Thing I'm writing right now passes. I DID IT!
Nice! I was a homeowner once. Then the market took a crap and I remembered I lived in Los Angeles.
Sans Soleil a million times.
We could do Sans Soleil along with another pseudo doc, or just do a pseudo doc rock block.
I'll check it out but most times I shy away from docs about movies. I feel like most people here would check those out first.
I wouldn't mind doing BTM. It's a good example of salvaging a film in The edit.
A few I added on there because I think they're awful. The doc love Fest has to end at some point.
We've got a few episodes planned, plus something special for Comic Con, but as I sit here trying to assemble a list of films to cover, I want you guys to help wittle it down. I'll do the pairing, but tell me, of this list, which ones you'd be interested in hearing about.
DOGTOWN AND Z BOYS
CUTIE AND THE BOXER
MITT
GOOD OLD FREIDA
ENRON: SMARTEST GUYS IN THE ROOM
AFTER PORN ENDS
CROPSEY
MARWENCOL
SONS OF PERDITION
DIRTY WARS
A BAND CALLED DEATH
TABLOID
FAT, SICK, AND NEARLY DEAD
EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP
ROOM 237
MORTIFIED
I'm also planning an all sports episode and an all music doc episode whee we'll cover quite a few in each genre. Anyway, if there's ones you love, or ones you hate, just let me know.
GRRM Just did an interview with Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming The Winds of Winter and dropped some interesting tidbits.
Martin says that the book will deliver more of what we’ve come to expect from A Song of Ice and Fire. “We have more deaths, and we have more betrayals. We have more marriages.”
And we won’t have to wait to get into the action. “I think we’re gonna start out with a big smash with the two enormous battles.” Presumably this means we will be treated to the Battle of Winterfell, and the Battle of Meereen, which had to be left out of A Dance With Dragons because of it’s already massive length and delayed publication date.
Martin also teases that the Dothraki will be coming back “in a big way,” and that “a lot of stuff is happening at The Wall.”
Readers are anticipating the inevitable meeting between Tyrion and Daenerys, and Martin says that while they both have large roles to play, and that they will intersect, it won’t happen until later in the book. He shares some details on what their interaction will be like. “Tyrion has decided that he actually would like to live, for one thing, which he wasn’t entirely sure of during the last book, and he’s now working toward that end—if he can survive the battle that’s breaking out all around him. And Dany has embraced her heritage as a Targaryen and embraced the Targaryen words. So they’re both coming home.”
No word yet on when The Winds of Winter will be coming home with readers, but we can look forward to two other releases from Martin in October.
What I glean from this is that Dany will come to learn what became painfully obvious over the course of the last book: She is meant to conquer and not to rule. I can easily envision a scenario where Dany, with Tyrion acting as her council, meets up with Victarion Greyjoy and takes a Dothraki hoard accross the narrow sea, either aligns or kills her nephew, and beats the ever loving shit out of the second kingdom....until some asshole blows the horn of Jormunggar and shatters the wall, allowing the Night's King and all the Others to severly fuck up the remaining 7 kingdoms. Jon Snow learns his heritage, and either marries Dany or she dies and gives him her Dragons that he and Bran can Weir into and...yeah. That's all I got so far.
Check the glove box.
Fuck it. I'm in.
Yeah, it would be a huge surprise if she wasn't in.
Exactly. How else do you recreate that sensation - not just convey that information - but the feeling she had. Most doc's these days deal purely in the dissemination of info, to their detriment, I believe. SWT has other goals in mind.
Fair enough, I just didn't know if there was a specific thing in SWT that triggered that response.
I'm earnestly trying to remember where in Stories We Tell this:
"but wouldn't it be so cute if this wasn't actually true?"
...actually occurs. If you're referring to the use of home movies as a lie because that's not ACTUALLY her mom, then I don't see how you square using recreations in documentary as all. The film never definitively states that these are home movies, it just lets you assume that. I found the reveal interesting, it's fascinating that it infuriated you so.
I get even MORE interested if I find the protagonist/narrator untrustworthy. I also think upfront they sort of indirectly admit that everyone is going to see this story differently because of their perspective.
This was the documentary I mentioned in the commentary about the making of Bat For Lashes 2nd album, Two Suns. At 2:10, Natasha performs the riverboat song and talks about Pearl as an inspiration to this album. While there's a track on the album called, "Pearl's Dream," the main song that's sorta about Pearl and really, the heart of the whole album, is Siren Song.
So that leaves the intriguing question... what demographic these new SW movies will be pitched to?
If there was EVER the definition of a 4 quadrant franchise, it's Star Wars. Always has, and I assume always will.
If you go to my facebook page you can see Grayson and I in a duet on "I was a teenage anarchist."
The following songs are my 3 year old son Grayson's current favorites:
0. No joke. No producers are in the room, and these are the people's actual houses. I would tell you if it was a 10. The trick is in the casting.
Hey y'all. I've been working on the US version of the popular British series. It's basically MST3K but for bad tv. We follow 8 families/groups of friends as they watch buzz worthy shows from week to week. It's actually a lot of fun, and airs on Bravo Tuesday nights here in the states.. SUPER tight turnaround, as I basically edit these over the course of two days. Here are the segments that I have cut thus far.
rrrrrRRRRRAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH
Like Mike, I m not fully qualified to say Twilight is anti-feminist. I'm quite certain however, that Twilight promotes a version of romantic love that is completely toxic to all involved, and extraordinarily dangerous to both young men and women.
Thanks, man!
I'm responding to Pavlich's last sentence in his post above.
