
I was a bit bummed when I saw how close we were to the screen. I kept cracking up, it was actually funny, looking up at the screen before the movie started... like, "oh my god these seats are retarded." To give you a sense of it, tilt you head back, way back - it was that tall, and the screen was curved almost around us, and so wide it literally went out farther than the frames of the glasses.
And I was bummed! Like, "man, these seats suck."
Yeah, funny thing about that; just for this movie, it actually worked out better than anything else would have. Because we were so separated from the usual filmwatching experience, the usual angle, and having to look up to see what's up there, and to the side to see what's going on over there, it was so-close-as-makes-no-difference like actually being there with them. Totally immersive.
Super, super cool. It's better the second time, for the usual "well now I won't be surprised by nitpicky things that take me out of the movie" reasons.
Also.
I watched closely during the "Clooney has to detatch" scene to confirm or deny the angular momentum excuse; "the station is spinning, so he's inheriting weight from the spin that justifies the pull on Bullock's tether." I like that excuse a lot, because it's a completely plausible justification for what otherwise seemed to be a massive departure from the ballistic "accuracy" of most of the movie. I was keeping an eye on specific details and general film grammar, really trying to see if that was what was going on and if it's just kind of unclear.
Aaaand, the answer is no way. That isn't happening. There's a couple camera moves that seem to indicate a bit of rotation happening, but all those camera moves are offset by opposing ones that conclusively indicate the "rotation" you could imagine was just the camera moving around. Bastard ain't spinnin,' and we're back to square one on the "aw, damn it, that part doesn't make sense" thing.
Here's the "slim cut," three minutes shorter. Mostly removing air here and there, although I lopped off a couple exchanges that I thought weren't working so great, either for pacing or tone or whatevs. Saniss and Maggot got the brunt of it.
This was made with no score, but then I was fiddling with YouTube's "add music" thingy and didn't realize it would take a while to process that, too, so now I can't turn off the music until it finishes, and I wanna go to bed. So by the time you see this, it might have inappropriately loud music over it. It'll be gone tomorrow.
You can cut my part. While I enjoy being a part of the project, I also am aware that it seems to lag the pacing, though that just might be me.
We definitely need you to get us out of McDonalds, so you're stayin.'
Doc, I don't think it'll upset your sensibilites too much. We shall see. It's entirely possible I'll do the slim cut and go "eh, nevermind."
BDA, I'm not married to the black and white, but right now the project looks a lot more consistent than it would without the black and white. Even with my CC pass bringing everything together, the difference in quality of footage (and quality of chips) really jumps out at you in color. *shrug* I'm fiddlin,' might go either way.
Fireproof - the idea behind doing a slimmer cut is to try to maintain the pacing established at the beginning there. It's doable, I just overwrote the shit out of this thing to try to cram everyone in. Some entire cast members might be lost in the attempt, come to think of it.
So, here's where this is at. The score is temp, but everything else is... kinda done.
I'm calling this the "extended edition," because after I'm done I'm gonna go back through and do a shorter cut, maybe lose some scenes, trim fat, all that. As it stands, I'm fucking psyched that this thing works and is getting finished.
(Quoting so the video is on this page, too.) (If you have your forum settings such that you have as many posts as possible per page, that is.)
Yeah, how do you guys feel about the temp score? I'm working on the "real" one right now, but I have a bad case of temp love for what's in there already.
Indeed you do.
